Prove that for any prime number p >= 5, there is an integer n such as
p*p - 24n - 1 = 0
This does not require any math beyond high school level.

Thread Rules 1. This is not a "do my homework for me" thread. If you have specific questions, ask, but don't post an assignment or homework problem and expect an exact solution. 2. No recruiting for your cockamamie projects (you won't replace facebook with 3 dudes you found on the internet and $20) 3. If you can't articulate why a language is bad, don't start slinging shit about it. Just remember that nothing is worse than making CSS IE6 compatible. 4. Use [code] tags to format code blocks.

+ Show Spoiler + By eliminating p divisible by 2 or 3 then we can say for some integer a > 0 that p = 6a + 1 or p = 6a + 5. Then show that 24 | (p.p - 1). 1st case: (6a + 1)(6a + 1) - 1 36a.a + 12a + 1 - 1 12a(3a + 1) If a is even then 24 | 12a If a is odd then 3a + 1 is even and 24 | 12(3a + 1) 2nd case: (6a + 5)(6a + 5) - 1 36a.a + 60a + 25 - 1 12a(3a + 5) + 24 Same argument as above. For p = 5 (not covered in these examples) observe that with n = 1 gives p.p - 24 - 1 = 0.

Proving something that looks uncertain is cool but proving something that we know it's true for years is a weird mental process. Imo they should teach it by proving things which really need proving, like things not obvious to be true or false at the first look. I fail to understand the problem. Just like you learn coding by programming easy stuff which has already been done thousands of times and probably already exists as a function/library, you learn to do proofs by proving easy stuff. If you're having a hard time writing down a proof for some easy stuff you're probably not ready to prove hard stuff?

I'm building a static page that takes 4.5 seconds to load. All it does is show some text and images and utilize the Angular router. ~25kb of images but vendor.bundle.js is a whopping 2.7mb. I remember when I was learning web development my teacher told me that if a page is > 1mb and it isn't a web application you're doing something wrong. Angular really bothers me on a deep level but I don't feel like I'm a good enough programmer to articulate why its bad. edit: I swear that as soon as I post something somewhere online I find the solution to my problem immediately. Here I am bitching about wasted kilobytes and I'm sending packets to a starcraft forum for no reason. https://angular.io/docs/ts/latest/guide/router.html they renamed it from hashbang to hashlocation..................
