Pranknet is an organization that prank calls people from miles away and convinces them to do malicious things.
Here is 1 recording of them convincing a lady thousands of miles away to take a drink of urine.
Another thing they like to do is convincing hotel guests to destroy their hotel room.(busting out the windows, throwing the TV out the window, pulling fire alarms, setting sprinkler systems off)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkkODCrjlyg
In this next link, Pranknet convinces hotel guests there's a rapist in there part of the hotel and has them screaming "GO AWAY RAPIST" and banging on the walls, when they are the only ones who think there's a rapist around.
You can find many more if u browse u-tube. 2nd and 3rd link have multiple parts, its important to watch full call to enjoy it. (it builds up to the climax at the end, where they usually curse and threaten because there's no way they can be caught)
In my opinion i think they are brilliant for pulling these things off and they are hilarious to watch(or rather listen to). And i want to know what TL.NET thinks.
(and its all for realz, they have news reports about the one where the woman drinks piss)

They should pay damages and go to jail.
edit: Had to google it.
These kind of low life losers are the ones you love ...
And it seems they are already going to jail - 5 years prison in Texas. Well deserved. World would be better off without those kind of misfits in society.
Should all be locked up.
... and you idolize them, what kind of idiot are you?

i remember prank vents vividly. not those guys specifically, but they many others would advertise in the scrim channels. never laughed so hard in my life.
There is a line between a joke and actual intent to hurt someone else without cause. Its the same line that determines whether someone is sane vs insane.

I'd say it's more the line between normal people and psychopaths rather than insanity ...
This draws a fine line between being funny and being something to be sued over. I laughed, but the "TV Out the Window" is not funny in any way whatsoever.
I think nobody needs this. But, on the other hand, how dumb do you have to be to drink your own urine because someone on the phone tells you to do so ?
Don't understand how this can be found funny. "haha you're so dumb" is great when someone walks into a glass door, but to convince someone who has a few screws loose to do something dumb is like taunting the retarted.

it wasn't her urine... they called multiple people. they convinced a hotel guest that there was a hepititus breakout and they need a urine sample delivered to the front desk and to use the code word "apple cider" then called the front desk and told her a apple cider company was bringing them a free sample to taste their cider.

There was a guy called Balkanboy. Hilarious, but you need to understand at least a little bit of Serbian to have a really good laugh. There's the link anyway http://dhost.info/lazu/balkanboy.htm The thing is, I heard he was in prison now, can anyone confirm ? :D

i caught on to the vent harassment ones. much better imo + Show Spoiler +
I find nothing about that funny. Didn't even chuckle. WTF is wrong with people? How is any of that humorous? It's just cruel.
To everyone going, "oh, how dumb were these people?" come on. We live in a society that says that people have jobs to do and they just do them, and typically we assist in whatever way we can when someone with authority in the matter tells us what to do as soon as we're involved in some way. Yes, it is a bit silly and probably doesn't say too much about their intelligence, but at the same time I don't think anyone realizes that goes both ways. It doesn't say too much at all. They got tricked, it happens.
Hmmm i used to listen in on the Pranknet calls about 4 years ago I've heard it all from hotel fire alarms and sprinklers to window breaking and I'm pretty sure I listened live to all the videos the OP posted. Now however I feel the stuff they do is really immature and I thought they got caught a while back for doing it.
I think that video is wwhen I frist heard about them
sick fucks. That's all I can say. there is nothing funny about getting people to do things that are dangerous for your own amusement or putting them on the defensive for the safety of their families. Just despicable.
I used to listen to these guys live on Beyluxe Messenger, they're pretty fucking funny. My favourite was when they got the guy to smash up the room because they told him the previous occupant had planted webcams everywhere then they told him he was holed up in the room next door and to smash through the wall to get to him: http://www.thesmokinggun.com/documents/internet/elderly-man-falls-victim-motel-6-prank
There are so many possibilities for what you can do, calling people in motel rooms in the middle of the night and stuff, telling them the roof is collapsing, their credit card was declined and they have to pay again, that they have a $200 bill for pay per view TV, that there's a rapist on the loose, that the guy in the next room is about to commit suicide or that airline mechanics have arrived and have special priority for the room so they must leave.
They also do ones where they call people and pretend to be from a radio show ("It's DJ Dick Delaware from 95 Rock FM!") and get them to do all kinds of stupid shit for "prizes", one of them was getting them to eat this massive burger in under 30 seconds on a webcam.
And they call people who are selling things on craigslist and come up with crazy things (eg. woman was selling a horse, he's like "I need a horse for an adult movie I'm making, I will come round tonight and give you $20,000 for it" or "we're gonna use the forklift truck for stealing ATMs but we'll give you a cut of the money"
If anyone wants to listen to these guys live, download Beyluxe Messenger and it's under the Adult section somewhere.
I know it's wrong and all but...I can't stop them from doing it and it is damn funny so I listened to them.
These guys are professional social engineers. I have been listening to them off and on for a while now and they are masters of what they do. Most of the stuff they do is hilarious besides a few badd jokes that cross the line but in the most part they dont hurt anyone or steal anything. The urine shit is stupid and not a good example of these guys. Check out their youtube and watch some of dex's videos where he does the jokes.
what? everything you do is YOUR fault. I have every right to call you and tell you any bullshit I can ever think off and if it makes you do something stupid, well you are just stupid. there is no need to sugarcoat it over and over again: some people are dumb and it is their problem. the idea of suing the prankers is absolutely outrageous.

