After hearing a rumor that WCG only planned to announce 2 more Xbox titles and 1 more PC title, I followed up to figure out the source of the information. Turns out the source is fairly credible as it has been listed on the US WCG site. Specifically, the amount being 8 games is mentioned in the FAQ here and the game breakdown is pictured here.

Of course, this is still not 100% official, but would appear to be the final game count and system breakdown for this years WCG. The development should not be unexpected due to the whole global economic downturn, and I am happy to see that any games are being added myself.

As part of another rumor (coming also from the same location as the first one, located at the comments at: http://www.wcg.com/6th/fun/news/news_view.asp?keyno=C09020610002&page=1 ), no EA game will be used in this years WCG. The only source for this is just the NFS community learning their game will not be used, and I've seen threads were RA3 was having difficulty getting into this years WCG. I'd theorize such a thing would likely be due to problems getting EA to pay for last years sponsorship (this last part is completely and utterly baseless in terms of facts, but just a logical theory considering the amount of time it took to pay finalists).

Sad to see how much gaming continues to hurt - but hope WCG comes out of this recession strong and that WCG Ultimate Gamer continues to do well. After all, they are one of the last major tournaments still standing, and most importantly, they have consistently delivered on their promises to be a first rate event.
The melody of logic always plays the notes of truth.

Having less games at a huge tournament like WCG is a good thing, at least in my eyes. WCG TV will show more bw and you don't have to follow 32423 tournaments simultanously if you're interested in the overall event. I doubt EA had payment issues, they probably decided to no sponsor future events and the WCG organisation will only pick games that are supported by either a huge fanbase (like bw) or sponsors.

I'm disappointed it's still Guitar Hero over Rock Band, but what are you gonna do?
Zero fighting.

To echo what most people have said here, less official games is definitely for the better. Evolution, the major fighting game tourney, only officially has 6-8 games each year.

The community generally supports side tournaments for a ton more games (just like I'm sure people will be playing rock band at WCG), but keeping the official competition to a few games makes for a much better tournament.

I thought Tougeki was the major fighting tournament?

Yes, Tougeki's the one in Japan and thus more prestigious (better competition overall) and has a little more international representation than Evolution, the US-hosted one. Both would be considered really big and major though. On a side note, Tougeki runs 8 games, so it's in the same range.

No more boring racing or sports games?

Sounds good to me.

Now if they just get Street Fighter 4 into the line-up and two more good, entertaining games, and they'll be on the right path imo.

Street Fighter 4 is FAR FAR bigger than Virtua Fighter 5 right now. Case in point: in March, there was a 243-man SF4 tournament in Atlanta, Georgia. The brackets alone were more than 6 feet high:

Wow thanks for posting this. I didn't realize WCG USA qualifiers were coming up so soon. For all the info they have it's pretty hard to navigate to where to actually register. And I wish I could find out what maps are going to be used...

SF4 does seem like a likely candidate for WCG since it is so popular, but is Capcom willing to pay to sponsor? I always felt that Capcom's effort in USA has always been halfass. It is usually the SF community that kept the game alive.
