Peice of shit lol just saying cause well snes controllers are pretty old, and have no analog stick, so shooting those eggs accurately is quite hard.
Eh, the SNES controller is pretty damn good. I'd take it over an XBOX controller any day, even without an analog stick.
This makes me want to go back to practicing speed runs of Link to the Past. I never was tip-top skill in them, but pretty fast. Would need more practice - i tend to start having issues screwing up at around the Dark world level 3/4 mark.

Interesting choice of game. Isnt the main speedrunning/competitive sidescroller community around super mario world? From the youtube TAS runs it would seem so. And with the original SMW being slightly higher rated one would come to such conclusion.

Super mario 64 is actually far more popular than either as far as I know. Yoshi's Island is definitely speed run less than SMW1, though.
Hey everyone! I finally made an account here at Team Liquid to show love to all the wonderful people who have been checking me out over the last few months on my JTV stream! <3
I'm going live in a few minutes with another 100% SS attempt at Yoshi's Island. Tonight's goal is sub 3:40:00, with my current best at 3:46:xx. I've been making a shitload of mistakes due to replicating very strict, unrealistic routes over the course of a 4 hour speedrun, but I'm hoping to iron out those problems.
I'll be glad to answer any questions whenever the run is over and such.
I just want to say that TriHex is absolutely amazing at Yoshi's Island, and the charity marathons from SDA are really entertaining. I don't think anyone can ever watch TriHex run Yoshi's Island and not come away impressed and thoroughly entertained, even if they did not play much Yoshi's Island.

You're awesome, and I love your hair!! Keep streaming!

Starting within like, 10 minutes. See you there. <3

Can somebody in the know confirm this. I'd love to watch again from the start.

Yes, there will be another run again today. As for when it's a little iffy, RL stuff is kicking all our butts, trihex included. I'll try to bump this thread when he's on. Or, you can follow him on jtv and turn on that neat "notify me when this person's streaming" feature. Currently it's expected that it'll happen a few hours from now, but we'll see.
So in case you missed it... trihex is now the World Record holder for Yoshi's Island, 100%. it's recorded on jtv(he's still streaming right now, so give it an hour), so be sure to go and check it out!

Thank you. I still have a long way to go before I'd say I'm satisfied with this. I still find I'm not qualified to perform 100% Speedruns as the routes for W3-W6 aren't polished compared to W1 and W2. But whatever, gotta top myself from last year's marathon performance!

YES! If there's one thing I wish, it is that more people embrace Yoshi's Island and try the game out themselves. You won't regret it. At a casual level, it's a relatively difficult platformer that has aged wonderfully with stellar level design and simple controls. At a speedrun level, it has so much depth and freedom of affection via egg shots that the sky is almost the limit in terms of optimization!

Thank you. I usually stream Monday and Wednesdays, but with school starting next week, that's gonna change. As of now, expect me to start streaming on Tuesdays, for sure, and Sundays too if I don't have too much homework or RL crap to do.
As of now, my next 100% SS attempt will be next Tuesday, August 23.

Congratulations trihex!
Yep! Check it!
Random Japanese Dude has been dethroned, but I don't want to post this run on nicovideo (Japanese Real Time Attack Website) just yet. I want to get like sub 3:15 or something REALLY REALLY GOOD and then come out of nowhere and just shit all in their mouths! Put USA back on the map!!!
Not to like..get totally off topic but all I remember about this game was how depressed it made me to lose mario and have those evil fucks carry him away it was literally the reason I stopped playing it.
I loved this game because unlike Super Mario World 2 you didn't die after X hits and if you made a bad jump you could sometimes flutterjump back to safe ground. Also because it was amazing. Got the GBA remake 6 years ago, and I finally got 1000 points on every world. So good.

Still a lot of awesome stuff though, your egg aiming and fluttering, and consistency in general is pretty mindblowing.
Yes, it was depressing. He ran out of items and couldn't get enough stars to 100% the extra level cave.
His stream is addictive. The biggest complement I can give is that he actually puts effort into getting good at Yoshi's Island. For most of us, speed running means playing the game again and again until we're fast at it. Trihex practices specific levels, areas, and techniques. Seeing his dedication is fascinating.
He always plays with some friends observing him and talking on skype, which adds to the entertainment. Also, he has a camera on himself as well so you can see his reactions. Even better, because there's not a thousand people in chat, you can actually interact with him and have your questions about the game answered. Finally, his mom always seems to butt in at the least opportune times to ask him embarrassing questions.
I've watched a ton of Starcraft 2 streams, and the last time I've enjoyed watching a stream as much as Ret was pimping the Ansandi Star League and getting 100$s per mention (hehehe).
Dang, Trihex didn't stream yesterday! Or Sunday! He must be busy. If anybody knows when he'll stream next, I'd appreciate an update. I love watching this guy speedrun.
Hey all! Going live for the first 100% SS attempt in about two weeks (classes been kicking my ass), so this one doesn't have a specific time goal, just to finish and not look completely terrible.
We'll resume serious goals for time completion once I can manage time better and play at least weekly.

Today I'm holding a 24-HOUR YOSHI ISLAND MARATHON!!!
Starts within 10 minutes of this post and doesn't stop! It should be really good! Come show me some love!
I'll be accepting donations throughout to help fund my trip to DC for Awesome Games Done Qucik in January -- which is a huge speedrunning charity marathon that is absolutely awesome! <3
ok i watched this and he is stuck at stage 1-1? How is he going to do a perfect 2 hour run :D Oh man, now he got past 1-1 and he got killed by a monster in 1-2 :D