This might be true for minor things, but there definitely should be limits... what if I call random numbers declaring that I'm holding their wife/husband for ransom and do all sorts of crazy shit? Sooner or later you're gonna get someone to do something terrible, and if they really do have reason to suspect something happened to their spouse (by chance) then they will justifiably believe you... so yea you can't just blame the victim.
The guy that convinced the McDonald's employee to break out all the windows because of a toxin in the fire suppression system was pretty funny but they are still assholes
Yes, the people who fall for this kind of thing are likely not the smartest people in the world. How does that make it right to throw that fact in their faces? Do they deserve the shame of falling for such a childish, petty prank? The people who pull these pranks obviously have no empathy or shame. The kind of emotional torture they put these people through is astounding. If they’re just “stupid” it’s fine? How funny is it if that “stupidity” was more quantifiable, if they would be developmentally disabled?
And how is it all in any way worth it over a laugh? Even if you sum up all the best and most harmless pranks these guys might have managed, how is it in any way worth an emotional scar of shame for even one single person?
Oh wow....I feel so bad for this people, but I can't help but laugh. It's extremely hilarious to me, but I know if I was in this situation, I would feel terrible and want to kill those responsible.
The last one I found quite funny, the other two not so much. I think it's ok to talk people into making fools of themselves, but not drink urine or destroy property etc.
This reminds me of some malicious prank calling story we had to watch about in TOK class. Two store owners were tricked into forcing their recently employed young female cashier into stripping naked and doing humiliating things, later even getting abused. All because the store owners blindly followed the instructions of some random guy on the phone.
People need to be more aware of tricks and question authority a bit more. You never really know if a cop is telling you what to do until you have evidence that it's really the police. Something similar to this has been covered on ABC's "What would you do?"

Sir, I understand why you're so pissed off about this, but sentencing someone to an eternal punishment of incredible pain is infinitely worse than anything they've ever done or could ever even possibly deserve. Nothing a human is capable of doing could ever warrant an eternal punishment, since they can't cause anyone to suffer eternally themselves.
When someone pinches you, you don't respond by fatally stabbing them, do you? Let's not blow things out of proportion, please.
P.S. I'm not saying what they're doing is a minor offense, if you think that you're missing my point.

man this stuff is extremely deviant. it's insane what they have made people do. it's really easy to say that most people (or you typical TLer) wouldn't comply but it's a known fact that perceived authority can make you do stuff you wouldn't typically do.
i find it sickly entertaining, but it is really awful haha
Here's a guy named Ned who's actually funny without hurting people. The humor is on and off, but I found this one to be pretty good. The guy on the other line seems to be getting a kick out of it as well:
Theres plenty of funny pranksters that actually use humour instead of desperate shock tactics to get some attention. Seriously, mashing up hotel rooms as a prank? If that was funny 95% of pissed hooligans would have tv shows.
This is a kind of prank that isn't funny because of what they are trying; its funny because anyone could be stupid enough to do anything like that. Idiocy all around, the guys deserve the punishment, but it's still funny. No point in denying that it is funny - it isn't going to undo the damage, so may as well enjoy the prank ツ

Yeah so next time the fire alarm goes off let's all not submit to authority and go outside, let's all just ask one by one if it's real or not.
People just accept that people don't pull this sort of childish crap so life gets on easier. You can't ask every official you meet on a daily basis to show some ID.
Rather then grind society to a halt by forcing every cop to identify himself 1000 times a day, let's just toss the people that cry wolf for fun into jail for a year.

