Teams from Open Cup #1 are not eligible to join, nor will they be for future seasons. Next season will have continued teams (no matter what) where teams from this season can move on.
2 divisions of 8 players, 1 game per week - NO PLAYOFFS
Matchdays are held Tuesday 00:00 to Monday 23:59 EST (GMT-5).
Consider this a pre-season that determines the seeding for the future. Our seeding is random this time, but next season, Division 1 will be considered the high division and Division 2 the low division. The top 4 of Division 2 will take the bottom 4 of Division 1's places. If we choose to increase the number of slots in Season 3, this may be reconsidered.

Use common sense. Be active in playing and scheduling your games. Most importantly, have fun, and don't ruin the fun for others. It's as simple as that. The power I have as a league admin is very limited- all the game client allows me to do is reset games and set scores, both of which won't replicate the results of playing a real game. Admin-ruled games create insane results and are best avoided.
+ Show Spoiler [My opponent and I cant schedule] +In the event that both players are actively seeking a time to which they can play the match, but their schedules just won't agree, it can be ruled as a 1-1 draw. To do this, you must contact Nokarot/Catyoul/potatoedoughnut and inform them of the scheduling issue.
A 1-1 game will receive the same spp as a 0-0 draw (used for auto-draws for inactive teams) but [we theorize] that touchdowns effect your seeding. Similarly, getting a 1-1 result will prove that you are not inactive, so we plee that you report un-schedulable games just to prove you're active.
+ Show Spoiler [My opponent won't respond to my PM] +Contact Nokarot, Catyoul or potatoedoughnut and explain the situation. At the end of the match day, matches that aren't played are subject to a 0-0 draw. If your opponent hasn't contacted you and you properly inform an admin within a reasonable time period, we will award you a 2-0 victory and, further, reminds us that you are active. If you appear inactive, you won't be eligible for next season. It is vital you contact an admin to prove your active status.
+ Show Spoiler [My opponent didn't show up] +Perhaps you scheduled your match for a specific time on a specific day and your opponent didn't show up. First thing you need to do is check the timezones of both you and your opponent and make sure the line up with the agreed upon time.
If you are assured that you were not in error, contact Nokarot/Catyoul/potatedoughnut and copy/paste the PM log between you and your opponent. If there is still time to play, send your opponent another PM and try to reschedule- but if you're contacted an admin and provided the PM log, you will be favored for a WO Victory if rescheduling fails.

If BB drops a game that needs to be reset, contact an Nokarot/Catyoul/potatoedoughnut and ask for a reset. If you are winning, you may have to buck up and consider a re-game. You may ask your opponent to re-create the results, within reason, but be prepared to make a few concessions for the sake of ease.
In the case of casualties, they obviously can't be replicated, but you may be able to make a few free passes to mimic that spp gain. In cases like these, please try to reward the same player with the spp he received in the previous game, and not unfairly stack spp on a single player you wish to level.
If you or your opponent have to re-schedule due to a lack of time, do so. Don't let your hatred of Cyanide want to make you skip the game and go for a draw. If you outright refuse a re-game, it may be considered as a forfeit (unless timezones/schedules don't allow it, in which case a draw)
+ Show Spoiler [Can I use a substitute?] +Admin-ruled games are unfair in one way or the other. Either two teams get screwed out of potential spp or one team gets screwed and the other gets overly-rewarded. Similarly, players from admin-ruled games don't suffer the risk of injuries, while everyone else in the league is spilling blood.
I want our matches to be played, and frankly, I don't care who plays them. Whether its somebody inside or outside the league, you are permitted to allow somebody to stand in for you and coach your team on your behalf. In doing so, you'll have to give somebody your account information, but you can always create a dummy password and reset it later.
You aren't required to have a substitute, but any played game is better than a ruled game. I encourage you to consider this if any scheduling issues arise. Whether you like them or not, all results will stand, but substitutes found abusing the team they're stepping in for will be banned.
I will be keeping count of how many times you use a substitute, to know whether or not you are an active player or simply finding a ringer on a weekly basis.

While I'd love to play in a league like this, I don't think I can manage a play schedule with people over the pond anyway so I guess I'm not losing anything due to no spots being open.
Instead, I think I'll root for anyone brave enough to play Vampires or Halflings. Bonus points for players with clever but not stupid names. Extra bonus points if those players actually become stars or legends.
If the players are willing to set it up, is there any chance we could get VODs of the finals/semis? I realize that since there is no replay functionality that the games would have to be recorded as they are played, which may not be possible to set up, but it would be fun to look over the important games when teams have already developed somewhat.

