Oh, and for advice; just sleep. I took the PSAT (Practice SAT) and sleep helped a lot.

You want to go in there feeling relaxed and if you are over preparing for the test by changing your regular routine, you are going to be thinking about it too much before it actually happens. The last thing to remember is that you can take it multiple times. If you do poorly on the first one, pay for a course that helps improve your score and then take it again.

Anyways, just relax and do whatever you do, stress will really kill your score. If you really want to do well, just take the test like it is, and if you do badly, then practice for the next few months and take it again. You can't cram for these tests.

Just wondering if anyone had any tips on the test, particularly, the verbal + reading comp section. btw for people who dont know, this test is an admissions for high school. Maybe some people took it before when they were in middle school? There's really nothing you can do to prepare at this point...I had to take an entrance exam for high school as well... The verbal is a lot of your vocabulary, so either you have an expansive one or you don't... reading comprehension pretty much says it all. Just relax, and take your time.... don't stress if you don't know a word... guess and move on

unless of course you havent studied if you have, sleep will prevent silly mistakes i remember the time i took my SAT II biology, I procrastinated. I don't usually study, and when I do, I dont usually study for more than an hour or two. I studied 12 hours straight before the test from 2:30PM to 2:30AM, and woke up alittle before 8AM(??) for the test. Luckily, I chose the to take the test at my shitty zoned school so I wouldnt have to wake up extra early for a commute. I probably made a couple silly mistakes, but I would have done terrible without the study marathon. Got a 760

I hope you've taken some practice SSAT's. Other than that there is nothing you could've done. Get some sleep and read the questions carefully. I go to HCHS and since its > Stuy I just took it to see what I'd get. I didn't study at all for it, but most people seem to need to... anyway good luck. (Yes I did get into Stuy)

![]() The vocab needs to be built up over a long period of time by either reading, or by studying roots of words, and well... math, I don't know how you study for that, other than just work lots of problems. The math on these standardized tests are so easy that it should be a crime to miss more than 1 or 2 questions...

So being a minority is more important than being smart. Four times as important. University of Michigan scrapped their whole admissions system because courts deemed it non sensical or something to that effect. I remember a site with their entrance "calculator." It's pretty funny if you think about it.

For big tests just study like crazy the day before, and the morning before. When you get the test all the nervousness, even if you're going to do bad, disappears, if you remember this you get less nervous before. I like to do some repetitive motion before/during a test though to relax. Gum, bobbing my head, or tapping my foot works nicely. Plus it's really annoying and detrimential to everyone elses concentration, gogoogo curve fighting!

bring bread and water or something else small like crackers with you when you are taking the test if, for example, you eat breakfast at 9 am and the test is at 10 am you will be sleepy and it'll be harder to focus because of digestion process going on in your stomach

So some times the curve may be higher, while some times lower? ![]()
