I really like that picture of her at the top, I dont' really know why but it's very different and nice, just an fantastic angle/expressioin. | ||

Scarlett has actually spent most of her career playing the same metagame...and winning. Obviously with the buffs all zergs are struggling a bit to adjust, not just Scarlett. But that doesn't fully explain why Scarlett looked so off her game. At some point she mustve thought "this is definitely not working with muta ling bane, its just too many widowmines" so she decided to switch into ultralisks / infestors, but by the time they came out iaguz was already all over with drops forcing her back to defend, as well as pushing with two armies on side bases. I went back and rewatched g1 to try and see where it went wrong for her. Both players open fairly greedy but not extremely, but what's interesting is iaguz doesn't build any hellions. He leaves scarlett untouched for 10 mins and by 11 mins Scarlett Creep Spread™ is already almost halfway up the map. At 10 mins iaguz drops 4(!) mines in one of her bases, but his poor placement has his mines hitting a queen, overlord, and an egg for christ's sake. It looks like he gets maybe 2-3 drones. Basically Scarlett has done nothing special and iaguz has already conceded the early game advantage. In the past, any nerd foolish enough to leave Scarlett alone for 13 mins to creep up half the map in a zvt is basically already dead. But then at 12min Scarlett starts her hive, which is incredibly early. As a consequence, when iaguz moves out at 13mins he already has a 20 supply advantage, which is always bad news in zvt. He attacks the 4th but scarlett's mutas are out of position harassing his base, her units are all out of position, her macro hatch is just finishing, her hive is still being completed, and she's significantly down in army supply. By the time her units arrive at the 4th, it's already dead. She's basically lost her 4th for free, a massive blow. It's inexplicable but it's almost as if scarlett is caught by surprise by a terran attacking her 4th at the 13 min mark. Iaguz then continues to push deep onto creep, overcommits, and loses his whole army when scarlett has finally managed to rally out some ultras. Scarlett now has a 40 supply advantage but she sits at home instead of trying to do some damage, and iaguz is able to quickly rebuild his army with his strong 4-base vs 4-base economy. Scarlett still has a chance but she takes a bad engagement on a ramp with her mass ultras and walks her infestors into a marine firing line and despite a valiant fightback from scarlett it's over after a few more minutes. It's basically down to decisionmaking I think. Scarlett actually had a lead twice in that game but lost it both times. The first time she took a big risk on a fast hive and wasn't ready for iaguz's push on her 4th and lost it for free. But iaguz gave her a second chance when he lost his army on creep, but scarlett just sat back and waited when she had the army advantage and iaguz had the economic advantage and that let him get back in the game. Afterward, iaguz looks more surprised than anything that he's actually beaten scarlett in a straight up macro game. Big credit to him, I think he's surprised everyone by showing he can play a good macro game that's almost as impressive as his beard, but I know scarlett is capable of much better than that. Last year Scarlett was kicking ass at WCS even when widow mines were also at full strength and terrans were winning everything in sight. Scarlett has already shown she knows how to play and win in a terran-favoured metagame. She will need to bring a much better game than she showed against Iaguz to beat Heart. I hope she can, and I think she can :) | ||
