it wasnt a foul, it wasnt a block either, it was just a bad play by Tony Allen, almost as bad as Garnetts awesome put back when celtics were attempting a run.

By the way sorry about my random offseason poking-my-head-into-this-thread-isms, even if it's a playoff thread and not an offseason thread. There was a lot of speculation that losing Brown and Ferry would give the Cavs a better chance at resigning LeBron.

I knew he had issues with Brown but I didn't realize he had issues with Ferry, too. I dunno, starting over from scratch seems like a bizarre way to woo a superstar, especially considering all the management turmoil you're going to go through. We'll see, I guess.
^-- I'm aware that all the teams wooing LBJ are all crappy, rebuilding teams, too, but it seemed to me like the big draw of Cleveland would be that it had a comparatively championship-ready roster.

Doc Rivers Hides $2,600 in Lakers Stadium.
After the Celtics beat the Lakers in their only regular season game at Laker stadium Doc Rivers asked for $100 from every player and staff. 26 people--$2,600 later Doc hides the money in the visiting team locker room. Doc told the players and staff that the only way they'd get this money back was to get back to the Finals.
Keep in mind, during this time Celtics were on a downfall, #3 in the East at the time and nobody was expecting much from them.
Yesterday Doc retrieved the money and hopefully the Lakers' chance at a ring this postseason. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Editors Note: at Celtics loss yesterday.

I felt the game wasn't even all that physical for the way it was called. Yeah, there were a few hard bumps here and there, but for the most part didn't seem like much. I'm sure it's just Crawford setting the stage for how he wants the series to go.

Wow I can't wait to see game 2, though I hope Celtics play their real game. But Gasol please keep killing them. Phil Jackson's helped nudge him into from an occasionally brilliant, occasionally lackadaisical player into the 3rd best center in the league (not including injured Yao). Given his low post repertoire, his free throw shooting, his offensive boards, and length in the paint, he might even be a better overall player than Dwight Howard in crunch time.
I don't know why the media thinks he was bad in the 2008 finals. The Celtics put a considerable amount of effort into trying to control him, and every time they didn't body him out of the paint he wreaked havoc.

He was pretty much destroyed in 2008, Garnett walked all over him. It's both Garnett deteriorating and Gasol improving, more of the former.

Perkins, Big Baby, PJ Brown, and Garnett all took turns guarding Gasol. Perkins and Big Baby were completely ineffective against his length. When Garnett was on Gasol off the ball, he'd go to help and got burned, and if he didn't help there's Kobe and Odom. I spent most of the finals watching the paint even off the ball; the effectiveness of 1v1 isolations tells only 1/3 of how well they're playing.

Well, Danny Ferry probably just resigned in protest because they fired Mike Brown. Those two were pretty good friends.

Damn KG. What is up?? I really like Kobe. He is so good, tooooo good. But I dislike the Lakers. Hate Pierce, but I'm rooting for the Celtics. Does this make sense?
Game 2 I feel it will be a closer game. Celtics know how to adjust to how a team plays. I don't wanna be a noob and say Lakers will win because of home court advantage, but I think Lakers will win Game 2, but it'll be a closer/funner game.
Cheers to an exciting Finals.

wow ferry left the cavs eh...i'm pretty surprised. duno how that's going to work out
on another note, how many teams have gone on to win the finals after losing the first game? does anyone have the stats on that? i just have this gut wrenching feeling that the lakers are gonna win it...AGAIN

I don't know the general trend, but I believe that Phil Jackson's teams have never lost a playoff series after they won the first game.
By the way, how stupid is it that the NBA finals have a 2 day dead period between game 1 and game 2? They may get better numbers for game 2 by waiting to play on sunday, but does that do anything to build interest in the series or the sport? There should never be more than one day between games in a series, and the NBA does it ALL THE TIME.

it's because of sponsors, and their contract with ABC. ABC wants better ratings. Sunday = better ratings.
|
its sort of their contract with ABC, its sort of the fact that for the most part, sunday tuesday thursdays are the days throughout the entire year that basketball is televised nationally.

Celtics assistant coach Tom Thibodeau who has a huge impact on the team is supposedly leaving after the finals to pursue a head coaching job with the Chicago Bulls. Hopefully this distraction in the locker room will give an edge to the Lakers.

Bulls checklist:
1. Cap space = check 2. Coach = check 3. Free agent = pending 4. ... 5. Profit?
