Personally I think the best tunes came from Sega Master System II games. e.g. Sagaia Quartet Wonder Boy III - The Dragon's Trap Alex Kidd in Shinobi World Lucky Dime Caper Master of Darkness...

It's a shame that thread died... if you dig through there you might find some cool 8-bit stuff I love the Pokemon soundtrack, and also the Phoenix Wright soundtracks. It's awesome stuff. Especially these tracks: + Show Spoiler + http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=biqub2kWeFs Some awesome song from some old SNES game I didn't play: + Show Spoiler + And a "netlabel" that releases a lot of electronic music, not all chiptune: http://www.platonistmusic.com/reunion/music5.html#001 They give free mp3 downloads of the songs. Check out the stuff by Platonist. Treasure Hunting is my favorite track by him, but I can't find it on youtube, so just download it. and holy cow Anamanaguchi is awesome, thanks for posting them

(mike was certainly very talented and all, but I don't think he wrote this) this soundtrack has a great blend of metal (featuring mindblowing distortion guitar emulation) and funk ^ these soundtracks really show the potential of fm synth and genesis music. when it's done right, it's damn good also amazing - unkai, mother, burning, cosmos, and most of the st really... there are so many wild and interesting things going on in the rhythm (and string) parts... the 1st m.s. soundtrack is hard to beat On September 20 2009 11:50 PobTheCad wrote: c64 music>nes music not sure if you know, but this is basically a note for note (partial) cover of a theme in the original transformers animated movie. The song is incredible though

i just had to add this. This song was made in like 78 or 79, before videogames were advanced enough to have proper music i think You can definetely tell that video game composers took quite a lot of influence from these guys ![]()