For Season 2, I can only hope that because we'll have a more active crew, the VODs and live games will continue on a regular basis again. If you were watching the Season 1 thread, you'll notice they kind of stopped as the activity dwindled down. I plan on urging people in the playoffs to stream/record those, though, at the very least.
Also, there is replay functionality :O You just have to load them up through Single Player. We used to use BBManager to store all of our replays and provide ladder/match statistics, but without everyone uploading them, it became meaningless.

I completely missed season 1, in fact this is the first time I'm seeing a BB related topic on TL. It's cool that there's a scene for it here too.

I'm looking forward to S2, the end of S1 with so many inactives is a bummer. I hope that with the smaller league we have a closer and more active community.
For the polls I voted "don't care / no draft." I want to continue my team, but am ok starting over fresh. I don't really like draft, but if my options are draft or no BB I'd play in a draft. I think 1 game per week will keep people more enthusiastic about playing, and I prefer 2divs for shorter seasons. It will mix things more frequently and if you get ruined early you don't have to wait so long to restart.
Another thing we had discussed is a smaller intro league for new people to get a taste for the game. This would be a couple new people and a couple of "teacher" type vets. One problem I think we had last season was excited people who didn't really know a lot about BB. Some of them just straight didn't like it, and I think some others just didn't understand quite how the game plays. Both of these lead to inactive players and vacancies. A short intro league could be a chance to introduce new players to the game/league without negatively impacing the league if they decided they didn't want to play.
I'd be willing to run the mini-league if there is interest. Just post in the thread or send me a PM.
I'm also planning on streaming my finals game(s). I'll post in the S1 thread when I know who I am playing and we arrange a time/date.

Not everyone has to be super hardcore I like that our league is pretty laid back and not super competitive.
BB just isn't for everyone, and this would be a good way to give a taste without having to jump in the deep end. It can also get some spp on new teams for the main league for people with new teams (either new players or restarts for existing players).

I read TL a lot but never posted here before. I bought this game a while back, enjoyed it, but never really learned how to play it (I got stomped pretty much every game I played online lol). I really like the Idea of an intro-league!

I, personally, do not have the energy to run both this league and a separate intro league, but I welcome somebody else to start that up if there is enough interest, and would also welcome teams coming from the intro league to the main league to carry over in the event of a continued-team league.

First starting new teams every season has no sense in BB becouse some teams are good from start (dwarfs, orcs, undead all elves teams) and some are not (chaos, nurgle, ogre and many more). So at the end we will have small team pool in league.
Good league should be open for new players so in my opinion best league setup is like in all good BB leagues - leagues like in football - first (best players), second etc..... New players start in lower league - This working great in many experienced leagues like Orcacola etc.
Draft has no sense in long term leagues (noone wanna play team they dont like)
Playoffs - no sense becouse teams playing playoff games will have advantage - more games more spp.
So imho best is leaguee system - no draft no playoff with clear system of league advance into higher - lower league with keeping teams from season to season.
Thats all for now.
(if someone who think that should have and our comisioner Nokarot (thx mate for great season 1 handling - i impresed how well u did it) tell that its good i can give it too - im in the middle of phd writing and had bad snowboard accident with some broken bones 3 weeks ago so im like cripple atm)

For the record, the intention was always to have continued teams in season 3. The only reason I wanted new teams for Season 2 is because of all the WOs, draws and crap that plagued Season 2 and, in my opinion, made it illegitimate. Season 3 will definitely have teams carrying over.
Draft was just a little cute idea, nothing that would need to be taken "seriously".
Playoffs, while I agree with you, so many people seem to be voting otherwise. Thus, its something we'll likely have to live with.

I would like to use this occasion to thank Nokarot for running season 1. There was a big void after the first TL league stopped on the first match day, and he answered our needs with great care and patience.
I am favorable to keeping the current teams for the people who want to do so. We have played 13 games worth of spp, it would take almost 2 seasons with 8 people per division to get catch up to that, and with only 1 game a week, that would be 4 months "lost".
Also, I get it that the two divisions were quite different in composition, with division 1 being more light and division 2 more bashy, but that's the kind of thing that is going to happen anyway in a real league. Heck, in my Orca Cola division, we are 2 chaos teams surrounded by 8 fast teams. I might get injured a bit less than in a full bashy division (although considering how my games went, apparently not), but I also have pretty much no shot at winning in such a division. Another division in the same tier has something like 7 orc teams, 2 chaos and 1 wood elf. What I'm trying to say is it doesn't matter.
There were a lot of inactive players in division 2, so a lot of walkovers and adminned games, so I understand why some would prefer that. In division 1 however, most of us only had 1 walkover and 12 legitimate games. Ultimately, it's just pixels on the screen and it doesn't matter, but there is no real reason to scratch those efforts.

