Does anyone here remember his ESET tournament games a few years back? He was a great player then and now that I have come back to SC2 he seems to be doing better than ever!

I watched all of his group stage games at HSC and he advanced, but I missed the series against FireCake, so I feel responsible for him dropping out of the tournament. I hope I'm not under the influence of some curse.

Wow, so you are the reason Showtime lost? Shame on you, time to raise the forks!
No worries losing against Firecake is absolutely no shame at the moment, he might be the most hated player but also he's definetely one of the best Zergs in Lotv right now.

Do you mean the tournament that was casted by Homerj where the final rounds were delayed by over a year? Didn't follow that one cuz i don't really like Homerj and ever since Honor and Homerj parted away i never watched a game casted by him. So i dunno if the name was ESET, but i'm quiete sure Showtime, Heromarine and Golden played in that one.

Showtime is indeed a great player for quiete a while now and hopefully he will win some trophies outside of Germany with his new team.

Yes, the tournaments were hosted by HomerJ. I can understand why you dislike him, I was also upset about the Honor incident. As far as I remember it was the 2013 ESET tournament that was postponed a lot.

During 2012 Winter Masters tournament ShoWTimE was a member of the HomerJ community/forum, so it was always great to see him play against the already established pros in the qualification tournaments. The community would sign up to tournaments and we were getting knocked out quite early obviously, but ShoWTimE was the "community champion" you could root for afterwards on stream.

Edit: I just looked it up. The 2013 main tournament took place in august of 2014 according to Liquidpedia, haha. I didn't even know that until now, I stopped following SC2 at the end of 2013.

It was even hosted by Homerj - how surprising...

Well some David vs Goliath action is always nice and its great to see that Showtime belongs to the best players (at least in the foreign scene) now.
I didn't follow the Sc2 scene that closely until 2013/14 and just saw some youtube videos from Honor and Homerj but never could stand his casts (but Honor is incredible). But since you know theese two i have to ask if you remember the best german sc2 caster ever- Mort (alias "Ich bau ne EMMA")?

I didn't watch Mori that often. I remember him casting a couple of online tournaments, but can't remember that much. What did he mean with EMMA? ^^ It is a bit off topic though - is that alright on TL or should one rather use PM?

ShoWTimE will play at the DH Leipzig! :D
Not a single Korean player... It will be exciting!
But I think Serral, FireCake, Snute and maybe Marinelord will be hard opponents.
But if he improved his PvZ play, we maybe see his first DH title, I think it's possible!
And hey, It's in Germany, so he has the home advantage and the audience will get crazy if he plays good :D

Hype! But tbh it would be a little more exiting with a few more korean players, he showed amazing games against some of the better Koreans in lotv. Even if he lost against Parting at Dreamhack the series was absolute great and Showtime earned some respect from Parting. But nowadays Marinelord is the final boss.
Anyway it will be great regardless, he has good chances for a good run and is a candidat for the title.

The game vs. Guru was.. let's say weird, from both sides :D I was really worired about such a PvZ against Violet because he's a pretty solid player but hell yea, ShoWTimE rekt him ^^ Hyped for the semi, I think he has a good chance to get into the final!

Great games against Violet Finally he seems to show his full potential again, MaSa is in a pretty good form too, though. Will be a hard match, but definitely he has the chance to do it.
And I liked his mindset.

When he is without any doubts about his builds/fights he is one of the best foreigners

Congrats ShoWTimE
You "talked big" and you delivered, must be a very good feeling for you right now You deserve it!
Finals for me were very entertaining and after Game 1 and at the Proxy DarkShrine I was really nervous for you. But everything went fine. The unpredictability in your game is a thing you need to win titles if you ask me. Game 3 was the most impressive for me, really freaked out because of that FF Block and the destructible rocks right after.

