hell yeah. 2 voyage's end, 1 time ebb thing, 1 searing spear/magma jet, 2 omen speaker. then i transition into my fatties after scrying for 10 years, 1x spellheart chimera, 1x horizon scholar, 1x prescient chimera, ember swallower, artisan of forms and titna of eternal fire made up my fatties.
most people tried to tap out into bestows into a bounce or counter spell, huge blow outs.

I had a sweet RB Minotaur deck with 1 of the rare lords and 2 of the uncommon ones. Didn't have great removal and just lost to shit like Polukranos. Got a thoughtseize at least though.

Won my 26 man prerelease tonight with UG. Had like none of the powerful disruption / removal (my only bounce spell was the 6 costing one). Just played ramp into monstrous stuff and some bigger rares. Grip tides woulda been amazing but unnecessary most games when my stuff is just bigger.

You people and your small prerelease events... *shakes fist*.

It is nice that it's like a 5-6 hour event instead of all damn day.

My removal was way worse plummet and a fight card, just over the top with big fat fatties. I had two tidelocks that just did soo much work.

Just finished a sealed here. I went 4 and 0 picking white and going white/blue. I had a lot of heroic humans I gave flying to with super-trained-condor. My favorite play was monstrosity 10 into 20/20 trample on the large artifact creature. I also had two of that white hero creature with double strike.
The place we went to had maybe 75 players. I won 15 boosters... I refused to split in round four and I'm glad I did haha.

I went UR today as well, with a bunch of fliers, steam augury, stormbreath dragon (seriously wtf), went 3 wins, 2 losses (mana screw), 1 draw. Stormbreath dragon is disgustingly good in limited. Sold it for $25 after the event. Deck was half aggro (minotaur 2 drop, some other aggressive 2 and 3 drops + removal) into 3/4 flier, 1/5 flier, stormbreath, kraken, and also medomai the sphinx (two unknown shores for the splash). Also had anyx and cymede, but cut it for...something else (ah yes, the x/3 x = instants in graveyard trample flier). Just because it wasn't worth putting in despite the splash. Friend went 5 wins 1 draw (ID in final) and won half a box, he also came third in a different flight winning another 10 packs, so he cleaned up this weekend. He picked black, got the whip, the mythic gorgon, solid removal, deathtouch and a few other creatures (though in our friendlies the stormbreath seemed to do all the work..).
Steam augury surprisingly good.

I saw a mono-red deck with Ember Swallower, Purphoros, his hammer, and 4 Minotaur Skullcleavers...he went undefeated. As did I with U/B. I had 2 of those heroic sac a creature guys, the overlord, the Shipbeaker Kaken, and a bunch of 2/3 minotaurs and ways to target my creatures. Held down the board and cast massive threats.

Last sealed pool of the pre for me was roughly this
2 stormbreath dragon (!) 1 ember swallower 1 titan 1 foil sylvan cariatid 3 voyaging satyr 2 unicorn 2 nessian asp 3 spearpoint oread
assorted reasonable quality two drops and three drops (minotaurs mostly)
I went 2-2, I am so, so, so sad . Like, totally happy with the cards I got, but man it feels bad to draw 10 lands in a row two games in a row, and have it take your opponent take that long to kill you twice, knowing the stuff you have in your deck and expecting to hit something, anything. And before you ask, I shuffled that motherfucker for like twenty minutes before the first game and pile+riffled it for about three before the second.

Here's a question, what do you guys plan on playing for Standard now?

You got so much targeted removal and so few threats.

Isn't "The Rock" a heavy disruption midrange deck with big creatures supported by wrath effects that clears swarms of small dudes as you bully the red zone with big dudes?
This neither has disruption, wrath effects, nor reliable big dudes.
Although the color seems right.

I've never been successful with a "rock" deck.
Just not my cup of tea.

This terminology was lost around Alara I beleive. There was an Article about in on SCG comparing modern midrange decks. The Rock essentially turn into just BG instead of the playstyle description.
As for my deck Idea. I really want to test something like this.
4x Boros Reckoner 4x Desecration Demon 3x Blood Baron or Vizkopa 1x Obzedat
3x Chained to the rocks 4x Warleader's Helix 2x Rakdos's Return 1x Rakdos Keyrune 3x Anger the Gods 3x doom blade 3x Dreadbore 1x Whip of Erebos 3x Read the bones
25x Lands
but I think the mana in this set is too poor and I will probably go Boros or Orzhov.

is 3 color really going to be unreliable? i know you won't play 8 scry gates, but maybe we were just spoiled with all the non basics?
|
Note to self: never try to play combo / control at sealed events again. Ended up 2 - 4 at Theros pre-release with my kill being Triad of Fates + either Abhorrent Overlord or Returned Centaur (Mill!!). Not the best idea^^