Or you could use common sense and accept that a cop wouldn't order you to sexually abuse a coworker, and your boss wouldn't make you stand outside your place of business completely naked. I really wonder how many people these guys have to call before they get a bite, it seems like they have a pretty high success rate.

But the simple fact is that they don't ask you to do that.
If your friend calls you and tells you "omg i think im gonna kill myself" and then hangs up, what do you do? You rush over (i would hope). As you get to his house you find the door locked so you kick it in knowing there might be no time to spare. There he is standing in the living room laughing at you, haha he sure got you.
They simply create a scenario where:
1) If i don't trust them i could end up dead, in prison or otherwise harmed 2) If i do trust them i might look silly
If i prank call 911 and tell them i got stabbed, am i being clever when i get them to send the cops or can they simply not take the risk of not believing me?
That's how these pathetic jokes work. You call them and create a scenario where not believing them could have possible fatal outcomes.
But the average TLer vastly overates his own intelligence so it's no surpise everyone here seems to think they are immune to this stuff. Just like how everyone would react like a bhuddist monk if fire broke out in a building they were in.

But um, this isn't some friend calling about suicide, it is your boss telling you to strip naked outdoors. I am fairly certain it's not overrating one's intelligence to say "My boss would never ask me to do that, in fact how would my boss at corporate even know how dangerous chemicals work?". If someone calls my hotel room claiming to be from the front desk and tells me I need to throw my TV out the window or shout "GO AWAY RAPIST" I am going to laugh, hang up, and go back to my life. The examples you gave are not even close to what these guys are doing.
These guys are sociopaths and so are you OP. Although if you're very young it might just be a stage in your development.

How is that even related to what they do? Lol, stay mad. I especially love how you people throw diagnoses around when you can't cope with what you see.
From reading the thread, people's justification for these type of pranks is, "You're dumb and only yourself to blame to fall for this".
Now putting aside micronesia's point of view, somehow abusing and exploiting "dumb" people is okay? Think slowly, think again.
I don't care if a person is 40 years old and make millions. Their stance on stuff like this tells a lot more of the person's maturity and integrity, rather than whats printed on their resume.

Based on your blanket statement, apparently the majority of us posting in this thread are probably idiots too. Oh, the irony.
Would I ever do that to someone? No. Should other people do this? No. Should it have been done in the first place? No.
But it did happen, and it was hilarious.
I can understand how some people may not find this funny, but it is absolutely absurd to say that anyone who can find humor in it somehow has mental issues.

It's got everything to do with what they do? That's typical behaviour. They lack all compassion. And obviously so do you if you find it funny to see peoples lives ruined. Bet you laughed your ass off at 9/11. There was a newspaper article linker earlier in the thread about the two of them.
Personally, I find malicious calling to have been funny 8 years ago. Now its rather infantile and pretty much idiotic. Nobody can take a prank caller seriously anymore, at least I hope.
Edit: on second thought, and with an artificially boosted humor, some of those do prove to be quite humorous

I don't enjoy pranks that gets the victim into trouble while the prankster and his audience are laughing like this is some good humor they've created. OP, you thought most people like this kind of humor? You're wrong.
For the hotel ones it's nobodies fault except the receptionist.
I don't know any hotel receptionists that would actually allow this to happen.
You can't just call a random hotel and ask for a room number.
You need a last name and room number to prevent exactly what happened in these videos.
Regardless these are fucking hilarious.

I perused the thread to see if anyone has been as hard on the OP as I think he deserves, and it doesn't look like it. The behavior of the assholes making these prank calls has been condemned, but not the OP who posted it up with a positive review, so, let me just say..
Are you fucking serious? How fucking old you? Do you have any fucking concept of morality or personal responsibility? Normally I don't get personal on TL but this is fucking bullshit. Not only is this shit dangerous and wrong, it's illegal, and some of the degenerate pieces of shit who make these calls have gone to jail. Only a piece of shit loser who has never experienced responsibility and real life would think this shit is funny or ok.
I don't find this funny, but I can't say I feel sorry for the idiots who fell for this.
If you're gonna just blindly follow someone's instructions, even when they sound stupid as hell, then you kinda deserve what's coming to you. I mean think about it, would it work if he asked them to just give a random person $100? No. Because when there's money involved, people's scam alert comes up instantly, but drink from a random recipient? SURE, WHY NOT?! Throw a TV out a window? SURE, WHY NOT?!
Well, whoever fell for this is an idiot, they should be glad they weren't scammed out of their life savings, not that there'd be much to scam them out of, but come on, why do we pity stupid people?

