People who come over to a fanclub for the sole sake of hating on a person are loathsome human beings.

LS might be a douche for all I know, I haven't followed him very closely, but none deserves this kind of treatment. He was invited to a tournament, so wtf was he supposed to do? Turn it down!? How on earth are lesser experienced players ever gonna get anywhere in this sort of climate?

He seems to be really upset about his performance (and probably all the hate he's been getting) and ends up deleting his shit. Then people jump on this and goes on reddit and other places to flame the shit out of him calling him a loser etcetc. Who the fuck do these people think they are? It's a complete and utter disgrace.

I'm starting to lose the little faith I had over this community. Influental pillars of the community (like iNcontroL) can no longer present moderate criticism towards another player (directing towards the post he made at the SotG thread, not from the podcast, that criticism was towards Day[9] as far as I'm concerned) without becoming an involuntary fuel for the community's hatemachine.

Again, LS might be an arrogant fool and a dramaqueen who deleted everything he had just to get sympathy and attention, but there is no way most of the hating assholes would have any idea if this is the case or not.

If you feel such a need to hate on someone over the internet, tell it to them when they are doing good, don't kick them while they are down, it's not very nice....

/rant

Disclaimer: I'm not saying LS's supposed attitude haven't contributed at all to what he is recieving now, but people should be able to be different and still be met with a certain amount of respect.

Lastly, a question I got a lot over twitter was will we be seeing you compete in more Korean tournaments such as the Korean Weekly, and although you've said you have no desire to return to the US full time, do you see yourself competing at any foreign events in 2012?

LastShadow: I don't see myself competing in any foreign Tournaments. It's not wise for sponsors to send players toe events they can't guarantee at least a top 4 finish over 90% of the time with certainty, that's a waste of money and if a team/sponsor was supporting me I wouldn't want to waste their money when people like MVP, Nestea, MMA, etc exist and go to events. Additionally one might argue that I could try for the Code A seed through MLG.
That's so morally fucked up I can't even imagine why someone would aim to knowingly steal a seed from a Korean that probably deserves it more than you. If I deserve Code A, I will win through the qualifiers, I shouldn't obtain it through silly invites or online tournaments, that's dishonourable and pathetic compared to what the ancestor game bw set as a standard for us. I'll play in show matches if requested/I get invited to, but that's about the extent of it. If I do happen to join a team that is in GSTL or KSL or whatever, then I will play there too.

Well there ya go!

I'm not the biggest fan of LS (I actually have a bit of a grudge against him), but this quote seems to hit a little below the belt.
First of all, he said he doesn't see himself competing in any foreign tournaments....which is just a prediction....and those things are sometimes wrong....especially 3 months after the fact....
Second, he isn't wasting the sponsors money. As this is an invitational, I'm sure the tournament provided for his travel expenses, or most at least, and of course, he has the guaranteed $500.
Also there is no chance of gaining a Code S spot or anything of that nature (as far as I know???) so the most of the quote is not even relevant.

I hope he recovers from whatever was wrong with him, and shows some better games in future tournaments.

Hey guys,

I fall into that hazy category here with regards to LastShadow. I heard about this guy about a year ago when he exclaimed that he would be practising and living in Korea full-time. I can totally understand why someone hoping to reach the top would want to live and practice in Korea, especially someone who had previous Brood War experience. That was essentially the last I heard of him though, and, at that time I wondered to myself, how is this guy in his early 20s supporting himself in this endeavour...

Most of the foreigners who end up in Korea deserve it; Jinro (top 4 GSL), HuK (top 8 GSL), Naniwa (top 8 GSL), Sase just to name a few. Even MajOr who had some personal issues and never truly broke the scene has showed some promise from his practice time in Korea. Most of these guys EARNED their spot in Korea and the respect of the Korean teams as well. It seems like LastShadow has been spoiled with his opportunity to practice SC2 full-time. The whole "I don't see myself competing in any foreign tournaments." seems a bit conceded to me and disrespectful to the foreign community and fanbase.

What I'm trying to point out is that he's alienating the fanbase that would care about him the most, not through attending tournaments, but rather making comments about how irrelevant the foreign scene is in SC2. Koreans are the best at SC2, but it's not the domination we saw in Brood War. Unfortunately, until LastShadow starts respecting his North American fanbase and foreign community, I don't believe that he can truly succeed in Code A. The foreign tournaments that he doesn't want to focus on would provide him with the necessary stage experience and give him a chance to actually get paid for playing this game.

I'm not trying to offend any fans, I just hope that LastShadow comes across this...
Rooting for SC in general... but especially those Canucks.

Man......... real talk hope you aren't thinking about quitting or anything like that...

