Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes it costs too many alts to get, in which case its not worth it. I tend to reroll anything under 30% quantity, unless it is maze, massive or more magic monsters (more magic is useful for trying to get higher lvl maps). This leads me to do lots of smothering and temp chains maps, which some of my friends loathe me for, but I have no issues staying in maps. | ||

If all you want is a unique onyx amulet (astramentis, carnage heart or eye of chayula), the item level does not matter. The only reason you might care about item level is that if you chance it into a rare, you'd like it to have the possibility to roll some higher affixes and become a decent rare onyx (to use or sell). I'd advise against chancing onyx amulets though. Even if you get a brown onyx (~1 in 500 chance), you are way more likely to get an eye of chayula (which doesn't sell for much) than an astramentis. Devs have said that build enabling uniques are made to be much more common than powerful uniques (just compare how many eye of chayulas you see in trade compared to astramentises). | ||

I've chanced at least 250 different glorious plates/imperial bows/occultist vestments (750 total) without any uniques. I make enough currency without doing any chance/scouring game and I don't want to take the time or risk to try to chance the items systematically. I just save any of those 3 base types I find and chance them as I find chance orbs then sell them when they don't turn out any good. These items are Kaom's Heart (approx 30 exalted on default), Lioneye's Glare (15-30 exalt depending on links and roll), and Shavronne's Wrappings (20-50 exalted depending on links). If you were to find or craft a 6L Occultist Vestment it would be worth pouring all your currency into buying chance/scouring orbs and using them til you got a Shavronne's. Same with an Imperial Bow. I think the likelihood of chancing these items is much higher than the likelihood of finding them, at least the Kaom's for sure. Lioneye can drop from normal monsters in 66 maps, Kaoms only from rares/bosses in 66+ maps. Shavronne's can drop in Docks so it's base type isn't as valuable, but since it can get 6L a 6L one will be much much more valuable than the plain armor. I've run over 300 66/67/68 maps for the sole purpose of MFing and never found any of these items. I've accumulated only about 4 pages of uniques from that many maps, and I roll them to get more magic/rare/double boss every time as well. Point is the higher level uniques seem to be exceedingly rare. Highest level unique I've actually FOUND is a Rathpith Globe, level 68 Titanium Spirit Shield. Meanwhile I've made over 500 fusings from converting alteration orbs to fusings at a ratio of 8:1 at the vendor. So I've made over 4,000 alterations, not to mention the hundreds I spent rolling the maps I'm going to farm in. | ||

Supposedly there's a new trade system being developed that will allow on-site trading without needing to be on the client. That will help since currently trading involves unwieldy PMs and trying to catch people online. While it's true that you don't need to trade to get by, trading is a huge part of the ARPG genre and anyways what keeps a game like PoE or D2 or whatever going is people who want to min/max their character and will play tons for that purpose. It needs to be done with more finesse than Diablo 2 did it 13 years ago. As of now my memories of trading in D2 are that is was easier than in PoE because I could at least use d2jsp and other 3rd party websites, which is kind of stupid. As of right now I have probably 50-60 exalts worth of very good rares in my stash, but it's so damn hard to sell them and they're worthless to me. I've made several dozen exalteds in the past but it's so easy to spend your currency and so tedious and time consuming to regain it back via selling things. | ||