If you're gonna just blindly follow someone's instructions, even when they sound stupid as hell, then you kinda deserve what's coming to you. They might not have been scammed out of their life savings but they certainly did pay for destroying the TV. You think you can trash a hotel room and not pay damages? I do feel sorry for them. It's bullying pure and simple. Just because some people might not be as smart doesn't give others the right to abuse them for our amusement any more than small or physically weak people deserve to get abused by the meat head who thinks it's funny to stick some small kids head in the toilet. It's fucking disgusting. Just because I have something in some area of my life that gives me an advantage over you doesn't give me the right to embarrass and abuse you. Maybe they are idiots. So fucking what. Let me ask you a question? Have you ever been taken advantage of. Guess what? By your own fucking logic...you fucking deserved it. You should have been smarter, faster, bigger, stronger, richer, better looking, or whatever and it wouldn't have happened would it?

Anyway, these people get caught eventually. Maybe not for the prank calls themselves, but when you have no empathy or any intuitive sense of what's socially aceptable and what isn't you're bound to slip up sometime.
man stfu. you dont know me. im 21 y/o and i stumbled acrossed this 2 days ago. i found it so hilarious i couldnt stop laughing at these retared people. i wanted to share it with the community i love. i have a full time job that pays 18$ per hour. before u talk about socially acceptable u should do some research on who ur talking about. for the rest of people who loved it or hated it, thanks for ur comments and discussion
Man you got mad..and you bring up an $18/hr job...honestly that's just trying to be cool..no one gives a fuck what you make on a gaming website unless we asked if you were working for ESPORTS so get that trash out of here, no one gives a fuck where you work in this thread or what you make. This topic is stupid, it's not funny, these guys are assholes and you seem to be one too so I can see why YOU find this funny, not the clear 99% of this community.
Guys I heard of this super prank call concept! You call old / stupid people and try to sell them something. And guess what some are so fucking stupid and fall for it!!!! OLOLOL! And you can even prank old people by telling them you're their niece / nephew and get them to wire you money! OLOL FUCKING STUPID OLD PEOPLE!!!!

Confirmed sociopath.
Confirmed indeed when he's truly 21 and not bluffing. (LOL I tell people on the internet I'm 21 and make 18$ per hour! Even though I'm a loser and unemployed, nice prank, right? They even believe me!) killamane, why dont you prove to us that you're 21 & make 18$ / hour?
So from what i understand from the people defending the bad stuff "because their stupid its their fault" logic, dose that mean the ones im about to move close to when i go overseas im allowed to smash them by the same logic?
I'm a bigger stronger person most likely and they were stupid enough to post such things (e.g trolls) to anger such a person im allowed to smash you right? because you were rather stupid in saying such things when people can reach you right?
How do people come up with such logic wtf people ....... didn't your parents teach you anything or did you just find right and wrong hard to understand.
Having a laugh is ok i guess altho most wouldn't agree with your sense of humour but well its your sense of humour isn't it, but if you don't think its wrong to be like that to other people (namely the really bad pranks) your not really worth talking to you about it because theirs something wrong with you and you don't care about it.

Look, I know what you're saying, but don't get me wrong, I don't think that the prankers have no fault. I do think it's stupid and should be illegal. All I said was that if you're THAT stupid to do whatever someone at a telephone tells you, then you have to bear the consequences. I mean, how else would they learn?
Really, you can't compare this to physical violence, as many of you are. This is COMMON SENSE. Do you know why they call it that? Because it should be common.
And yeah, to answer your question, I have been taken advantage of, mostly when I was really young, now, not so much. And why not? Because I've learned my fking lessons, that's why. Even now, people would only take advantage of me if I allowed them to. Who is stopping you from becoming faster/bigger/stronger? Nobody. Smarter, that's really hard to become, I'll give you that, but hey, it doesn't take a genius to NOT drink piss. Sorry. I still don't feel bad for them.
But, again, that doesn't mean that it shouldn't be illegal, or that the ones who did it are not disgusting, it's just that I disagree to protecting stupid people. You feel sorry about that, yet let politicians steal and mop the floor with entire countries, who's the dumbass in that scenario? (i'm mostly ranting about the 'occupy' movement now, so i'll just stop) I guess it's natural selection in the end. The guys who wondered what was moving the bushes lived longer than the ones that assumed it was the wind.
I actually liked that one comedy central show Crank Yankers(?) but somehow these didn't amuse me as much. I think it's because the ones on the show had much more interesting conversations and dialogue than just trying to get some guy to drink pee or whatever (which you can't even see).