YOU HAD A RIDICULOUS GROUP, Everyone knows how you play because you told everyone....THE GUYS YOU PLAYED WERE ON ANOTHER LEVEL purely on an experience aspect nothing skill wise. I was really dissapointed that you ff a tournament game, you will most likely never be invited ever again because people don't forget stuff like that.

With all that said man you and one of your friends were an absolute douches to me at MLG Colombus and called me a diamond noob and harassed me while I was playing my first warmup game to get off the computer. The reason I brought this up is, I am not one of yours fans, I do not particularly like you ( dont really dislike you)... so this is a unbiased unfanboy like statement.
You are good at starcraft 2, you are innovative, you are living the dreams most people want so bad but would never admit it... you are an an inspiration to tons of people..... YOU. If you really really really want what you tell people you want, to be a pro and to do this ... you need to get over this and move on and and write another script. Idra didn't just run away when Huk beat him with hallucinated vr's ... People make mistakes and successful people overcome them. something about you tells me that you are a successful person. Good Luck if you want it you gotta take some bunches in the face to get there.

Does it really mean "machine" in Korean or did you rather mean that's how they transcribe it from English ? I'd be surprised if they had to borrow a foreign word to say that, especially considering there are few sinograms with that very meaning.

On another note, if Lastshadow lengthened his fingers playing BW, doesn't it imply his keyboard hand (probably left) is longer ? I don't assume you could stretch fingers a lot handling a mouse.

He means that if you type ajtls with your keyboard set to Korean, it will type the Korean word for machine. In BW I believe you could not use Korean characters in your ID, so many Koreans had names like this.

You haven't read a single word I wrote, have you ?

In case that's what bugs you, 머신 reads "meoshin". I'm wondering if he wanted to write an "a" and made a typo though.

"meo" in KR arguably pronounces closer to the "ma" in machine than "ma" in KR ("mah")

Originally I made this post for the SoTG thread but I felt it was off-topic and a bit too long so I'll put it here. Some of you here might know me from the stream etc. The events of this weekend have turned me into more of an anti-fan of LS and made me really think about his time in Korea.

The following may not be 100% true and I am more than open to correction from LS or anyone else more in the know. A lot of what is written is based off my recollection but there should be twitch vods for a large portion of what is discussed.

The fact that people still go on about the hacking is unjustified.

However the BM bit is, as someone who has followed LS since his start in Korea, 100% true. The most significant things that LS has done in Korea are:

1) The GOM house controversy. While we don't know exactly what happened in the house, LS left after a major (hehe) falling out with Juan and the Desrow incident. Also various other non-directed but heavily implied complaints about LS (I remember he was vs'ing Shuffle on stream and Shuffle said 'if only you had social skills" or something to that effect, I think Khaldor made some rather pointed posts on Twitter about the state of the GOM house). LS cites it being a bad practice environment, which Naniwa and SaSe have corroborated as well but there is much more to it than that I would think, as LS then had to rent out some college dorm or something for a few weeks and was moving around a bit, hardly a good idea for practice. LS had no practice house to go to, like Nani and SaSe. The GOM house seems to be comfortable enough, stable, safe and with good equipment, from a practical perspective there was no reason to leave it really.

2) Conduct on ladder. I'm not some uptight guy who requires players to gg gl hf and gg at the end of games before I consider them human beings but LS isn't exactly the nicest guy on ladder sometimes. He tries to wave it off as "oh I'm insulting his play, I don't hate the player at all, nono". An incident that sticks out in my head is playing vs START, apparently an FXO trainee, on ladder at some ridiculous time of the morning where it appeared that START was the only guy playing in LS's MMR bracket. Anyway after a few games, START gives out about LS's propensity to all-in (which is 100% true :D) and LS bm's the hell out of him, saying that he'll never make it as a progamer and to go and cry to Slog. There are various other incidences of it, I'm sure regular stream viewers can attest to.

3) Joining and getting kicked out of Shield (I'm 99% sure he is out). So in his second official game playing for Shield, vs the Taiwanese team Spider, LS loses and then proceeds to bm the hell out of his opponent (in Korean) and leaves with no gg. This was streamed in front of ~8000 people I think, watching Hui's stream as well as the people watching on LS's stream. Anyway later on some other drama occurred, involving something to do with account sharing and BM'ing, I never got the full story because it was never really given. LS refuses to apologize iirc to one of the shield clan leaders Scar. Shield brings the clanwar up again, things happen, suddenly LS is out of Shield.

