12 million

How do you figure that?

With the one-child per family policy, this assumes about 12 million families aborted the fetus after discovering it was a girl so they can get a boy the next time around. So assuming 50/50 chance at a boy, without abortion, it would be 12 million boys and 12 millions girls, but those 12 million girls were aborted to get 12 million additional boys = 24 million more men.

Though, this doesn't take into account the fact that those 12 million families that got girls could get girls again on the second, third, and so on, attempt. So it's probably a lot more than just 12 million.

Maybe I'm doing the math wrong, but:

If n child-bearing families decide to abort until they get a boy, there will be ~n female abortions (basic probability). Now for a population p, you'll have b = (p - n)/2 + n boys and g = p - b girls, resulting in a boy-girl skew of b - g = n.

Therefore, for a boy-girl skew of 24 million, you would need 24 million families deciding to abort until they get a boy, which would result in 24 million female abortions/infanticides/overseas adoptions/whatever.

Ignoring the fact that in western countries without infanticide there are more women than men.

And yes, you're doing the maths wrong. To get 24 million more men than women you need 12 million births of boys rather than girls. So first you take 12 million abortions/infanticides and that gives you on average 6 million boys. Then you take 6 million more abortions/infanticides for the ones who got girls on their second attempt. That in turn gives you 3 million boys. Then you have 3 million more abortions/infanticides of girls to get rid of them and clear the way for the next attempt of which 1.5 million are boys. And that still leaves 1.5 million girls who need to be killed like their elder 3 sisters. And we've already had 21 million infanticides to get to this point.

WoW wasn't out yet during TMNJ. China has no problem with single lonely guys. It just means 12 million more female night elf rogues.

Haha, that's funny because WoW has been banned in China for like 2 years now.

It is not.

Yes...your infinite sum converges on 24 million abortions/infanticides which was my answer. What's the problem?

Agree. The fact that it has life or not is still debatable, yet it's called a fetus no matter what .

That's because girl babies die less often statistically.

which in turn means that once you made it through the first year as a male baby, your life expectancy isn't that much shorter than that of your sister anymore

That has been a long tradition in China among some of the ethnic tribes. It's been a common practice for brothers to share one wife in many of the tribes in Sichuan and Yunnan province. Forget their names and too tired to look it up right now :\

Think it's polyamory when it's a woman with several men tho rite? Or does polygamy go both ways?

Doesn't work so well with multiple men to one woman. It's hard enough to get sex sometimes when it's one to one

polygamy is the general form of having more than one spouse
polygyny = man with >1 wife
polyandry = woman with >1 husband

polyamory means having more than one intimate relationship at the same time; in facebook terms, 'open relationship' kind of thing
