Yay summer sales, a whole game of blatant hackers this afternoon.. "We're doing some boosting hurpidurp" Also had a guy that had parkinson attacks on my team, but he explained us that it was totally not a no recoil but just odd mouse settings, y'know.
And yeah coL was surprising, I didn't watch the whole 3 maps but caught some insane frags nonetheless. Shoulda bet my junk skins on them instead of networkguides But I like Shahzam

So what's the best way to learn this game if you just started? Just hit the find match button and inflict myself on society?

I've only been playing for a bit more than a month, and what I did was jump into deathmatches, got kicked around for a few days, inflicted myself on my first competitive games and placed into silver 4, and started playing a DM and a comp per day while becoming accustomed to weapons/spray patterns/maps/etc. now I'm kicking around gold nova 3, probably about gold nova 2 in actual skill level but I've won like 5-6 in a row because of smurfs on my team.

the only mode I find little value in is casual because you will just get crushed by people who have hundreds of hours of CS experience. regardless of the shit you'll get from the veteran silver players you'll be matched with in competitive at first, you need the experience anyway and you get matched with people who are much closer to you in terms of mechanics than playing casual or even deathmatch.

I remember doing DM when I started CSGO and it felt like everyone was aimbotting (obviously they weren't). But I couldn't believe how badly I got destroyed.

The best way to learn CS:GO imo is the same way you learn every other game. Jump into ranked. Get slapped around, drop to your skill level, and work your way up. Works very well, and it's so much fun.

The way I did is I had my brother teach me some basic things to lay the groundwork, and he also linked me to some very helpful Youtube channels such as www.youtube.com/user/thewarowl which helped me a lot. He has some great tutorials as well as other videos which seem to be really good if you're learning the game. Watching a few pro games when you feel like it also helps a ton for learning spots to camp, crosshair positioning, nades, etc.

There's also some links from a few pages back which are very hepful:+ Show Spoiler +

Of course, if this isn't your style of learning, going in cold-turkey works fine as suggested by RagequitBM, as with every other game. Personally I like the more intellectual approach.

i think DM grinding is a lot more fruitful than pug grinding, especially when first starting out

grind dm if you arn't consistenly top 4 of server its probably what you need.

Stick to the guns you want to practice ... bear in mind its almost useless for awp practice as the really important awp stuff is based on map timings usually.

Then find another 4 people and just pickup games. try and play 2/3 matches with same group of people.
When you find a group of people is when you really start to get the game as then you can start to think about coordination across the map - how and when to rotate, work on some nades and coordinated pushes etc.

That said im pretty bad at the game now.

It's annoying because I shoot a lot better in DM than I do in MM and it's because when I'm careful and actually care about doing well I'm slow and sluggish.

It certainly helps that the people in DM are generally not as good or as attentive to certain spots but still I hit my shots much more easily. And it's not just because of 128 tick either, I can see that I aim better and faster. I tried just chilling out in a MM game and I still shoot a lot worse... Not horrible but yeah.

So, I got placed in silver 3 after playing completly terrible today. From what I've read here, that is very low level so it seems like a good place to start learning how the game really works. I was worried that I would place higher since I ended a few matches yesterday with scores of 21-1 and similar, and then get smashed.^^ Definitly have to work on my raw aim since it's shit. Getting 90%+ of my kills only because I know where my opponents are and holding my crosshair up...

yeah, same here as i said a few pages ago. It has less to do with pressure than just knowing you can take risks, stand in the open and not dying. in MM you die instantly if you fail your shot or show yourself, so you have to play in a totally different way, peek-shotting, taking guesses, playing against/with grenades, being pressured... Playing against people of the same skill level does that xD
same for everyone at a decent level i guess.

How to report fags that just vote kick someone (me)? Was with 4 russian guys in a team and muted them (couldn't understand them anyways). We played CT and they all stupidly got shot by an awp from pit on dust 2 (the only opponent left 1 vs 4, lol). I holded position in the niche under A. I only had a pistol since we were on a saving round. Then they just started to vote kick me, lol. I killed the guy with the awp, won the round and then got kicked.

K thanks. : / I hate when something like that happens.

Also, games right now are pretty unsatisfactory. In placement matches you had people using voice chat properly and sometimes even play tactical. Right now, it's just boom rushing and blindly running around picking up kills. When I play defensive as CT I either see no fights because my people just rush and kill everything or I'm left with a 3-5 vs 1 because they all died. Real pushes on T side and flanks aren't possible either. Probably got spoiled too much from placement matches.

The lack of communication is depending on time. Often times starting at 20:00 CET, at the latest from 21:30.

Well he placed in silver 3...

What most likely happened is Miragee is that you played with smurfs who know the game during your placement matches. Silver has a lot of people who have disabled voice or don't know the names of the spots or even the general logic of a game of CS. Luckily, one good player with a little luck can make a difference and you'll work your way out of silver once you get used to the game...

one thing I like about CS; if you really are placed below your skill level, you CAN carry your team hard and win matches even if you get lemons every game. (the same is true of dota but the process is much slower since individual performance takes a second seat to group dynamics aka teamwork).
