D3 beta will obviously be a lot sooner than that (as far as we know), but it doesn't mean beta is going to start this week. Bashiok even said they doubted an August beta, expect September. Okay, but if it makes it to October, and I still don't have a key, I'm grabbing my semi-automatic pitchfork and driving down to Irvine.

We have begun early media and fansite outreach in preparation for the upcoming Diablo III beta test. The email they are receiving clearly states that we do not have a date to announce for the start of the beta test. While we appreciate the interest in the beta test, we’d like to take this opportunity to caution everyone of potential phishing attempts or scams. Emails from Blizzard Entertainment will NEVER ask you for your password, and if you are selected for participation in the beta test, you won’t need to click any links in any corresponding email that you’d receive from us. When the time comes, players accepted into the beta test will be able to sign in to their account at www.Battle.net and see a Diablo III Beta license as one of their game licenses, as well as the ability to download the beta. In order to be eligible to participate in the Diablo III beta test, you should set up a Beta Profile on your Battle.net account, by following these instructions: http://us.blizzard.c...articleId=27087 You'll want to stay tuned to the front page blogs of this community site for future announcements regarding the Diablo III beta test. These things going out are not betas. It's just "send us your email so we can invite you later." The CNET guy was misleading when he said he'd gotten a beta invite =/ This is more like a pre-invite invite >.<

"You do not need to go through the opt-in process" <3! Then again, I was one of the original Diablo 3 WarCraft authors. Basiok did say that we could potentially get a beta invite, like 2 years back. He hasn't forgotten about me, LTGH and CloudWolf. T_T

It sounds like Blizzard is working off the themes he created for the Diablo franchise. A lot of what made Diablo II so much more atmospheric was the soundtrack. Just listen to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOBeJzkS9to&feature=related And now this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCpjXyYoYFI The sound like they belong together. I forgot how brilliant the soundtracks for D2 were, really sets an amazing atmosphere.
