If you just want a low-level build, open Sapphire Crystal + 2 hp potions into catalyst + boots and then rush Rod of Ages. After that build a Warmogs, and then a Guardian Angel, then a Banshee's Veil.

At a higher level you have a lot more freedom with your opening based on the other teams. Sometimes I'll rush two NLRs for mad AP damage on rupture/scream/spikes/feast. Sometimes I'm up against a jungler and I'll open rejuv bead + ward + 2 pots and keep their golem warded for ganks. The rejuv bead becomes a spirit visage, which I sell late game if I need a slot. Sometimes I have to play straight tank and I rush Chain Mail or Negatron Cloak, which you just stack out feast with and hope your team can kill after you aoe knockup-slow + aoe silence the team and feast nuke the carry.

got bored with ashe/ez and started playing yi, first melee character i'm feeling pretty comfortable with.
been opening with starks into boots then ie. i assume this isn't the greatest of builds but life-steal fucking helps when taking red/blue buffs.
what are some good builds for ad yi?

In whatever order is good, just get youmu and emblem pretty fast.

How much are people getting per win with respect to ELO?
I've been getting like +17/+19 per win but I swear I used to get a lot more than that..
Maybe I'm just imagining it

It depends on the differences in Elos and if it's anything like the system they use for matchmaking in normal queue, you get a huge Elo boost when you start ranked to catapult you into the correct tier for winning.
