팬택 이윤열이 다시 한 번 감격스런 결승 진출의 기쁨을 맛봤다. 2005년 초 아이옵스 스타리그 결승에 진출한 뒤 약 1년 반 만이다. 우승 이후 본선 탈락, 예선에서 헤메면서 '이제는 더이상 천재가 아니다'라는 비판까지 받았던 이윤열이다. 그러나 오늘은 완벽함이란 무엇인지, 왜 그가 천재로 불리우는지 경기를 통해 절절히 느낄 수 있었다.
Lee Yoonyeol of Pantech, once again, delighted in the joy of advancing to finals. Roughly a year and a half has passed since he made it to the finals in IOPS Starleague early in the year of 2005. As the champion, Lee Yoonyeol was eliminated in the following league, then roved among preliminaries with criticisms "a Prodigy no more". However, today we were able to fully grasp the concept of perfectionism, and why he is called "The Prodigy" through these matches.
-1년만에 결승 진출인데.
-It's your finals in a year.
▶기쁘지만 한번 더 참고 싶다. 이 기쁨은 우승한 뒤에 마음껏 누리고 싶다. 오늘 경기는 정말 내 플레이가 제대로 나왔다.
▶I am very happy, but I want to suppress it one more time. I want to enjoy this happiness to its full extent after winning the league. Today's matches performed my gameplay to its full potential.
-첫 세트는 빌드오더가 거의 같았다.
-Your build order in the first set was almost identical(to the opponent).
▶그 맵은 더블커맨드가 정석이다. 리플레이를 봤는데 미세하게 차이가 나더라. 초반 빌드오더는 내가 유리했다. 그 맵에서 연습을 할수록 초반 공략보다 중후반을 바라보고 운영하는 것이 좋았다.
▶Double command is the constituting build in that map. I watched the replay and found minute differences. Early build order status was in my favor.(*1) As the practices piled up in that map, macro-managing for the mid-late game was more beneficial then to aim for the early game attacks.
-두번째 세트는 컨트롤이 빛났다.
-Your micro-controls in second set were scintillating.
▶연습때 뚫은 경험이 있었다. 하지만 막힌 경우도 있었다. 예상외로 상대 배럭이 전진해서 건설돼 있었고, 상대가 조금은 당황한 듯도 싶었다. 상대의 빌드오더는 8배럭을 막는 것인데 내 빌드오더는 7배럭이었다. 조금 더 빠르다.
▶I successfully penetrated it in practices. But, there were also times when I was denied. Fortunately(but unexpectedly), the opponent's barrack was built close to the entrance, and he seemed a bit disoriented also. The opponent's build order is meant to deny the proxy 8 barrack; mine was 7. It's slightly more fast.
-세번째 세트에서 승리를 예감했을 때는.
-The moment you assured yourself of victory at the third set.
▶정말 긴장되는 경기였다. 스타포트에 스캔을 했을 때 레이스를 조합하는가 했지만 그 순간 언덕에 탱크 4기가 드롭됐다. 그 때문에 당황을 했다. 잘 막은게 승인이다. 막으면 유리하다는 생각에 방어에 매달렸고, 한 순간의 틈을 놓치지 않고 드롭십을 이끌고 역러시를 했을 때다.
▶It really was a nerve breaking match. When I scanned the starport, I thought if he was adding Wraiths to the mix, but at that precise moment, four tanks were dropped on the hill(of my front yard expansion). I was perturbed. Bearing the attack earned me the set. Thinking I will have the advantage if I endure it, I focused on defense. The very precise moment when I felt a tiny gap leering its light, and immediately countered with dropship, I assured myself of the victory.
-3대0 승리를 예상했나.
-Did you expect to win by 3:0.
▶4세트를 가장 많이 준비했다. 제일 자신이 없었기 때문이다. 그런데 3대0으로 이길 줄은 몰랐다. 이병민은 쉬운 상대가 아니다. 1~2세트는 잡을 자신이 있었지만 3대0 승리는 예상 못 했다.
▶I prepared fourth set the most. It was the most distressing set of them all. But, I never thought I would win by 3:0. Lee Byungmin is not an easy foe. I was confident enough to earn the first and/or second set, but did not expect to win by a score of 3:0.
-골드마우스가 눈앞으로 다가왔다.
-The Golden Mouse is right in front of your eyes.
▶임요환, 최연성, 박성준이 골드마우스에 도전할 때 PC방에서 이를 갈았다. '아직 스타리그도 못 올라갔는데 저 기회를 잡을 수 있을까'라는 생각도 했다. 이번 기회를 놓치고 싶지 않다. 꼭 타서 집에 보관하고 싶다. 평생토록.
▶In PCbangs(*2), I agonized in grinding pain when Lim Yohwan, Choi Yunsung, and Park Sungjoon were challenging the Golden Mouse. I thought 'Will I be able to earn that chance; I have not even made it to the Starleague'. I do not want to let this chance go to waste. I want to get it, and secure it; for the rest of my life.