I'm sure there is some other stuff, like his general disposition to other foreigners, calling them all bad, they don't know what their doing etc, very IdrA-esque in many ways. He usually always has an excuse for losing or playing bad, be it sickness or lag (loses in Playhem to random mid/high masters players, blames lag in a tourney dominated by koreans playing from Korea, also always using a smurf that up until a few weeks ago had no rank). He also talks himself up enormously, being GM with zerg and terran (no evidence of this, the accusations of Juan playing on the account as well), saying that he plays tons, yet never really having that much games played on all the accounts he has used in Korea and otherwise. I remember someone was asking about ForGG's hotkeys on stream and LS said "oh yeah I told him to stop hotkeying his CC's like that, its bad", to probably one of the most mechanically sound SC2 players out there. "I have ~300eapm" is a common line as well despite SC2gears only putting it at 130, he always cites a mysterious korean sc2gears giving that number like program which he has never shown or linked to. The blatant mislabeling of barcode players in his replay packs. Leaving the Red Bull LAN early is just a classical example of just giving up (@ Playhem whenever he is matched up vs say Juan or a good Korean he'll either give up or play sub par. There was a time where he beat Tails with mech on Entombed though, that was pretty sick).

Obviously LS has done really great stuff for the community, his strategy vlogs are an amazing resource, he is really open to talking to fans/players on skype and in chat, helping them out with questions etc. His replay packs are one of the best places to get a glimpse at really high level Korean ladder play. His insistence on staying in Korea is also admirable. Those are the reasons that I was a fan.

His shenanigans at the RBL this weekend were reprehensible as well as slightly hypocritical, given his line about not attending foreign tournies and focusing on GSL, it being the Code A qualifier as well. Obviously it kind of makes sense as it was a free $500 instead of being knocked out in the qualifiers. He seriously undermined Day9 by just disappearing. I don't think anyone was expecting LS to make it out of the group of death but simply disappearing with no explanations is unacceptable, no matter how sick LS was (not very if he traveled back the next day). It was insulting to someone who clearly believes a lot in him and probably caused quite a headache for the tourney organizers. LS will never ever be invited to any LAN ever again due to this, unless he makes it to Code S and people have to deal with his issues, much in the fashion of Stephano or IdrA. It also makes him completely unemployable for any team, Korean or not. What sort of team would pick up a player with zero relevant results and an attitude such as that displayed last weekend?

LS clearly has potential to be a great player but his actions and demanour are so terrible sometimes that it precludes him from making connections in the scene or progressing as a player. Good luck in the future, I hope you can sort yourself out.

@Klonere I fully agree, he needs to pipe down and let his play do the talking. Also the fact that he wants other people to get his acc into GM. He has some pretty big issues..

@Klonere I hope LastShadow responds to all of this in full, it would probably do a lot to gain some legitimacy back. I don't know a lot of the guy's history, he seems like he's really talented, but has a storm cloud following him because of some definite bad manners towards other players.

I play Terran and I would really enjoy following another talented NA player who has such a high understanding of the game from what I've seen in his vlogs (please do more!), but it's really depressing to know that his own mentality could be destroying any chance of being as good as he could be.

Despite ls's character flaws, ls is a strategic genius, and I think the fact that he's willing to share that with the community through his vlogs alone is enough to make me an ls fan. I also can't deny his dedication to staying in Korea to practice, despite all the illnesses he's been faced with recently. Maybe he doesn't play well with others and maybe his aversion to foreigners and foreign teams is slightly disturbing (I don't think being a foreigner is nearly so bad in SC2 as it was in Brood War, but the fact remains that the NA ladder is pathetic compared to Korea's so it's at least somewhat understandable), but still, sign me up.

To be honest, I was really sad when I saw the groups for for the RBBG: LS was in the worst group possible, and I really wanted to see him win whole thing, but ST_PartinG (quite possibly the best PvTer in the world), ST_Squirtle (2nd in GSL not too bad, taking IM_Mvp to a 7th game even better), and Liquid'Ret (Best foreigner zerg hands down)? I bet money that lastshadow could have made it out of any other group, but he drew the shortest straw - these three players have huge amounts of tournament experience.

There was so much working against lastshadow in this tournament - the recent day9 dailies about him (three different ones, I think) probably didn't help much, as lastshadow's greatest strength was his anonymity. He has also had so many hurdles to overcome recently, I know he spent months in a row barely practicing because of his hand.

It just wasn't lastshadow's tournament this time, but give it some time - lastshadow can make it to code A easily, especially when you consider that every korean at the RBBG was Code S.

Don't give up, lastshadow! Can't wait to see you in Code S GSL!

Incidentally, add me to the list. Somewhere near the top :D
why can't i remember the last time I watched an important game that didn't have a zerg in it?