Now on an unrelated note, there is something else we discussed on IRC.
Parallel to this league, we might be running another "fast league". New teams only, small divisions, activity required. That allows people who want to play more games to have an environment to do so against worthy opponents. The idea would be to have a little league running for maybe 5-6 games with new teams, have good games, a winner, and then delete all the teams and have a go again.
Now, if new people want to join the league, they can start in this mini-league while the big league is running, and would have the option to keep their team at the end to join the big league. It would give them the occasion to accrue some spp before being thrown in with the others.

I would be all for a "beginners league" seeing as I missed the sign ups for Season 1 and also am quite bad at the game.

Still waiting for Fallenfrog. Given that we may be playing continued teams, my plan is to not start this league until S1 ends. However, if fallenfrog doesn't respond in a week or so, I'll probably bring Stormtrout in as a replacement.
We're also missing a number of votes- 15 people registered and only 12 voters.

8 players in 2 divisions is locked in - its plain as day that the majority has voted this, even with some missing votes. No reason to re-vote on this.
Draft is out. There is some interest in it, but I don't want the people who are clearly disinterested to be forced to play something they won't enjoy. Maybe I will revisit this later, as a league that could potentially be run side-by-side with the normal seasons.
Catyoul, potatoedoughnut and myself have decided against playoffs, despite the popular vote. In our Season 1 playoffs, it is clearer to me than ever that some teams are getting an outrageous advantage by playing extra games. Sorry if you guys' feel that democracy has failed you, but this was our group decision. (also another reason to vote for new teams! har har)
The only vote left to collect is New Teams vs Continued teams. We are re-voting this because, after days with 12/16 votes, I don't know who has or hasn't voted, and it is so close that we need confirmation that everybody (and no outside lurkers) have been able to give their vote proper.
Playoffs for S1 are almost over. If at that time Fallenfrog doesn't respond, Stormtrout will be playing.

Voted continued, for mostly same reasons as Cat. I don't think that S1 created unnatural teams.

Voting for new teams.
Season 1 that, in my opinion, require a do-over, due to the mistake of stacked-divisions and inactive players. I firmly believe that division 1 players are at an advantage, as their SPP wasn't distributed randomly and they didn't have to suffer at the hands of as many bashy teams as they would had the divisions been correctly made. Similarly, the bashy people in division 2 only had a few av7 teams to feed off of, not to mention many many WOs.
This is my stance, anyway. Some argue that it is not too unnatural, or that BB isn't meant to be fair. Perhaps not. That doesn't mean I don't wish for a do-over, anyway. In Season 3, there will be continued teams, and there will not be a vote to say otherwise.

Also, I fear that the people outside the majority may feel alienated or angry. I realize continued teams is a large part of Blood Bowl and I'm sorry to go against that idea, but if I'm wrong about wanting a do-over for Season 1, which I very well could be, I hope that the sheer interest in new teams makes you realize that, perhaps, it is simply an option where people would be more happy playing. In the end, all I care about is for everyone to have fun.
Frankly, I plan on rolling out with Goblins, once again crippling myself for the sake of enjoyment. I may have been ready to get rid of the Ogres, but it holds no bearings on whether I wanted new or old teams. I plan to screw myself either way ^^

I'm hoping to PM an admin and request this thread be renamed. With new teams, "Open Cup #1" teams are not allowed to join any future leagues. However, when next season rolls around, teams from this season will continue in to it. It will be Championship Season 2. If you start a new team at this point, you'll just be seeded lower. Everything now is for real, though, and so while you're welcome to retire teams, I suggest you play something that you'll enjoy playing and developing.
As soon as everyone is registered, the league will start. If I have to extend MD1 for a day or two so that it recurs at an easy-to-remember weekly time, I will. Otherwise, no point to delay it, since we aren't waiting for Open Cup #1 to finish.

To anyone not active on IRC, let it be known that Brownjesus is having some account issues, of which are too strange to really bother explaining here. He planned on creating a team last night and hoping that these seemingly un-fixable issues would not become problematic, but his internet went out just then (to which he informed us via phone IRC). As soon as he creates a team we will get started.