hi showtime grats for the win over nerchio it was glorious ,,
few things i would like to say to you since i watched most of your televised games since day1

constructive criticism
so often in the past i was frustrated about your indecisiveness in certain games and also the missing killer instinct like here in 2 games vs zergs, one of them was game 2 vs guru ,,
even if you are the better player overall ( when you refer to alligulac and head to head score ) you lose to often because of that ,sitting back doing nothing and let the other player come back in to the game ore giving him a advantage,,
i understand that when you win a decisive battle that you often dont want to let your advantage go away by some attack that killes your shieldless army ,but often you would have just won ,,and that following attack dont have to be lethal if it doesnt work ore getting inefficient go back,,ore just do some harass ore denying/delaying enemy expansions,,
occupy and stress your opponent a bit more

generell, in certain games when you have a bunch off energyless phenix waiting next to a 3 ore 4 zerg base to recover some energy take every single ship and attack move them to every other non hostile map positions to kill some random overlords after that business as usual ,, in some matches where you did miss some early overlords this tactic as you must know would be nice but maybe just 1 time

next is your lategame harassment with a dt/zealot mix ,,it happends in some games that your attack ( after the opponent has solidified his detection defense ) is not cost effectiv anymore and you should just using zealots not dt´s ore fewer dt´s ,,
also some times you miss unnecessarily hidden bases ,, in late game why not have at least 1 zealot/probe/phenix what ever to check all possible locations more often,, but i think that is something in generell what the sc1 players do better than the sc2 players

what you realy should work on is your defensiv building placements on your 4 ore 5 base where you just have a few buildings,, also in this tournament in some games your fourth ore fifth base have had poorly anti runby/runbi/runbei ?^^ building placements ,,,2,3 pylons/canons maybe a gateway could block better and decrease attack space ore surface area,,,enemy units get to fast to the key structures/units,, this better placement is so easy to implement and could safed you lot of damage

also building maybe 1,2 canons more on some fifht/six,, bases when you have plenty of money and being maxed out would be better in some situations
what i did like a lot was your games vs violet/masa ,, killer instincts and unpredictability in builds,, that is part of what wins you tournaments, and was missing so often in the past,,,, you can still be working on your balancing in how many games should i go early allin/semi all in tech build what ever ,, for example those adept/phenix pushes,, naturally doing this to often is bad same as doing it to rarely ,, i would asume overall when you play 100 games the percentage of games where you should do more agressiv builds could be a bit higher ,,just watch your win percentage in those games vs slower games,,
also i think most pro´s you play against think that you still play to conservative passiv and that you "play the map" a bit more than the average pro ,,so i would abuse that a bit more
finaly be aware of women sex is ok but love will mess up your skill ^^ ,love is overrated and you have all your life for that ,,but good starcraft years before getting to old you have only a few
best of luck in the future

Woah, was starting to worry there after Game 4. But very nice that you came back in Game 5, maybe Polt is the hardest opponent to do so in such a situation, he really seemed to have all the momentum.
Congrats, definitely will watch the next two days to come!
Good luck for the rest of the tournament!

I'm looking forward to the WCS Playoffs. I think ShoWTimE can advance from this group if he prepares well for PvP. ByuN might be too strong for him. I'm hoping for ShoWTime > Dear, ByuN > ShowTimE, Dear > viOlet, ShoWTimE > Dear. It's not going to be easy, but I have faith.

Haha, seems I was way too pessimistic. Great games against Byun. Congratz! A well deserved win.

Ok... Alright... I'm done with Blizzcon... 2-0 vs. ByuN, maybe THE favourite of Blizzcon is just so crazy.

Well done Showtime, wish you the best for the rest of the tournament
Unrelated to your recent win I would love to hear your thoughts about a theory of mine:
In the past you have frequently played against Heromarine. It feels as if your matches mostly went pretty evenly. He is always proud to say he practices so very little (not sure if true), so I always theorized that he had Korean level potential if he just practiced very hard. What are your thoughts on that?

Super high level play from Showtime, GGs!
Maru and Serral are probably top 5.

