Download

I know many of us here at TL use firefox so I thought I'd share this news

+ Show Spoiler [new features] +
Tabs are now on top by default on Windows only - OSX and Linux will be changing when the theme has been modified to support the change.

On Windows Vista and Windows 7 the menu bar has been replaced with the Firefox button.

You can search for and switch to already open tabs in the Smart Location Bar

New Addons Manager and extension management API (UI will be changed before final release)

Significant API improvements are available for JS-ctypes, a foreign function interface for extensions.

The stop and reload buttons have been merged into a single button on Windows, Mac and Linux.

The Bookmarks Toolbar has been replaced with a Bookmarks Button by default (you can switch it back if you'd like).

Crash protection for Windows, Linux, and Mac when there is a crash in the Adobe Flash, Apple Quicktime or Microsoft Silverlight plugins.

CSS Transitions are partially supported.

Full WebGL support is included but disabled by default at this time.

Core Animation rendering model for plugins on Mac OS X. Plugins which also support this rendering model can now draw faster and more efficiently.

Native support for the HD HTML5 WebM video format.

An experimental Direct2D rendering backend is available on Windows, turned off by default.

Web developers can use Websockets for a low complexity, low latency, bidirectional communications API.

Web developers can update the URL field without reloading the page using HTML History APIs.

More responsive page rendering using lazy frame construction.

Link history lookup is done asynchronously to provide better responsiveness during pageload.

CSS :visited selectors have been changed to block websites from being able to check a user's browsing history.

New HTML5 parser.

Support for more HTML5 form controls.

To me it feels snappier (though this is by no means a scientific observation)

Although I have not tried all of my add-ons yet, most work flawlessly. Unfortunately most of these add-ons are disabled by default, but can be forced to install by downloading the Add-On Compatability Reporter which obviously lets you report compatibility to the Add-On developers.

Discuss!

This was added (for Windows at least) in 3.6.4. It is nice

I hear this about every update for every browser and it's never true D:

I like it better than Chrome, yes. Firefox with the Ad Block Plus add-on, which stops adds from loading rather than just hiding them, makes pages load faster than chrome.

Obviously is disable Ad Block on sites I want to support, like TL.

Ahh, saw the words 'Beta' and 'Released' in the nav bar out of the corner of my eye. Almost shat myself.

FF4 looks nice though!

I don't know, I've just switched to Chrome a few days ago, due to Firefox being a bitch.

Interesting. I've gotten too used to Opera and Chrome, and felt that Firefox was behind the times. Hopefully that changes.

I have been waiting for this for like ever! I'm a bit afraid to try out a beta version of it, I'll wait until the full version. I'm more than satisfied with FF3

Messing around with it. I like it. Looks pretty nice and very easy to use (because I fail with all things related to computers). I'm enjoying it so far. ABP seems to be working. Atleast I haven't noticed anything not working yet.

Don't think this is enough to make me switch back from Chrome.

I got tired of the clunkiness of Firefox long ago (I don't care about adbox plus, and the bazillion addons. Ads don't bother me at all and I prefer absolutely speed > clunky addons), and once I switched to Chrome I haven't looked back.

Been using it for a couple of hours, and there is promise. I like the chrome-y feel to it and it still has most of my add-ons. I'm liking its integration with Windows 7 also, with the tabs and all.

I would love to use chrome, but the ad blocking addons that I have used are not nearly as good as adblock plus. Which is a must for me.

Damn this is sexy. I switched to Chrome like 2 months ago because I was fed up with FF, but this might convince me to switch back; providing most of my add-ons become compatible with FF4 soon after it's fully released.