Updated the OP with the current post-MD1 standings, as well as a little table that shows who has received WO victories, for the sake of keeping track of inactive players. So far, its empty, but be warned, for you will receive SHAMEEEEE if you're on that list!
Also, I highlighted this in the PMs I sent this week, but because we finished MD1 so early, MD2 will be Tuesday-Monday as opposed to Tuesday-The Following Thursday. Going to keep the max MD time 7 days, whether they are finished early or not. I may make exceptions if you scheduled a game weeks in advance and find yourself unable to play at the accelerated schedule, but I hope that won't be an issue. If it is, you have to PM me, or else!
Edit: With the new patch, Cyanide allowed players to create their own open leagues, wherein we can challenge each other freely. If you want to get some extra games in, for practice purposes or otherwise, feel free to join the "TeamLiquid Open" league. Chances are you'll have to ask someone in IRC to play if you want to find a match, but that should be no problem. Password is proxygate

MD4 is live! Only 1 W/O this week (first of the season) and it was warned in advance because the dude was on a ski trip. No big deal! Hope MD4 is just as awesome as the last 3.

MD4 wrapped up and we're on to MD5. Only 1 WO-Draw this week, but still more than I'd like given that neither player said anything to me Rankings are updated, though, and I hope everyone does well in MD5!

The probability of that happening is directly correlated to the amount of spp on that player and how hard they were to get. So this was mostly just a case of bad luck. If it was a seasoned veteran which did this then you were asking for it.

Oops forgot to make a post about it. MD6 is live! 1 WO happened on MD5 because StorkHwaiting has withdrawn from the league. Stormtrout has just replaced him, creating a new Nurgle team with the name "Fiddlesticks".

Thanks catyoul/potato for trying to revive the thread, but it appears to be a lost cause :O It will be an epic showdown at the very least though.

2 hours till the last MD ends, though I doubt the remaining matches will be played so it may as well be considered over. Another season here and gone, and relatively active at that.
Despite that, however, I am sad to say that I am done with Blood Bowl. Catyoul/Potato may take up where I left off, but that is of course their choice. I, however, have no more desire to play or manage a league, and I'm willing to bet I may not be alone in this regard. Sorry to those who may be disappointed, but I guess that's it for me. Not going to try to justify it with anything.
Thank you all for playing and it was good to get to know some of you. I hope ya'll have plenty of blood-spilling fun without me!

I never did promotions/demotions before I handed over the league ownership to Catyoul. However, everything on the OP of this thread is accurate in regards to league placings etc, so you could probably figure it out from there.

Maybe I'm blind but are promotes/demotes no longer possible? The main info screen for the league says Lorgoth got promoted and Skirin was demoted and that season 2 is now running. And I can't find anywhere in the interface to rearrange divisions.
Is this something only the commissioner can do? Or did it already happen?

If thats the case, I have no idea how it happened. However, I was under the impression that, in case more players were interested etc, the league would be remade every season to change the player cap anyway. Maybe it automatically started Season 2 or someone mysteriously did it themselves, but if ya'll are going to remake it to change the player cap, it doesn't matter anyway.
Also, speaking of Skirn (my friend who isnt really a TL person aside from this league) I'm pretty sure he's quitting the league, too.

No idea Blood Bowl still existed - Last time I played was at the Baltimore Games Day, 1998. Took my orc team to the finals in the 2-day Blood Bowl round robin. Fought to a 1-1 tie in the finals, only to not have time for overtime (the entire convention center was already being shut down) and lose the decisive championship roll-off... ah memories

It must have been default, I did nothing after hitting the "End Season" button. There was a "begin next season" button and everyone retained their old divisions without promote/demote at the time, but I didn't push it. Maybe it was on a timer or something.

Also, would you guys be interested in joining a private open league common between several different leagues (Orca cola, UKBBL, etc.) ? Easier to get open games by pooling all the big private leagues, a good playing environment with no cheaters/discers and the level is much better than Nagg.
It's called Middenheim Open, I can ask for the TL league to join if some people are interested.

I purchased BB:LE during the Steam sale this weekend and don't have any other people to play it with, other than random matchmaking. I'm not very good at all as I didn't play tabletop, but I'm more interested in the fun side of it than becoming a BB master.

Considering the current teams are not very developed yet (only 7 games), I don't think it makes that much of a difference this season. It'll probably better later to make people start from the bottom with new teams, for their own sakes, but I don't see a problem with letting them stay in their spot if they want to.

i really enjoy this game just bought it 2 weeks ago but after 10 games i ran into a bug and then me and this guy dc from eachother after i killed 2 of his players.
game has lots of bugs any idea how fast they get fixed? loseing a player or match isnt that bad but getting dc from a bug is depressing because there is nothing u can do about it.

The cyanide game has plenty of bugs unfortunately. At least in a league setting, we can cancel games and replay them.
