Howdy, new to Path of Exile since yesterday, already regretting it, it looks way too good. I'm a lvl 23 Marauder, just reached A3, my gear undoubtedly sucks and I've got no idea what I'm doing ^^
I managed to get it going on my positively archaic computer, playing smoothly at lowest, although I'm having some difficulties with the connection sometimes; the game will desynch and I'll mis monsters or end up in the middle of a pack of the bandar-log (the new carvers). Couldn't find a character name which had not already been picked, felt like a complete noob, but then I remembered something, and was able too succesfully pick a name. Ironically, it had not yet been picked, although I ought to have tried it with an apostrophe first ^^
Playing solo for the time being, just making a glorious mess of things like I once did in Diablo 2, it's just more fun. Will try to MP later when the story has been completed. In case anyone wants to hang out or wants to quest (needs to have as little knowledge of the game as I (nothing that is)), OhForFucksSake on EU, for now, off to A3!

There are no realms just so you know. You can play with anybody although the zones will be hosted on the servers of the player who enters first so it can be lackluster to play cross region. Depends on how much lag you're willing to deal with.

If you desync, and you know you're desynced (eg. monsters not moving at all, hits not registering, seeming taking damage from nowhere), type /oos into chat. It will forcibly resync your client with the server.

I randomly came upon a quote on one of Path of Exile's website saying that they intend to make Path of Exile free-to-play forever. What are people's thoughts on this? My first thought was - I need to buy some stash size/random glowy stuff, because these guys need to get paid for designing this game!

Thanks for the info, one realm is a nice thing  Regarding the desynch, it's usually short and into death, no time to do anything about it. Doesn't happen very often though. Starting to hit a bit of a brick wall btw, clay wall more likely, found the equivalent of a savage polearm early on, if you know what I'm saying; 68% ed on a nice base, but in A3 it's leveling out fast :p Oh well, onward! ^^

Anyone who plays just a bit serious has bought like 10+ stash-tabs. It's really wroth it. If you spend 20+ hours on a game you might as wel drop 30-60 euro on the small things.

I feel you man. I logged on for the first time and months and I'd gotten cleaned out. I took it as an opportunity to completely reroll.

RIP lvl 64 1 month race templar. Was EK and traps. Lifes irony had me killed by the bear trap mob in Sarn. Was my first HC char so never thought about actually just logging out.
Oh well, rerolled a marauder and going to go dominating blow + spell totem skelly. With that, enduring cry, molten shell and enfeeble I should be as safe as one gets. :p

my mapping group kinda just fell through so I think I may be up to join another.
82 EK/front line off tank/MF'er (28x IIR 8x IIQ) if needed, can do it while tanking. 4k dps/9k dps non mf
Cant do smothering, blood, - max player res + elemental damage mod, vuln + another physical damage mod.
Everything else is fine/less risky (even when stacked).

Sometimes logging out doesn't work. My latest char was a pure evasion ranger, I was in the Forest Act 2 Cruel, and my laptop started to overheat. Massive fps drops ensues, I decided to click away from the mobs and close the program. By the time I managed to do that my character was already dead; They really have an unforgiving system as far as client/server sync goes and it is very detrimental to the hardcore players.

Is it uncommon to play solo? I don't really like to play with people I don't already know, and since they don't play nearly as much as I do, I've been solo all the way on my main to where I am now, lvl 73 2H Marauder. I'm trying to have some versatility so hopefully certain maps won't be impossible for me to solo.

Well to be fair that was your computer overheating. But yeah, I use the /oos script to keep synced. Every time I hit a mob and it doesn't take damage I get scared shitless, run as fast as I can and resync. :p

I am taking a long vacation from PoE until they reduce desync problems and balance the game better. Adding content so Act 3 is complete would not hurt as well.

I'm looking for someone to map with somewhat consistently, I don't really have a "mapping group" per say, but more like half a dozen people I each do maps with occasionally.

One of the moderators said in game that they aren't done with act 3 and that they plan on having an act 4. So it still seems like they plan to add a lot more content to the game. Keep in mind it has been in beta a very long time (3 years I think?). When they have a release date is irrelevant at this point because it essentially is released; the terms beta and release are just marketing jargon at this point.

I was aware that they're working on an act4, but act3 content still being produced is news to me. And yeah- "beta" is mostly just an excuse for the issues with the engine/servers by now. Once you're selling a product (which they are via microtransactions) I'd say it's pretty fair to call it released. Oh well.
