Life always gets picked last. Not because he's the worst...but because he's the best.

Edit: grabbed his comments from the group nominations.

He says that his group is the one he wanted to avoid, but he thinks he can beat his first opponent (Happy) so he's confident that he will advance to the Ro8.

How Life stacks up against the rest of the competition. Career-wise Life is:

0-5 against Seed, 0-3 in series
2-1 against Happy, 1-0 in series
7-3 against Symbol, 3-1 in series

Most of these series are very old and happened in 2011. The only series that happened within the last four months are a 2-0 victory over Symbol in the IPL5 International Qualifier, a 0-2 defeat against Seed in the first TSL4 KR Qualifier, and the very recent loss to Seed in IPTL Premier Division.

Life plays Happy first and he should be considered the undisputed favorite in this match. Despite Happy's surprise advancement to the Ro16, his games in the Ro32 were very sloppy (and he admitted as much in his post-group interview). Happy’s TvZ has been very inconsistent over the last few months. He has beaten DRG and Sniper in IPL TAC 3 but lost to Sirius, Whale, and Byul as well. Most of Life’s ZvT losses can be attributed to poor followups to 2 rax pressure; he has won the majority of the macro games convincingly. Happy will most likely try to use 2 rax in Game 1 to throw Life off his game.

On paper Symbol is a harder opponent. He was one game away from reached the Round of 4 last season and is considered a better player in general. However Life has the advantage in this matchup as well. ZvZ has always been Life’s best matchup, and ever since Match it has been world-class. Symbol’s ZvZ has looked especially wonky ever since Seed leeched away his confidence. Beating Lowely, Jookto, and Deathangel is nice but expected; losing to SalttheWound, Hyun, Whale, and roof is not fitting of a Code S player.

Seed is the hardest player for Life to beat. He is a top 3 protoss with no weak matchups, can play excellent macro PvZ as well as precise all-ins, and never feels pressured when he sits in the booth. Besides that there are several reasons to think it will be a close series. Life can keep up with him in macro games and surprise him with weird pressure builds. His training with StarTale has taught him more efficient builds to set up the broodlord/infestor lategame. Life ought to be equally calm when facing Seed as he is considered the heavy underdog, and losing would be an expected result. Plus Life has Curious, one of the few zergs who can consistently take it to Seed, to talk strategy with.

Things look good for a spot in the Round of 8.
