I am a history major interested in the history of Jazz, and I'm currently writing my senior thesis on Dave Brubeck's 1958 Jazz Ambassador Tour to the Middle East. Oh, and here's my music input: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjpjGSr38d4 The jazz piano professor at my old school knows Brubeck very well and has released albums of his work (mostly his classical pieces actually). Maybe I can get in touch with him for you and get you some extra material (if you want).

He is incredible, really widens the harmonic spectrum of modern Jazz. Way too few people know about him. Another great guitarist is Kurt Rosenwinkel (with quite some Jazz supergroup): + Show Spoiler +

Here's a couple I've been listening to lately: Royal Crown Revue + Show Spoiler + Soil & Pimp Sessions + Show Spoiler + I'd like it if people posted up more contemporary music. Duke Ellington was a genius but I can't go see his show nowadays =P But here's some old favorites anyway + Show Spoiler [Louis Prima, Ahmad Jamal, Horace Silver] +

She was discovered by Chick Corea, and has mentored with Ahmad Jamal and played on a couple Stanley Clarke albums. My favorite piece by her is Place to Be: + Show Spoiler + It's probably the only piece of music that has ever moved me to tears by the music itself.

Personally I would call it "jazz-inspired chillout music" or something like that, reflecting that it isn't really in the jazz tradition (backing rhythm track, heh) but definitely has aspects of it.
