The Guillaume Wafo-Tapa v Conley Woods game just now on PTQ Gatecrash was crazy. Sheesh.

Still think Conley had outs though.

I think he was just dead.

At time of concession he had 5 cards in his library. He had to attack Jace with Griselbrand that turn because Rakdos's Return could have been Dissipated. He needed to swing twice more for the win but only had one turn left because of the Drownyard.

The Azorius charm cycle into Devour flesh was brutal. If Conley untapped with Crypt Ghast I think things would have looked very different.

Hey guys, my friends and I are going to do a draft real soon. ive already looked online for a ton of tips and strats but i want to get a feel of what you guys think. plus this will be my first ever draft.

What are you asking here?

im asking for more tips and strats that TLers use when drafting.

and no i dont have like, any cards xD only a few whites that my friend game me and a basic poison counter deck. xD

Some tips for new drafters (and new players in general). As you get more experienced, you will probably find cases where these tips don't apply, but for a new player they should be helpful more often than not.

Play 40 cards total (please no more than 40), 17 lands and focus on picking and playing mostly creatures and removal spells.

Lean towards picking and playing the lower mana cost card if you have a choice. If you have more than 40 cards and are looking to cut something, cut the highest cost card (assuming it isn't a bomb rare).

Not to be rude, but you will probably lose a lot of games at first, and it will feel like you got really unlucky. In reality, there are a lot of difficult choices and decisions to make, a lot of which are borderline impossible to make correctly as a new player. Just try to learn as much as possible. After each match, point to a card and ask your opponent if they think it is any good or if they have any suggestions for a new player. Generally people are pretty helpful. Note that pointing to the bomb you just pummeled your opponent with and asking "is this good? why?" can be considered rude and should be avoided.

Also just remember BREAD, Bombs, Removal, Evasion, Aggressive, Dregs. That's basically the order you choose cards. Evasion is stuff like Flying or unblockable, gets damage through. It's easy to gum up the ground with guys, hard to get ahead from there. Aggressive guys can get around before the board gets gummed up. Removal is obviously useful.

Yup, this system is VERY good for people who are newer to drafting. A bomb is a card that can win the game by itself, so if you see this kind of card (examples in gatecrash are things like obzedat, zegana, aurelia, clan defiance, deathpact angel, etc.). Even if you're not in the colours of that card, you take it, because you simply don't want to play against it, so say you're drafting simic and you pull an aurelia's fury, you still take it because if you don't, someone else will, and they will kill you with it.

Also, like mentioned, moneydrafting is typically something you want to do, especially if you don't have a very large collection, so if you find a card that's worth a decent amount of money, like a shock land, a planeswalker, boros reckoner, duskmantle seer, etc., just take it.

Then a lot of the other stuff that has been mentioned as well is very useful, like don't try to force a colour too much, one of my recent drafts I thought I was playing orzhov up until pack 2 pick 2, but at that point I had just seen too many good simic cards being passed to me, while I thought 1-2 other players were also drafting orzhov, so I decided to switch, which I'm pretty certain ended up being the right decision.

4-0 split with a simiple Naya midrange deck I put together. Turns out aggro decks have problems swinging thorough turn 2 4/4,, turn 3 4/4, turn 4 Silverheart, and Esper control ran out of wraths eventually.

Alright, finally got time to post my list:

+ Show Spoiler +

3x Sacred Foundry
2x Stomping Ground
3x Rootbound Crag
4x Temple Garden
4x Sunpetal Grove
1x Kessig Wolf Run
1x Gavony Township
3x Forest
1x Plains

2x Arbor Elf
4x Avacyn's Pilgrim
4x Loxodon Smiter
3x Ghor-Clan Rampager
3x Silverblade Paladin
4x Restoration Angel
4x Thragtusk
4x Wolfir Silverheart

2x Selesnya Charm
3x Boros Charm
4x Farseek
1x Aurelia's Fury

Played against Mono Red, Naya Humans, and 2x Esper control and only dropped 1 game against mono red when I mulled to 5 on the draw and had him dead on board and he ripped his second Hellrider

4/4 is very big in a format dominated by aggro decks playing 2/2s and 3/3s, I can normally get one out on T2 or T3 and start blocking against aggro decks. Even Boros Reckoner is usually forced to just trade with it rather than dome me, because I'll only be dropping more 4 toughness dudes over and over every turn. It's possible for a very fast draw from humans or that R/G deck that can get 4-5 creatures out on turn 4 to just run me over, but so far that hasn't really happened. The deck does somewhat stumble without a mana dork/farseek in the opening hand, but playing 10 of those effects virtually guarantees I'll get one in the first couple of turns on the draw.

Against control decks, having an uncounterable smiter and 19 MUST ANSWER threats usually overwhelms their removal suite, and it's really easy to not overextend into verdict with this deck, plus you have Boros Charm. Sideboard (which is still under construction) has some number of Skullcracks, Thalias, and Garruks to come in for mana dorks and Silverblades.

Against other Midrange decks, we usually go over the top with Ghor Clan bloodrush and Silverheart. Aurelia's Fury dominates boardstalls by letting us tap their entire team and alpha for the win. Considering a second in the sideboard (if I can get a hold of a second one).

Why am I not playing Aurelia herself? She's kind of expensive and very hard on the color commitment in an almost entirely green/white deck. The deck is pretty much G/W midrange splash red for Boros Charm, Fury, and Rampager. Besides, I think Silverheart is just better in a lot of situations where you need a huge blocker, plus he plays very nicely with Rampager, Silverblade, and Restoration Angel.

Finished the draft, ended up as 4th, lost too many games due getting manaflooded or screwed and was cut out of most colors early on. I went deep into Dimir and managed to win about all the games where I actually got to play instead of mulling myself practically out. Ah, at least those games were fun and I got Duskmantle Seer out of it.

Should really be more patient with shuffling and make better calls on mulliganing. I hope I learned something.

I swear he can't actually own all those cards. He's got to have borrowed some of them from friends or a dealer. Otherwise that deck would cost more than some Legacy decks do @.@

Dezani new leader of the salt mines.

Wafo-Tapo's list from what I can tell is something that suits his abilities, as in he plays it very well. Just straight up read Lukas and would have won if he decided to be more aggressive with his Jace. Nobody plays around Magmaquake.

Edit:

Joining Dezani is efro.

It's an Esper Control deck. The actual card choice aren't anything special. It's just that... the entire deck is foil.
