Different people like different things, and nowadays everything is getting "dumbed down" ...I mean really, name one game that will make a lasting effect on the video game world that came out recently. Of any recently released game, do you think any of them will be like...Link to the Past, Baldur's Gate/NWN, Broodwar...that just last forever and are constantly brought up 10 years down the road. BG and NWN are considered epic RPGs (and I love the entire BG / NWN series to death, don't take this the wrong way) but they just don't cater to the market anymore (the mass market). They focus too much on immersion and player interaction - there's not enough handholding, and face it...people want handholding nowadays. Look at any RPG that comes out - It's the equivalent of 1a2a3a most of the time. You have a start, and a finish, and you go there in a straight line.
Look at WoW's pretty impressive lifetime.
Vanilla: Tough raids. Took some work and dedication. PVP Titles were no joke either. BC: Maybe two hard raids. Rest were pretty simple. lols Arena. Wrath: 1a2a3a all dungeons.
It's pretty easy to see - and we can even put Bioware as the example - how companies are shifting from a "Here's a story to guide you, have at it." to a more linear "Here's your path through our story."
It's just so much easier to put out a pre-built RPG and run your tests from point A to B and forget about it to start your next game. Not that it's bad or anything...it's what the market eats up. I get your point but its not like Dragon Age came 10 years ago, and if it was so successful despite the fact that it wasn't "holding your hand" and wasn't action hack and slash then that means that there is still market for people who like more difficult games. I just don't find the logic in making Dragon Age 2 so different from the 1st one when the 1st was so successful.
The logic is more appeal to the console crowd...the first game was a bit too complex for consoles which is why the PC version ended up being a LOT better. The second one feels 100% like a game made for consoles with the PC as an afterthought. Sadly we miss out because of it

For that matter, do they even have common sense? Mass Effect DLCs add up to more than triple to the cost of the actual game. In fact, I grabbed ME2 for $9.99 while it was on sale, but Lair of Shadow Broker DLC by itself costs $10! Makes me want to pirate something...
While not advocating piracy, I can say that bioware DLC, while very fun and good, is probably not worth the price-tag most of the time. I will however point out that the bonus items/other junk you get for ordering from different locations is bullshit, and I have no problems cracking the ones I didn't get from buying the game only once.

There is no shame anymore when it comes to DLC. Hey. we're gonna release a game with the majority of the content... but make you pay for some extra after you buy.

Announcing a dlc before the game comes out is just a slap in the face to the community. Especially when they've publicly said that this game is shorter than the original dragon age.
|
Wow...while I love bioware that DLC before the game is released is really pathetic. I never actually pay for DLC because 10 bucks for 2 hours of gameplay isn't worth it. Now I might stop paying for bioware games all together. C'mon bioware, don't make me pirate all of your games out of principal...
If they want any chance of saving face they will release that DLC for free.

I'm a pretty huge bioware fan and tbh announcing a DLC for sale at $7 before the game is even released pissed me off quite a bit. I mean really? The game is not even out yet and you want to sell DLC's???? Maybe they should actually release a full game at the actual release date and maybe later work on DLC's????
This is just pathetic, makes me want to cancel my order

what kind of dlc?
if its just more starting gear or a special starting weapon or a different looking armor then im fine with it and see it more as a pseudo special edition.
if its actual content like quests then fuck them. but tbh i got most dlcs for dragon age and me2 in "easier ways" too since i hate the dlc trend overall.

They had DLC at the launch of the first one, lots of companies do this now its not a new thing. Its generally a different team working on dlc at the get go. As far as 'releasing a full game' The game is sure to have be finished for atleast a month longer if you count that the previous month or two has been primarily debugging and QA feedback that doesnt require the entire production team.
Since the dlc doesnt have to worry about things like going gold or shipping theyre free to work on it up to the release day of the DLC, so in other words if there was no dlc you either wouldnt get this portion or would be waiting another couple months for the game.

I hope youre prosecuted to the full extent of the law then, youre the reason why we can't have nice things in the pc game world anymore.

Now I'm really not gonna buy the game. Fuck you, Bioware.

They did it with dragon age as well.
Stone prisoner was available upon release, and wardens keep was either available shortly after or at same time as well wasn't it?

Didn't it come free with the game though? >.>
Edit: Well, I know that Stone Prisoner did at least.
When is the DLC gonna be out anyway? Because if it's gonna be out at the same time as the full game, then there's no reason for it to not be in the game in the first place, IMO.

Stone prisoner was free with the CLE no idea if it was for the regular. I know that this DLC is free with the dragon age 2 signature edition as well. It is not for the regular.
I honestly don't see why people are mad about it. It gives players 1 free character for preordering, or you have to pay to get the person. You don't have to download it to play the game as it was intended -_-

But you'd already be paying $60 for the game itself. And now they want an extra $7 on the SAME DAY? They can go to hell as far as I'm concerned.

So basically Bioware is saying that its games are worth more than the traditionally accepted $59.99. It's just that Bioware is nice enough to cater to its less than wealthy fanbase, selling the $66.99 game at a lesser pricing, with a piece of the game cut out of it in order to justify its generosity.
Very nice, true Ivy league marketing.

Should have pre ordered the sig edition? I honestly have no idea why people are so annoyed over this. They have done it as a company before more than once. Be mad about it then, not now.
If you like the series buy the game, if you don't then don't. You don't have to get the dlc nor will it really matter if you do. The stone prisoner dlc that came with launch literally did nothing but give a small story to getting a new character who was meh. Its a dlc the diehard fans get for "free" for pre ordering so far in advance, whereas anyone else who wants it has to pay for it. I see no issue with that.

Unfortunately this stuff won't stop as long as they are making money on it. They won't care about alienating segments of their audience as long as our dollars tell them to keep doing it. It is stupid and shady but for some reason a large amount of the market seems ok with it.
Personally I'm never going to pay for DLC ever again. But I'm still a sucker paying for games that a knowingly released not as complete as they could be, for now at least.

That's my point though. They're charging full price for an incomplete game, more or less.

I have never bought a DLC and never will. Bioware should be ashamed.

I cant believe people still complain about this, a game usually goes "gold" 3-4 weeks before release, so its not a surprise that bioware would work on DLC during this time. The stuff on DLC was never going to be on the game. Day 1 patch or DCL is very common practice.
Also Stone prison is free for all NEW (not used) copies on DA:O.
