How is it pathetic? The man died over playing too much starcraft. If someone i knew died from playing starcraft I might feel a little uneasy around the game as well. EDIT: Didn't read the article before making a comment.

That quote was from the article in which a baby died because its parents were playing some other game..in that case..it is really really pathetic.

And the SC player, damn. I've played for over 10 hours once and I had absolutely no idea what was going on by the end of it. I couldn't play cat and mouse, never mind a competitive 1;1 And I had food/drink breaks.

also maybe most people are completely ignoring the article details/comments or you truly just don't give a damn: - parents raise a virtual baby in their MMORPG instead of caring for their real baby - parents returned home after a 12-hour gaming session to find their 3-month old baby dead from dehydration - parents lie to the police about finding the baby dead after they 'woke up from sleep' - all this occured 5 months ago, and the parents were only arrested 2 days ago as they went into hiding right after the child's funeral - they say "due to our guilt we haven't been to a PC cafe in these last 5 months" when they are caught WTF

Here's what I think - A real baby you would care for due to more abstract human-nature feelings - love, parental instinct, etc. The in-game baby, on the other hand, was specifically designed to deliver an experience to grasp the user and make them addicted through tiny rewards (assuming that it's something like WoW). If they did something to care for the virtual baby, they would get some kind of positive feedback like "YAY +50 EXP" wheras a real-life baby dosen't really seem any different before or after you give them a bottle of formula. So, it could just be that the parents are stupid and didn't realize what they had to do to take care of a child without getting positive feedback. Or, it could be that the game was so well-designed and their sense of human emotion was so stifled that the desire for advancement in-game outweighed instinctual attachment to their daughter. This kind of makes me think of this games conference presentation I watched earlier today. While the Korea incident is an instance of game design possibly hurting people (though obviously the real blame lies with the parents), that presentation tried to list ways game design could help people become better. Maybe if there was a more quantifiable measurement of their real life child's growth they would have taken better care of her. Experience points for changing the diaper, achievements on their birthdays, etc... I realize how ridiculous and pathetic that sounds, but in this specific instance it would have probably made them better parents. A 28-year-old man dropped dead recently after playing his favorite game Starcraft for 50 hours non-stop without eating or drinking. wasn't that like 8 years ago? or is this a common occurrence?

The point is though, after that one, I felt DEAD. Like, after the last match, I fell asleep on the floor and woke up like 5-6pm, thankfully my friends cleaned up the mess (beer, pizza, you know, the usual stuff) and didn't rob my place, lol. Koreans can game for long time, no doubt.

+ Show Spoiler + TRAINING DOLLS In rural southern Illinois a toy company began selling "realistic" baby dolls to expectant mothers. But apparently after the mother had her child the toy baby would start crying. Eventually the "rocking motion" advertised to calm it down wouldn't work, and you couldn't get it to stop without shaking it. Eventually when it started crying the parent would have to beat it, and the beatings and thrashings would have to get harder and harder to get it to be quiet. The only thing that seemed to shut the baby doll up permanently was the bash its head against the wall to destroy whatever mechanism triggered the crying. On more than one occasion though, neighbors called the authorities to report child abuse, and when the police arrived they found the the bloody remains of infants smeared across the walls and the floor. In most cases the mother couldn't understand why the police were there, she just "got rid of the stupid doll" as she rocked a baby-shaped bundle in her arms.

Online games are massively popular in South Korea. A 28-year-old man dropped dead recently after playing his favorite game Starcraft for 50 hours non-stop without eating or drinking. shocking, but the journalist sucks. why would a multi-paragraph story about the death of the baby with a random entrance into a new story. its like a badly written sat question, on "pick which sentence does not fit in the story."

I sort of had this experience when I fainted after playing Dynasty Warriors 3 on the PS2 for the whole day, my thumbs were numb and I didnt eat. I remember those days how fun PS2 was, too bad it died pretty fast(Something with the fuse) after we sorta left it on 24/7.
