Don't worry, next race starts in 3 hours. This was actually my personal best 901k.

My game crashed in front of a blue skeleton pack when I was almost level 20 with about 3:30 minutes left in the race... Like to pretend I got lvl20 atleast ;-( Going to stick to duelist I think, even thought I kinda failed again at statue zone, like seriously do people not get frozen between every attack there? How do you manage to aoe them down when they kite, freeze and have the big statue tank so much damage... Did some big manups in frost zone though was below 40hp like 4 times so made up quite a bit of time, even with 2 frostrings and 2shotting stuff I still had to skip merveil though, got too scared when I saw how many red bombmobs there were.
|
Skip the Statue zone for the most part. Level a bit more in spiders to make up for it.
|
Yeah definetly going to try and skip as many big statues as possible next time. I also should have used atleast 1 of the 2 alchs on an weapon below lvl10 to make the start in the statue zone less painful. Found a sabre (lvl10) in the golden chest there when I was lvl10 and 95% to lvl11 to use the newly alched lvl11 axe. But since the sabre was actually better I didn't even get mad! Ok, maybe a little bit...
http://exilestats.com/index.php nice site to track your races btw
|
Don't alch any weapon below level 13. That's the level you need for tier 2 mods.
|
But alching a 10/11 and 15 weapon usually makes you kill stuff in 1-2 less hits. Don't really have much else to alch tbh. Can't really save them, tried that and failed. I mean, you find enough of them to waste imo, at least in the chests I take. Guess you can alch rings, but I usually only use 2 sets of rings, either frost rings or iron rings. Don't really need hp rings since I take the duelist route to survivability.
|
You can alch gloves/amulets too for damage, and possibly a leather belt. Rolling +flask duration, +life from flasks or -charge used is pretty big. I guess you could watch Cwu's insane duelist run and see what he alchs!
|
Died at lvl18 with 40% with 10 mins left. 1 more hit on the 4 blue dischargers and I would have lived ((
|
13th AGAIN. And this time my rng was actually garbage, but I was on fire. I actually got to merciless. With better rng this could have actually been a lvl 22 race for me. I didn't get an iron ring or quiver in the first two zones. Had my start not been this messed up man, I don't know I think top 3 record would have been possible. still made lvl 20, so I'm happy.
look at my xp gain. shitty xp gain in the early stage but then I went HAM and just slaughtered everything.

edit: So today was a good day.
14th overall in the 1h Fixed Solo, 13th overall in the first Descent race and 13th again in the second descent race. Consistency man, consistency.

Died twice in early zones to random bullshit again... low levels of Ranger are so ruthless if you aim for the top. No damage or easy blue packs -> run out of flasks -> gg. Or get to the goatmen area lvl 4 and get instagibbed by 5 leapslams when you try to fire your 8dps crude bow. Got 15 on my 2nd retry, ~20 mins late. Was on pace for a 1M.

Can't wait to see you back up there. I feel kina lonely without you or zoro up there with me ;P

RNG gonna RNG. It seems like mine is all spent in sub 30 mins races or getting uniques on retry. ps. Fleep got 850k after dying ~12 mins in. Very likely a record run...

Yeah probably, the thing is, I could have had everything done 5 mins earlier aswell, but I didn't get an iron ring in the first 3 zones so my damage was severly lacking. I caught up alot in the last 20 mins because I think my strategy is just superior to everyone else's. However, that doesn't help when you get owned by early game RNG. I wish I had one race with absolutely perfect RNG. I think 22, if not 23 would definitely be possible. Just gimme goldrim and a sick bow and ill fly through it, honestly.
Also. I got the Conduit Unique and Kaom's Sign. The two most useless uniques I could possibly imagine. Conduit gloves are nice for atk speed but you are constantly mana starved so I tried them for a few mins and quickly realized that it's not sustainable. And Kaom's sign... 1 extra endurance charge... thank you game lol.
|
I think Kaom's Sign would be pretty good on a cleaver. Don't need to use the endurance charge, the life and especially the lifesteal is pretty huge when you're facetanking.
Only unique I've ever gotten in a race was andavarius, and I ended up dying and losing it :^)