-You have surely proclaimed your return.
▶모든 사람들이 인정할 때까지는 부활했다고 생각하지 않겠다. 팬이든 팬이 아니든 누구나 '이윤열이 최고다'라는 생각을 할때까지 하겠다.
▶I will not let myself to think that I have come back until everyone admits I have. Let they be fans or not, I will push myself to the point where everyone will think "Lee Yoonyeol is the best'.
-온게임넷 100전 기록을 세우며 승리까지 했다.
-You have achieved your 100th match in Ongamenet, and won it.
▶전혀 몰랐다. MBC게임에서는 많은 경기를 했지만 온게임넷에는 상대적으로 전적이 적었다.
▶I had no idea. I had many matches in MBCgame, but had relatively fewer records in Ongamenet.
-연습 상대가 많았다던데.
-It is said you had many practice partners.
▶이영호, 김성진, 김명수, 나도현, 김상우가 도와줬다. 다른 팀에서는 염보성과 안상원이 했다. 특히 안상원이 정말 많이 도와줬다. 고맙다.

▶오영종과 붙고 싶다. 임요환의 골드마우스 획득을 무너뜨린 선수인데다가 가을의전설을 막고 싶은 생각이 굴뚝같다. So1 스타리그 결승전을 보면서 임요환의 우승을 응원했는데 그를 막는 모습을 보면서 붙고 싶은 열의가 불타올랐다. 최근에 오영종과 연습을 많이 하면서 잘한다는 것을 느꼈다. 꼭 결승에서 붙고 싶다. 이기고 싶은 욕망이 끓어오른다. 가을의 전설이라는 징크스가 얼마나 센지 겪어보겠다. 이미 가을은 지났고, 난 추울때 잘한다(웃음).
▶I want to face Oh Youngjong. Not only is he the one who denied Lim Yohwan from acquiring the Golden Mouse, but I have this tremendous eagerness to deny the Autumn's Legend. I rooted for Lim Yohwan in So1 Starleague finals, but having seen Oh Youngjong denying him, the avidity to fight him inflamed. Through many recent practices with Oh Youngjong, I felt he is an exceptional player. I really want to fight him in the finals. This avarice to win is intensifying(this very moment). I want to suffer how potent this jinx labeled Autumn's Legend is. Autumn has passed. I am better when it's cold.(Smile)

“오영종 선수가 결승상대였으면 좋겠다. 지난해 임요환 선수가 골든마우스에 도전할 때 그 상대가 오영종 선수였다. 그 경기를 보면서 가슴이 떨렸다. 그 경기에서 임요환 선수가 승리하면 골든마우스를 가져가는 동시에 ‘임요환의 시대’가 올 것이라고 생각했다. 우승은 놓치긴 했지만 0-2에서 2-2까지 만회하는 모습을 보고 대단하다는 생각이 든 반면 아쉽다는 생각도 들었다.
그동안 경기를 하면서 친해지기도 했고 서로 연습도 도와주면서 생각했는데 오영종 선수는 잘하기도 하지만 욕망미 강하다는 것을 느꼈다. 언제나 오영종 선수에게 결승에서 보자고 이야기했다. 그리고 가을 전설의 힘이 얼마나 강한지 느껴보고 싶다”

I had thought Lim Yohwan would win the league and earn the Golden Mouse, and thus the "Era of Lim Yohwan" would once again embark. Although, I witnessed him coming back from 0-2 to 2-2, and thought he was magnificent, he did not win the league and I felt at a loss.
I became a close acquaintance with Oh Youngjong while helping each other out in practices; He is an exceptional player no doubt, but also I felt that he has this extreme desire to win. I always told him that we should meet in the finals. And, I want to experience for myself how strong the power of Autumn's Legend is."

“슈퍼파이트 기자회견 때도 이야기했다시피 지금은 내 인생의 중요한 순간이다. 이 기회를 놓칠 수 없다. 그리고 놓치고 싶지 않다. 최선을 다한 경기가 무엇인지 느낄 수 있을 정도로 노력하겠다”
"As I have said it in Superfight press conference, now is the most important period of time in my life. I can't miss this chance. And, I don't want to miss this chance. I will strive to the point where I can instinctively feel what a match, that has been played to the very limit, is."

Early build order status was in my favor.(*1) - As you have seen in the first set, the early build order in Alkanoid for both players is almost identical. However, Lee Yoonyeol says there were slight differences and he had a little advantage. This result is derived from the mining controls of workers in the early game. I am not sure whether this topic has been discussed in TL, but to those who are not aware of it, the progamers control their workers to mine minerals more quickly by coordination of minimizing the distance/time the worker needs to get to a lump of mineral. For example, when multiple scvs are ordered to mine lumps of mineral there are incidences where scvs hold still for a short amount of time; usually because another scv started to mine while the previous one was bringing back the mineral to the command center, and is looking for a new empty mineral to mine. There are also many other cases, often very minute, when scv haults for a split second. And, progamers manually control to avoid these standstills. Just to be more obvious, I am not talking about splitting 4 worker in the beginning, or rallying the cc for next worker to a close mineral. We all do that. The progamers micro-control the workers until he no longer can/will, or where the effect becomes negligible. Basically, when there isn't a battle to be fought(requiring excessive micro-control), the progamers are controlling their workers to mine! And, the advantage that Lee Yoonyeol is talking about is resulted from that worker control. (Not necessarily saying that Goodfriend did not perform the same control, but Nada was more meticulous.) This is somewhat a spoiler to some of you because witnessing the gamer's worker control in the vods for the first time without previously knowing it, is just jaw-dropping, like "Did he just do that on purpose???".

. Midas just doesn't have anything spectacular, in my opinion. Nada is an ex-best player in the world, and Anytime won the first OSL he participated in, defeating Boxer of all people. As for Midas... 
. Well who knows, maybe Midas will make this OSL finals his spectacular moment in progaming
