No hints No divulging of information No active distraction
If someone asks for your thoughts--you say "can't tell you" If someone asks for a ruling--you say "ask the judge" If someone asks for non-game information (like price of a card)--you say "after the match"
My experience at FNM as a player is that it's ok to ask some other player a rule question so long as the scope is limited to cards that are visible... although that would not work at a more serious event. This may vary by location.

My favorite judge ruling ever was "This is an FNM, not a GP, just grab a card and that's random enough."
Now that I've settled into my new home, I drove to my local game stores to check them out and see if I can get booster boxes from the past couple of blocks I'm behind on (I knew it would probably be hard right now to get BFZ boxes and that's ok since I don't really play in constructed events anyway, so no rush). The first one had almost no parking and there was an event going on so I gave up lol. The second one also had no parking because there was some skateboarding event in the parking lot, but I found somewhere to dump my car. They had no boxes from any set left. The third store had no parking nearby because of a fall festival but eventually I dumped my car and got to the store. They also had no boxes from any set.
I was trying to give the business to the local game stores, but now I'm going to like Amazon instead...
Also, why is the M15 fat pack more expensive than other sets from ~ a year or two ago?
edit: I'd also like to do a bit of FNM draft but I honestly don't think I can make it to the store by 7pm most of the time anyway so probably just won't happen lol. Also, I played a 6 booster sealed fun event with coworkers and the like, and won all of my matches. Either 9 months away from the game didn't hurt me or returner's beginner's luck was enough to overcome my casual coworkers :p
I really don't think my 6 booster card pool was anything spectacular.

Yea that's the hard thing for me is finding boxes usually. The store I go to usually has enough product the first few weeks of a new set because I think they order more but they dont carry much sealed product (I tried going in on Monday and all they had was a few packs of THS/JIN ~.~)
Also did a draft last night of BFZ, was pretty fun, went 2-1, 1-2 with a Black Red Devoid/Ally thing.
I'm throwing around an Abzan version of the G/W Hardened Scales deck that's a bit more midrangey. Still building up the cards, but Anafenza, Abzan Charm, and Drana just seem way too good to do without in the current format.

I tinkered with a watered down version of Atarka Red this week (basically just swapped in Regent/Flamewake in Sideboard for hangarbacks and Ire Shamans for Abbots since I have neither). There's a Grixis Aggro/Dragons list that intrigued me and a couple of the archetypes from SCG Atlanta are ones I'm going to look into.

I don't want to invest a large sum of money at this point but I would like to play more than once a month, is there a lower investment deck that I can take and be competitive.
Finally a question of etiquette, If I wanted to show up and not play but just watch a few games is that allowed or is it generally frowned upon.
try googling. I found this :
you might be able to find something more up to date. His channel is full of videos.
I am interested too but don't want to spend money and the playerbase is small in my country so I've decided to play Hearthstone (free to play)
The art is MTG is 1000000x better for sure
Thanks, I play hearthstone too but it is a rather solitary experience
part of why I want to play MTG is the social experience at the shop
yeah somehow blizz designed hearthstone to be solitary just ike SC2, when they had such a nice thing going for them in BW and WC3 etc...
More videos here, some of them can actually be pulled off early enough, at around turn 5, if everything survives of course.
As this is TL and all, I wanted to ask if anyone here plays paper magic (or any magic, really) in South Korea? I moved here a few months ago. I play modern and legacy and like to play at Dalmuti in kyodae and Rolling Dice in Hongdae. Occasionally at the Kindle shop as well. If you're in South Korea, please message me!
Once I get the 2 Hangarbacks and 3rd Drana, I'm gonna be running this. The mana is a bit rough meaning it has a few free losses but makes up for it with a fair amount of free wins featuring T4 6/6 Hangarback walkers and other shenanigans. Transformative sideboard into basically what I'd be playing if I didn't like Hardened Scales so much.
It's not the best deck ever, but I think it's competitive enough.
Watching PT:BFZ while the LoL worlds game is paused due to a bug, and Matthew Sperling's BW draft deck is doing some ridiculously sweet things vs Paulo Vitor Damo da Rosa's more linear blue-red deck ... this is up there with Luis Scott-Vargas' triple Goblinslide
Did my first FNM in over a year and a half! What are the best things to draft for in BFZ? It seems like landfall is the most useful mechanic. I tried doing a WR ally deck last night and did respectably (second place in my pod of 8 after 3 rounds), but it doesn't seem as effective as the landfall deck I made in constructed with friends last week.
Some guys were trying to use eldrazi but I had countermeasures to just deal 1 damage to enemies which really hurt them, and they couldn't get their fatties out. I love the 7 mana annihilator 2 guy though.

There doesn't seem to be a 'best' archetype really, it comes down to what synergy you can really lock down. I've seen U/W fliers/awaken do crazy well, R/G landfall, Sultai Eldrazi/ramp, R/U Devoid, B/W lifegain/allies...etc
Just gotta make sure your deck is generally as synergistic as you can get it and your chances of doing well will be better.
Ah thanks. Also, I asked this before but it was buried in a long post... what drives fat pack prices? Some (e.g., M15, theros) are over 40 dollars while others (e.g., born of the gods) are under 30...

My guess is the amount of expensive cards in the set.

Magic Duels Origins.
Is this game any good and worth the time?
Duels is a decent way to learn the rules, is just OK if you know most of the rules already, but don't really play competitively (where competitively is anything past kitchen table). If you're an FNM regular, it's probably a bit simplified to be really enjoyable.

If you mean by the real game, then yes, but as any of us regulars can attest, this can be a very expensive hobby especially if you don't have any friends to lend cards from.