Presumptuous much, eh? =) Nugi thinks 24 is possible on a Ranger, and probably 25 with indecent RNG. From what I've seen from your XP progression, your early game is a bit slow, even without damage. Not sure what your early strat is, but you should be able to save ~5 mins by the time you hit the Abyss, which means ~200k more xp in the end. Obviously, that means dying when you find nothing, but that's part of signature events.
Btw, Fleep was streaming his latest run, so you can watch him die and then reroll into uber run.
On another note, I watched Cwu's record run, and it is pretty intense. His patterns for finding Large chests are worth noting. His logout skills are legendary, and it's nice to see the last two zones.
Here are a few notes for Duelists, but I recommend simply watching the video: + Show Spoiler +(race starts ~3 mins into the video) Alch boarding axe he found on the Abyss (req lvl 11, ilvl 13) Alch the first pair of boots he finds on simian (ilvl 15 can roll 15% ms) Get to simian at lvl 11.5, ~22 mins into the run Whetstones + Alch ilvl 17 cleaver Finds a rare basket rapier on chatters, ~210dps cleave going into dischargers Whetstone + alch + chaos ilvl 21 basket rapier Armorer + alch ironscale gauntlets ilvl 15+ (hall of heroes, lvl 18.5, 37 mins in) (insane logout skills, lvl 20, 41 mins in) (bad decision vs bear/EK exile -> logout, 45 mins in) (enters demonic shrine lvl 23, 53 mins in, the fire damage is insane)

Rogue race was probably the most fun I've had in ages and I actually didn't do terribly (well, until I was manfighting an easy exile after a champion roa pack in shipyards and didn't realize I was out of bubbling potion charges). I hope the future rogue races are 1hour-90 minutes or so, though.

rank7 overall 3rd duelist. Finally got my top10, I knew it was possible. Was pretty crazy start. Had no idea what I would walk into, never played on anarchy, never even seen exiles outside some youtube video teaser. Had to log out twice in Mud flats, I basicly went to pick up first thingy, then got aggroed by a shield charging exile, which is 100% impossible to outrun without walls blocking the vision. I'm pretty sure you will struggle to outrun him even if you have an early quicksilver, since you might get charged, or he can simply keep up when you have to stop eventually.
Then the one on Ledge was the first exile I killed, had some white weps that was slighty better than the starting one, then I noticed that the exile ai makes them run away for reinforcements when you attack. Lucky for me I had 4 hp pots (1 medium) and 1 mana pot so I could pretty pot all day while he beat on me and I used my really terrible white weapon dps. The medium pot can almost outheal 4x viper stacks which was pretty nice.
Then the Lower Prison, holy shit. First thing I did was go into the wrong route since there tends to be some bunched up mobs there in my experience, or if the Glacial Hammer guy is there you can outrun him (quicksilver dropped in rocky ledge, yay) I was almost 9 and I thought I might have to skip some areas because of exiles so getting 10 for Brutus might be hard if I don't stop to farm. But it didn't go as planned. I met the exile immediatly and had to run. Barely made it to the wp and ended up logging out since I didn't wanna take the chance to port with 10% hp and no pots.
Then I went back in again, made new instance, hoped that the exile would be at the same blindspot wall, but of course he was right outside the Glacial Hammer so I had to relog and make new instance... Then I made a new one and he was not there, but when I fought the Glacial Hammer skeleton I did the usual hit and run to prevent 3-shot, and I desynched into the room surrounded and I panicked and alt+f4'd. I know logging out is faster, but when you panic you panic :D
When I got back in again I killed him easily and Brutus was really easy aswell. Was pretty far behind at this point, I looked at clock and I used 34 minutes to enter Prisoners gate, and the guy who was #1 was in cavern of anger. Merveil was pretty easy with 1 frost ring and tp's. Then I just rushed fellshrine and farmed it out. Ended up farming church and doing the quest when I was 23 and 60ish%.
Pretty impressive how someone managed to get to act3 that fast. I wanted to try and progress there myself, but I had really terrible gear when I first arrived at fellshrine and no topaz rings until like 10+ resets. Didn't find a single alch, chaos, or unique. And had pretty bad rng in general I think so overall I'm pretty satisfied. Oh, and almost died at the church boss, that guy hits pretty damn hard. 500hp ain't got nothing on him.

Any good resources for learning how to race? I've played through the main game now and I'm looking to get involved in HC and races, specifically the 1 hour descents and 1 hour solo's, but I have no idea where to start. Are there any VOD's or places to learn current racing strats? I was searching for ranger runs in the 1 hour solo category but all I could find was a 4 month old ZiggyD guide.

Sounds good to me, one thing I was wondering is how do people practice for descent? Is there a way of practicing or do you just have to compete in the descent races?
