In my experience: 1) It's a big economic commitment in the early game, especially since zerg loses drones to make buildings, and at that point in the game you don't yet have a queen to inject, so you can't outproduce workers compared to Z or P. 2) Just because you drone scout doesn't mean you'll see anything, especially on a bigger map. It's easy to miss a pylon or a barracks since they can be placed anywhere on the map. 3) Similar to #1, minerals matter a lot to early game Z. All their early core buildings/units/tech relies only on minerals (drones, zerglings, queens, spine/spore crawlers, spawning pool, roach warren, evo chambers). In other words, Z can go longer than any other race subsisting on JUST minerals, and the longer they can mine minerals, the better, so drones mining minerals in the early game is very important. | ||

This is true but I always thought drone scouting is the best on 2 player maps. If you see your opponent goes standard you can easily go three hatch before pool. And if he cheeses you can prepare accordingly. | ||
