Doesn't seem like it to me, I've been using orbs of chance but even rolling rare chests didn't seem to make a huge difference. And the alting to get the good mods hasn't ever paid for me yet either. Some mod combinations seem like they could be sick, imagine getting the +x quality mod with the "only drops support gems" one o.O

You should ID every box to avoid nasty surprises, but alting them is rarely worth it. The one that has exclusively currency in it (artisans ?) and gems (gemcutters) and others like that are definitely worth it thou

The threat of this spider is mostly physical due to Ethereal Knives and Flicker Strike. bluQ also died to the EK attack so I assume his armor rating wasn't the best? (her EK is still scary with good armor rating though...)

IMO gem and map chests (map chests in maps only) are always worth alch/scouring. Other chests, no, although in high level maps you'd still probably want to alt every single chest for magic/rare packs and exiles (rather than for the contents of the chests themselves).

Maybe, but the Weaver has "deals chaos damage" as info and the invader hasn't as far as I'm aware. That's why I would assume the Invader only deals chaos damage with viper strike and physical with the other ones. We don't know for sure though, that's right.

How hard would it be to convert a Searing Bond templar into a Discharge templar? I guess Discharge isn't so great right now, what with the life leach nerfs, but I'm thinking a bit down the road when the balance of power is skewed a bit more in favor of Discharge. A lot of the nodes seem the same, even many of the support gems. It seems like it could be just as easy of a transition as Detonate Dead.

I'm doing a paper on digital currency, so I'm writing about ingame economies. I'm mentioning PoE for a few things, like legacy/ discontinued items, extremely high level stuff and not having a true currency. Any suggestions on things I should talk about a bit? I've played a decent amount, but I'm not ultra rich (though I invested in Aegis Auroras, Facebreakers and some of the cheaper legacies, so maybe I am rich now).

The emphasis on fungibles rather than a default currency is probably the biggest thing. It's worth devoting some time towards determining exactly what sort of difference and how big a degree of difference the currency system makes for everyday trade. Well, at least I think that's an interesting investigation to carry out. It's a pity I don't really enjoy economics enough to learn it very well; it can be so interesting.

Yeah, the use of crafting materials as currency is definitely the main reason why I'm mentioning PoE. That and the entire softcore permaleague versus the other leagues that ultimately feed into it.

It would be interesting to do a detailed analysis on the effect of Mirrors and a few other things, but I'm too lazy to do it, and my econ background is pretty weak.

I agree that an analysis on Mirrors and Eternals would be very interesting.
I think an analysis on the economic impact of Vaal Orbs would also be extremely interesting, although it would require a lot of hard-to-obtain data about the pre-patch economy as well as the post-patch economy. A normal crafting analysis would be much simpler, although still quite difficult.

It's a business class called Foundations of Digital Enterprise/Markets. The professor is a bit weird, but the assignment is to write a paper on digital currency. Most people are doing stuff on cryptocurrency and paypal-type things, but I decided I wanted to do MMO economies. Differentiating myself FTW.

Vaal Orbs... probably just made a lot of stuff more expensive. Destroyed a good amount of very good items while creating a tiny number of ultra-powered ones. Some competition for mirroring BiS item services I guess, but the impact is probably negligible for 97%+ of the player base.
