Decklist + Show Spoiler + 3x Capashen Knight 1x Liturgy of Blood 1x Quag Sickness 3x Blightcaster 2x Deathgaze Cockatrice 1x Serra Angel 1x Celestial Flare 1x Pacifism 2x Auramancer 2x Mark of the Vampire 2x Dark Favour 1x Divine Favour 1x Shadowborn Demon 1x Ajani's Chosen 1x Syphon Sliver 10x Swamp 7x Plains Relevant SB cards 2x Festering Newt 1x Shrivel 1x Undead Minotaur 1x Celestial Flare 1x Corpse Hauler 2x Congregate In retrospect I would have liked more little dorks to slap my enchantments onto, like maybe a few Suntail Hawks or something to get the t1 Suntail t2 Dark Favour beats plan going. Blightcaster is not as insane as he looks, don't expect to kill a ton of creatures with him out. He was pretty useful for just shrinking my opponents blockers (making them 1/2s or 0/1s) while i suited up my guys with marks of the vampire et al. to push through damage. Funnily enough he was best paired with Quag Sickness to kill big creatures when my swamp count was not high enough. Auramancer is insane and easily the best card in the deck. Keeps the whole thing glued together letting you fight through the card disadvantage of playing auras, pick them highly. I got the Quag Sickness really late in the draft, after I had most of the pieces already, like 3rd in the last pack, I've never slammed a card so hard before in my life. For sideboarding I brought in the newts over cockatrices against this pretty aggro r/w deck, also brought in the other celestial flare over a dark favour and added a plains over a swamp since a high quag sickness run was less important in that MU. I brought in the Shrivel against this guy who had a lot of mana dorks, that was kinda funny, first time I ever played that card for serious value in a draft. In the last match against a control deck I brought in the corpse hauler and undead minotaur over the 1/1 first strikers since the knights didnt match up well against his walls and he had mostly fliers anyway. Corpse hauler was nice as another copy of auramancer or as it was in the last game, a second shadowborn demon in the late game. As for the draft format overall, as I thought after the sealed, fixing is shit don't go outside 2 colours unless you really have the means to support it. Green has super strong creatures. Creatures don't seem to be able to trade very profitably leading to cluttered boards. I think the 4/1 red cat for 4 is secretly a good card in this format.

Disappointing really, considering how deep M12 and M13 were (for core sets), and how they had way fewer trap cards for newbies. I look at M14, half of the cards are noob traps. But maybe I'll change my mind when I play with the set.

Odd thing to note: I typically play red, and so I'm always on the lookout for red cards. Out of the 26 packs I've opened, I haven't seen a single shock. The annoying thing is I'm a new player, so I don't have any old ones -.-

I had fun, would have gone X-1 but a guy I played against didn't put counters on his creatures (even when I offered him dice) and I ran into a bad attack 10 turns later because of it. Format is really fucking slow and there's extremely few bomby/exciting rares. Liturgy of Blood is pretty damned awesome. Best story of the night: Woman went Nightmare one turn, next turn Liturgy of Blood your guy into Liliana find a Swamp, play it, swing with Nightmare. Won easily.

If he doesn't put counters on, do the creatures even get the bonus? If someone refuses to put counters on, I'd treat the creatures as simply not having the counters. I played a guy who refused to record his own life, and after a G1 where he essentially gained 7 life on me by refusing to acknowledge a turn's worth of damage, I just pulled out a second spindown and counted for him. Still won 2-0, but fuck him, seriously.

I was up against an 8-10 year old kid once and he didn't want me to cut his deck. I talked him into letting me cut it, but I was about to report him to the staff. According to his friends, it's not that he was cheating, just that he hates having his deck cut ever, for some stupid reason. I felt dumb arguing with a little kid though.

You should always keep track of everyones life encase someone messes up or tries to cheat. And yeah should always cut decks i know i'm good enough to after i've searched though my deck have a rough memorization of key cards and be able to false shuffle/cut the deck in a way that those cards would be around the top.

As for deck cutting, if it's a little kid who gets upset by having his deck cut (there are a few at my lgs too) I usually just let it go. The one thing that annoys me most about younger kids is that they are usually quite hasty when they do anything, like they cast a removal spell targeting my guy and pick up my card and throw it into my graveyard, or they bin my creatures the second I declare blocks as if doing that stops me from playing tricks hehe, I just put it down to age I guess, but other people handling my cards when I'm sitting right there is a bit grating. But you still have to watch out, there was this older guy, like high school age (16ish) a few pre releases ago who refused to let me cut his deck so I called a judge on him. As it turned out a few rounds later he got DQd for sneaking cards into his sealed pool so eh, some people are like that although I cannot understand why.

I also usually carry a full set of tokens in my bag too, because I hate it when someone says "oh yeah this group of glass beads is a thrag beast with 2 gavony activations. Fuck that, I want to SEE what it is. I had several times where I'd suicide a silverblade into a "centaur token" because it was some random small d6 located somewhere near their lands. My memory sucks, I cant remember that you played that shit 4 turns ago and it survived my bonfire courtesy of a selesnya charm or whatever. /rant

Still, it was pretty fun to play. And I think I'd enjoy drafting M14. Will likely do so this coming week. My friend went 4-1, building a deck with a lot of stalling and walls, into dissmiss into dream, and the enchantment that lets you give creatures flying. Dismiss into dream + Enchantment that lets you give flying = permanent killing all their creatures, effectively. Was funny to watch people get upset.