That's a little unfair. It's easy to see how this could be funny, even if the premise is *sociopathy*.
i found the prank calls in the OP to be pretty funny. don't let all these people on their moral high horses tear you down OP, they are in no place to condemn anything.

Are you actually insinuating that someone being stupid/guillible/innocent deserves PUNISHMENT!? That for being less fortunate, they should be EXPLOITED!? People like you are what's wrong in this world. And before you say "but it would happen to them anyways!", yeah it would. Because other people like you use the same fallatic logic. Because others think that lesser mental ability justifies cruelty and that it would happen to them anyways, because others use the same logic as the one before. No matter how stupid someone is, no matter how guillible they are, no matter how retarded they are, they don't deserve to be treated like they are the piss of society.

Actually we are. Cause we are not sociopaths, we don't do that kind of shit to our fellow citizens, and we have the moral high ground as what they are doing is illegal, immoral, dangerous, and dumb as hell.
Speaks for itself that it's child rapists and violent retards doing this shit. No empathy whasofuckingever.

Common sense is that disgusting shit that only sociopaths and psychopaths would find funny, like this, isn't funny. So you seem to be lacking in common sense. It's not okay to convince a stupid person to hurt themself or do stupid shit just because they are stupid. Hurting others for cheap fun is something only people with no empathy think is okay.
Why the fuck would people waste their social engineering talents on innocent people, when there are plenty of people in this world who would deserve trouble coming to them?
The woman wasn't asked to drink piss... She was asked to drink "apple cider". If I was in her shoes, I definitely WILL NOT drink some strange liquid presented to me by a strange, frightened man and asked to drink it by a voice on a phone.
There were stories in SEA (especially Thailand and northern Malaysia) where witchdoctors tricked people to consume certain substances which will put you in a trance, and then they harvest your organs. Or just plain fuck you if you are a woman, and the victim can then wake up claiming they have been probed by spine crawlers.
She better thank her lucky stars that its just piss, and lived to tell the tale.
Oh, one more thing, I don't find this prank funny at all. Fucking sociopaths.
Ya'll need to listen to Jim Florentine. He does (did) a series called Terrorizing Telemarketers where we receives call from telemarketers and just gets then on tilt. Its amazing.
This call was more malicious than funny but it was still funny. "It tastes horrible"

Is he the guy that pretended to be a cop and said that the resident of the house had been murdered and started asking the telemarketer all kinds of weird questions? Because that was pretty funny.
I heard the TV thrown out of window live, There was a really crappy messanger-based program that allows a single person with a mic, we had like 70-150 people give suggestions in chat as someone would try their best on each call.
Man, people. I remember admins got mad at the guy, there was a rule in place for no expensive collateral damage during calls, maybe small coffee pots but they wont do tv's out the window again.

Actually, the most stupid think I have watched in this thread is the news excerpt in the OP. OK, making someone destroy other people's property by phone is not exactly a very nice thnik to do. But making someone drink urine? That is just hillariously funny! Urine is actually a quite safe think to drink, so (baring some quite unexpected medical conditions, that may have occured for the recipient unbeknowst to her, I admit) they did not actually hurt anyone. Yet the news make it into the worst think ever and even police is wasting its time on it. Look at how everyone in the news is repeating how disgusting, gross, whatever it is just to make a story out of it, to convince people how big of a deal it is when actually it does not matter at all.
It's actually making me sad. One of the worst thing about today's society is how increasingly seriously is the smallest shit taken. Everyone must be protected from even the slightest unease, from the day they are born. No wonder that people are getting dumber and dumber with every generation as they have no challenges in life to stimulate their brain developement.
PS: There are even people drinkhing their own urine on purpose because they believe that it's healthy. Maybe they helped her to get a better skin
