you are probably wasting your time, my gut feeling says that the only thing 99 % of tl.net members read are dirty magazines and the marker on their underwear saying what day it is so they remember to change

Maybe this should be in CJH's thread about Interesting Facts, but did you know the original title of "War and Peace" was "War, What is it Good for?" It was his mistress that convinced him to change the title.

I bought this once for $2 because I felt that, even though I was never ever going to even begin reading it, it was worth it just for the amount of paper I was getting. I don't think I'd read it even if I was Russian.

The quality of Russian novels is inversely proportional to their weight; Dostoevsky > Tolstoy [UM >>> War and Peace] [/]

Juggling 30 characters with 5 different aliases each in your head gets tedious. And I don't think I'd be able to manage it without ripping my book into bits. What's it about anyway?

According to my parents, both Tolstoy and Dostoevsky are vastly overrated (particularly the latter). This isn't going to prevent me from trying them though, as soon as I get some of the more pertinent and urgent readings out of the way .

These aren't my words. Neither Tolstoy nor Dostoevsky have any inkling of a sense of humor; both lived lifestyles contradictory to what they preach in their literature. Dostoevsky is a notorious misanthrope and his works are not particularly enjoyable to read.

Havent read it yet, jk

Good book, Tolstoy > Dostoyevsky. I dont really know how you can say they are overrated as authors, as both have a pretty good library of books but both are only known for one. Perhaps those two books are overrated, as they are probably 2 of the most recognizable names in classic literature, but definitely as authors they are underrated.

Just finished reading The Idiot a couple months ago, definitely pick it up if you enjoy C&P.

Well I didn't say they were overrated. Both my parents have read dozens of their works, so their opinions aren't exactly uninformed. Like I said, I plan to read them for curiosity's sake if nothing else and maybe I'll like it.

Whats C&P? Surprising Tolstoy has a library after seeing the length of Anna Karenina and War and Peace, how many did he write?