How will showtime prepare for this match against Elazer? There are some offline choices and also some online choices?
He could practice with Nerchio, who is probably still around. But would Nerchio help him if Showtime plays against one of his countrymans. Is Nerchio taking the opportuniry for good practice or is Nerchio a patriot? Also Elazer took away Nerchios spot for the Global Finals. So maybe Nerchio wants revenge?

probably there are also some other Zergs like Snute, True, Solar or Violet around.

Another alternative would be to practice with Dark, who would also benefit of PvZ practice as Dark will face Neeb. Dark is probably the best choice for practice. But only until the semifinals, when both would face each other. Dark would know the gamestyle of Showtime unless Showtime or Dark would pratice an alternative strategy and keep the ace in the hole.

The least alternatives would be to practice on either EU or NA server. He might find some good european Zergs, but would have to play with lag or he would just ladder on the NA server.

Nevertheless he should try to find a practice partner, as his potential Zerg opponent Dark might have enough korean Protoss around to practice with.
Also Showtime might give Neeb some tips for PvZ and than rely on his strong PvP.

What do you think how Showtime will practice for the upcoming matches?

Nerchio and Elazer are friends, so I don't think Nerchio will help Showtime.

Snute on the other hand might help him for sure!
Maru and Serral are probably top 5.

I am not suprise at all. He is not in good form this year. The only chance for him to go to blizzcon is to win WCS circuit.

it was so damn close so the loss is really painful to stomach, but it feels incredibly good to see ShoWTime play so well again.

Definitely a strong performance despite the loss. Maybe going into WCS Montreal, he can finally get some momentum this year.

You can do it ShoWTimE, you can make it to Blizzcon, your form seems to be rising again, even though maybe the results doesn´t look like it. Don´t get depressed. Get good training in Korea and become even stronger. And always remember that every Pro-Player, even the best, have a bad Season/Mappool/Whatever from time to time. Don´t let it get to you! You´re still the best Protoss in Europe and the Beast is still in you, too

ShoWTimE made it to the finals of WCS Leipzig 2018. He beat Neeb 3:2 in a close series in the semifinals.
Stopped watching ESL content in 2022 when the company was acquired by Savvy Gaming Group. Also object to sponsorships by the U.S. Air Force. Thanks for the lively discussions about sportswashing. StarCraft II is not for me anymore.

Really nice showing in Leipzig Beating Neeb! That´s quite a feat, I think ony Special beat him last year offline ? At least at WCS. It´s nice to see you back in form again, or maybe just getting the results again. Although i was a bit worried that you might lose vs. Namshar for the first time. Keep up the good work, and don´t think too much about the loss in the finals. Serral is a monster and finally seems to transfer his form to the offline events. And i have the feeling Zerg is a bit OP when they are playing without mistakes, like Serral.
Good luck, great start of the year

Every year I am a bigger Showtime fan. His consistency is mind-boggling.

He is not the flashy player, but since many years now he is very good. And still earthed.

Showtime is one of the players I would like to have a beer with, ask some questions and then just listen to what he says.

good showing today. he played so well. nyduses are just really hard to play around. i don't know what he could have done better. in the first 2 games he couldn't have feasible gotten storm to deal with the locusts and in game 5 when he did, they just did not prove to be a reliable and viable source of aoe considering how long it takes to charge up high templars. i think he did the best job of any protoss, korean or not, to preemptively deal with nyduses with good scouting and army movement. and it still seemed like zerg had an easy time popping up new ones. and like with maru mine drops, it doesn't matter the 15/16 you defend perfectly. it's the 1/16 that gets away from you.

Yeah he played so bloody well, plus a player whose style I tend to prefer watching over that of other Protoss.

I can’t really think of a higher compliment than that he played how Stats played, and better than Stats did at this particular tournament.

the man just took out byun and is once again tossing his hat in the ring as the best protoss in the world, especially in a time when PvT seems terran favored. Go Tobias!!
