Finally had a good run with my boros deck last night, went 4-1, only guy I lost to was a really good esper control player, lost to him by 1 turn . Hit him with aurelia's fury for 10 when he had 2 cards in hand and 10 health....unfortunately one of those was a sphinx's. Angelic overseer + silverblade is so ridiculous, and slayers stronghold is so damn good vs control, makes even topdecking dangerous.

Thanks. Friend took my deck again to Indy. Guy has more games with my deck than I do.

Edit:

His response when I ask him about it, "your deck is pretty lucky". Because whenever I test in real life, its like missing double white, missing black, missing LANDS.

10-20% of the cardpacks they win. (maybe I'm being generous; you could probably charge more, lolol)

Nah, he plays the deck much like the other Esper player in this thread, deth2munkies or Risen, can't remember which one. He prefers a UW shell splashing for black while I prefer the UB shell splashing for white. We ended up agreeing to something in the middle.

The singleton Alchemy was my contribution to the deck since against aggro Alchemy is better than Sphinx's sadly.

Edit:

Well, he made it to top 8 as the only Esper player.

Talking with a friend who's trying to get into casual Magic and make a Commander deck. He bought a Deckbuilder's Toolkit and an Izzet vs. Golgari duel pack. Says he wants a sneaky BW lifelink deck, but Obzedat costs too much so he's gonna go for Vish Kal instead. (I hate his guts for this choice; my brother runs Vish Kal, and it completely nullifies all of my sneaky "shuffle-into-your-library" spells T_T ) Based on what I'm hearing about the current meta, it's safe to assume Obzedat won't be dropping in price anytime soon?

Well Risen didn't win the PTQ, since a friend of mine did :p Sorry Risen.

Is this the same friend that Top 8 last time Judicator, that's pretty impressive streak with that deck.

Was fucking was 3-0-2 for the dumbest shit. Lost to infect and just left.

The two draws were the stupidest things ever. Judges were trash. Little Shop of Magic is the worst shop ever. Will never play there again. Only top 8 gets prizes? And even then only 12 packs to 5-8? Fuck off.

I've never heard anything but bad stuff about Little Shop of Magic, but I've never played there myself, they shouldn't even be allowed to host ptqs or anything.

I suggest, Cheese Boy Comics or Action Comics , you don't really get a choice when it comes to PTQ location though

I used to play Magic non-stop, eat sleep live, until high school. Then I quit.

Whenever I go to my local cs I always check out what's new in Magic. It's been like.. 8 years of me just "checking" on shit.

I kind of want to play magic online, but I'm on a budget these days.

How much will it cost me to play? I don't want to play with shit decks, and my budget isn't Kraft Dinner poor. But I don't want to spend $10-$20ea on rares/lands.

I mostly played mono black because of cards like Laquatus's champion and zombies, and just mean awful things 'death' cards.I started dabbling into UB though.

Anyway, anyone know a ballpark on just how much it would cost to start up and have a baller deck? (just one for now) and a decent SB?

Obzedat hasn't peaked yet because Block constructed hasn't been explored completely yet, meaning that PT DGM should be block constructed and if they are playing Obzedat in some kind of block deck then he would only go up and not down.

He's a very good weapon (better than Jace) against all of the midrange decks and against Bant. Just a very flexible card that serves the same role as 5-Gideon in a lot of these decks; gains you life, dodges sorcery speed removal, makes control decks suddenly threaten life points. Those are generalizations but it clearly has more than one role in decks, defensive/offensive.

Edit:

Yes Bluebird it is. He's top 8-ed 3 of the last SCG events around us. Each one bigger than the last (except the Classic).

welp went from x-0 to x-3 in a series of matches where I mulled to 5 and flooded out in a deck that plays 20 lands and Bob/Serum Visions. Pretty much a classic bad beats sob story lol. I liked the deck choice a lot, felt like a lot of my games become very winnable if I correct like one small decision in each game, even if variance was not on my side this weekend.

Field was hella RG aggro, UGx Wild Defiance infect, and UWR variants... or so I saw in between my rounds. I ended up playing against Bogles, Junk midrange (opponent flipped running 4 drops to his Bob and died lolol), BW tokens (Spectral Procession and Lingering Souls own my soul), Runeflare Trap, UWR Twin x2.

Most Standard decks right now are probably in the range of $300-$400. R/G aggro is the cheapest competitive deck at like $60. However, there is a black control archetype in this format, and it's pretty cheap to build:

http://www.channelfireball.com/home/breaking-through-black-by-popular-demand-14th/

Travis Woo's Wolf Run version can be found on that same site if you browse the articles. I don't think the decks have very many huge money cards, they're probably under $100.

If you're really on a budget, you can pull off a good Boros deck without the shocklands for under $50 and steal a few games here and there. It's not going to consistently beat the $300-400 decks but you'll definitely be able to compete with better draws.

Aggro decks are really good in the format and there are budget alternatives for the majority of the expensive cards in them.

The MTGO academy bots usually have the best sell/buy prices on average that I could find. You can get single buy/sell prices that are better in other places, but it's nice having one place to go to with stored credit and not worrying about shards of tickets stuck on other bots that you cant deal with. Granted, if you're selling a Jace or something, definitely check multiple bot prices before you sell and go with the highest one with a whole ticket.

Thank you for both of your responses. That was exactly the information I needed. Appreciated.

Edit: One more thing actually...

When you purchase cards, and they eventually get phased out, will you be able to carry those cards over? Or do you have to purchase different cards even with the exact same abilities ei. Bird's of Paradise, or lands like Blood Crypt, or an older mutilate card, etc...

I should add, as long as they are 'legal', can you use your old phased out cards. I hope I explained that good enough??
