your vision can't work in a periodic pattern like this one. I played with the image a little, and it is totally impossible to count the number of lines. This totally fucked up my brain  . I was barely able to read for 10 or 20 seconds. At a distance you see it as a whole, and notice very slight coherent differences in the lines...
long and fast zooms (mandelbrot vids anyone?) are also great to mess up your vision.

If I take off my glasses I can see him from the same position. I think maybe he's near-sighted.
