You have been (randomly) assigned to Team Black, so this vote won't count.

All right, it seems that a number of people are interested in hastening things a bit, so here's the word on that.

Moving Early

1) A move is played early if more than half of the active players on a team have voted for it. For instance, right now there are 51 active players on the White team, so if one move had garnered 26 votes by now, the turn would be over. There are 19 votes for d4 in the thread (to say nothing about PMs), so it's not so far away.
2) Players go inactive if they haven't posted anything for three moves. As of now, I don't intend to change that, unless most of the players want me to change that rule (catch 22).
3) I am not needed to officially close a vote. If a move gets a clear majority vote in the thread, then the turn ends immediately, even if I don't get to the thread for another few hours. (However, PMed votes don't become official until I post them to the thread, since otherwise, there's no way for others to know about them.)
4) If you have a pretty good idea of what the next move is going to be and you know what you will vote in that case, you can cast your vote early, e.g. "If 2. d4, then 2....[your vote]." It will be counted as soon as it becomes applicable.

Hope that works for everyone.

I just meant just for the second (and third) move, since people cannot become inactive by not participating for three moves before the fourth. But it's just a suggestion...

Would like to join but only if can join the black team (sry i know you stated otherwise in your op).
Am retired from chess for years now but was an expert on the french defence and terrible with white opening e4
I wouldnt mind waiting till a spot at the black team becomes available (like when white has 55 and black 54)

If d4, then d5 ,though there probably wont be much discussion about this.

Isn't this just stupid? Opponent shouldn't be able to know beforehand what the other team's move will be. This doesn't work and there shouldn't be a possibility like this in a chess game. There will be some stupid people who reveal their plan before opponent team hasn't even made their move. Or then there will be weird planning like for example 10 people voting now "If 2.d4 then 2...d6" and after we move 2.d4 then the rest of the black team votes "2...d5". It's not chess.

Maybe if there's a way to pre-move a move without showing it to the other team is will be more fair...

But there's a lot of mind game can be played with team chess.

But that's because everyone did start out being active—they signed up.

First of all, you're wrong: this is quite a normal thing in correspondence chess (see, e.g., http://www.e4ec.org/features.html?id=9). It's a way to speed up the game. Secondly, if you're worried about opponents knowing beforehand what your move is, then you should be complaining about posting votes in the thread at all. Thirdly, in either case, if you're worried about giving away your move in advance, you can PM your vote to me. Fourthly, it's just an option; you don't have to use it.

Obviously you don't do it for more complicated moves, but if it's something obvious like "If he takes here then I take back" then it just speeds things up with no harm done. Same for some opening moves.
