They are hoping for the installation of a fundamental islamic republic in Libya.

Gaddafi said someting like joining or asking help from organization like Al Qaida if outside world would attack/help Libya. Even media reported about this, at least where i live. Chill out.

Oh, I agree, motives are wrong, but at least they're doing something. It's a matter of alternatives: help the rebels or not? Not helping would've been a slaughter in Bhenghazi and western cities, and strong, violent oppression afterwards. Helping could minimize casualties if the conflict doesn't last too long.

I think I misinterpreted the "indirectly" part as "supplying weapons and supplies" rather than "hoping the revolution turns out alright", and thought Pika was declaring some conspiracy theory or someting. Apologies. And dear god, Yahoo's comments could actually be worse than Youtube's.

I think the idea that western powers are capable of installing a puppet regime to steal resources has been largely discredited by the Iraq experience. No American wants anything to do with Libya other than to stop its crazy leader from shooting people that protest his rule.

Colonel Bob Stewart, the former United Nations commander in Bosnia, tells the BBC that regime change may be needed to observe resolution 1973. "The best defence for the people of Libya is for Gaddafi to go," he adds. Col Gadaffi speaks publicly for the first time since the coalition attacks started. He says the Mediterranean has become a "ground of war" and calls for Libyans to arm for "revolution".

One wonders if Gadaffi will find his "Libyans" in the same place he found the mercenaries he used to shoot his own people.
