potassium iodide =/= potassium cyanide
Potassium iodide protects from radiation poisoning.
' In 1982, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved potassium iodide to protect thyroid glands from radioactive iodine involving accidents or fission emergencies. In an accidental event or attack on a nuclear power plant, or in nuclear bomb fallout, volatile fission product radionuclides may be released. Of these products, 131I is one of the most common and is particularly dangerous to the thyroid gland because it may lead to thyroid cancer. By saturating the body with a source of stable iodide prior to exposure, inhaled or ingested 131I tends to be excreted, which prevents radioiodine uptake by the thyroid. The protective effect of KI lasts approximately 24 hours. For optimal prophylaxis, KI must be dosed daily until a risk of significant exposure to radioiodine by either inhalation or ingestion no longer exists.'

Anyone citing that comment as dumb...is dumb.

Hahaha, I have no fucking idea what the story is behind this, but the headline and accompanying picture made me laugh my ass off (arguably SFW if your co-workers are able to take a joke):

Obviously you don't understand the situation. The possible exposure had already happened. Iodine consumption doesn't help in that situation, only where continued exposure is anticipated. Perhaps do more reading before calling someone dumb.

You even felt the need to PM me and harass me calling me dumb as a childish response AFTER making this post in the SFW thread. And no, you can consume potassium iodide after exposure to radiation to help the situation. Read my post better. Iodide consumption does not just help as a precaution alone, it helps in the treatment after the radiation has set in. Again, please quit PMing me.

There's a banner at the top of this thread saying "No arguing about anything". I'm asking both of you to stop, please. Before the mods have to step in. We can settle this like gentlemen in PMs.
