The conpiracy theories never cease, do they. It's very well funded, probably one of the most well funded branches in medicin. The problem is that it attackes the very immune system which is supposed to deal with illnesses, hence there's no easy way to cure it. Also, viruses mutate, and are very hard to kill and are not classified as "alive". Most cures of this type relies on vaccines, where you get a non-dangerous amount of the disease itself, or a toned down disease that the immune system will recognize as the real disease, and then your immune system will develop antibodies for it. Now if we want a vaccin for aids, we have to give ourself a dose of hiv in the same manner, but since this disease is so dangerous, the risk is still too great you'll end upp getting aids instead of developing antibodies that can handle it. Also, you can only be vaccinated against a disease you don't have, hence why would you want to risk getting aids if you don't have it, and of course it would be useless if you already had aids in the first place. Well, I guess it's a good thing they're about too find a cure, but diseases also have a place in the ecosystem as population regulators. Oh well. Medic fighting! | ||

It would actually be kind of bad to find a cure for all these "born that way" type of diseases from an evolutionary perspective. I mean already we've reached the point where being diabetic is not anything unusual. If they aim to fix all inheritable diseases, then those people's children will get it and so on. In the end, how much medication and treatment would be considered acceptable to receive? It costs money, and you'd also be very restricted as an individual if you relied on lots of medication and checkups just to live. - unless medicin goes so far as to erase those diseases from our genes, like tampering with the feutuses, and that's another hairy topic.
