I've only been playing for a bit more than a month, and what I did was jump into deathmatches, got kicked around for a few days, inflicted myself on my first competitive games and placed into silver 4, and started playing a DM and a comp per day while becoming accustomed to weapons/spray patterns/maps/etc. now I'm kicking around gold nova 3, probably about gold nova 2 in actual skill level but I've won like 5-6 in a row because of smurfs on my team. the only mode I find little value in is casual because you will just get crushed by people who have hundreds of hours of CS experience. regardless of the shit you'll get from the veteran silver players you'll be matched with in competitive at first, you need the experience anyway and you get matched with people who are much closer to you in terms of mechanics than playing casual or even deathmatch.

I remember doing DM when I started CSGO and it felt like everyone was aimbotting (obviously they weren't). But I couldn't believe how badly I got destroyed.

The way I did is I had my brother teach me some basic things to lay the groundwork, and he also linked me to some very helpful Youtube channels such as www.youtube.com/user/thewarowl which helped me a lot. He has some great tutorials as well as other videos which seem to be really good if you're learning the game. Watching a few pro games when you feel like it also helps a ton for learning spots to camp, crosshair positioning, nades, etc. There's also some links from a few pages back which are very hepful:+ Show Spoiler + On June 20 2014 08:35 Capped wrote: Since ive already compiled this list for some friends of mine, i might as well post it. Personally I like the more intellectual approach. GL!

Stick to the guns you want to practice ... bear in mind its almost useless for awp practice as the really important awp stuff is based on map timings usually. Then find another 4 people and just pickup games. try and play 2/3 matches with same group of people. When you find a group of people is when you really start to get the game as then you can start to think about coordination across the map - how and when to rotate, work on some nades and coordinated pushes etc. That said im pretty bad at the game now.

It certainly helps that the people in DM are generally not as good or as attentive to certain spots but still I hit my shots much more easily. And it's not just because of 128 tick either, I can see that I aim better and faster. I tried just chilling out in a MM game and I still shoot a lot worse... Not horrible but yeah.

Not horrible but yeah. yeah, same here as i said a few pages ago. It has less to do with pressure than just knowing you can take risks, stand in the open and not dying. in MM you die instantly if you fail your shot or show yourself, so you have to play in a totally different way, peek-shotting, taking guesses, playing against/with grenades, being pressured... Playing against people of the same skill level does that xD same for everyone at a decent level i guess.

In placement matches you had people using voice chat properly and sometimes even play tactical. Right now, it's just boom rushing and blindly running around picking up kills. When I play defensive as CT I either see no fights because my people just rush and kill everything or I'm left with a 3-5 vs 1 because they all died. Real pushes on T side and flanks aren't possible either. Probably got spoiled too much from placement matches.

What most likely happened is Miragee is that you played with smurfs who know the game during your placement matches. Silver has a lot of people who have disabled voice or don't know the names of the spots or even the general logic of a game of CS. Luckily, one good player with a little luck can make a difference and you'll work your way out of silver once you get used to the game...
