More people would watch sc, the overall skill level at the top would increase because everyone would try hard to take someone as good as him down. More people and also more MONEY will flow into sc2. Paychecks and prizes would grow.

You can be a doctor for 30+ years, while you have no idea for how long he can get this kind of salary in SC2.

And more people are not watching sc, in fact sc viewership is 50% lower than it was last year. He is probably on the biggest yearly salary now in SC2, you are crazy if you think it will increase...

The day progamer make something close to 1M a years is yet to come.

Stephano is smarter than you apparently.

dunno if viewership is down 50%. but what's certain is that it's down. maybe we can expect a "bump" with Hots, but it will slowly go down until it reach the "core" fanbase.

viewership may be lower because the big events are no longer free (and we don't have public stats for them)

and that's not even proven it is lower:

I often see 1rst presonne LoL stream having way more viewers than big Sc2 competitions
I often see the major LoL competitions having 2-3 more viewers than the major Sc2 competitons ( I rmember a dreamhack were sc2 had ~40-45K viewers when LoL had 125K

Lol explains a lot

@algue : LoL is a F2P, it's for a large public (from 8 to 88 years), meanwhile SC2 costs 60$, it explains a lot.

It's not a news, and don't prouve that SC viewership goes down. LoL had always more viewers, and the DH that you talk was one year ago.

MLG have always near 50k viewers (2011 and 2012), there is no decrease.

LoL doesn't have as many tournament that's why. in the end i'm pretty sure sc2 gets as many viewer as LoL over the entire year.

also wp stephano for his first wins under EG. He did not crumble under the pressure.

I think if you look at the SC2 scene now there are so many tournaments, streams, youtube channels and so much content out there now. So there is much more choice for the fans. This means it is natural for individual events to have less viewers because there is increased competition for their attention. Think of how television channels are getting lower ratings individually because there are more TV Channels now plus things like online viewing and DVDs etc. However more tournaments also means more sponsors are getting involved in the scene. So I am not sure that a significant decline is actually occurring.

ASUS ROG had the highest viewer ship ever last time, So that's simply not true. You post really don't make sense. Revel8 also make an excellent point there is so many more tournaments now then there was in 2011.

As much as I'd love to see him become the Jaedong of SC2, we all know that ain't gonna happen.
He has the most insane potential, even greater than all the bw gods combined, but there aren't enough factors to pull that insane talent out. It saddened me greatly come to that conclusion. Any of you who watched his play for longer periods, must have catched some moments that were absolutely out of this world. The level of pure genius he displayed in some brief occasions is so beyond anyone ever seen in sc. But there can be no persistence with that talent. He doesn't have a decent not even close to decent training environment, I'm not bashing at EG here. Not even about the whole western scene that has a flat dumb skill ceiling compared to korea. Even if he practiced full time in korea in houses like TSL, that still wouldn't be enough to pull that talent out and make it a constant in every event. The only thing that could do that is for him to truly dedicate to sc.
Not see it like a one time fling before I go to some lame medical school, but as the thing that crowns your entire life achievement, the most important thing that you could do in your entire life. If he would ever see his sc2 career like that, he would become so godly nobody would ever have a chance in getting close to him.
I'm also sick of his bullshit with medical school. He has all the chances and support to win more than 3 lifes of doctor paychecks WHILE doing something he ( i'd like to belive) actualy likes.

Had to login to this site for the first time ever, just to point out how fucking dumb of a post this is. 3 lifes of doctor paychecks, lets get realistic here. This entire post is just flawed and stupid.

I think he's generally right about Stephano's potential and that he probably won't reach it because he doesn't have the drive to practice as hard as he needs to to reach that level. Of course, he's wrong about how much a progamer, even a top tier one, will make over the course of his exceedlingly brief career relative to a doctor who will likely work into his late 50s or 60s.

You understand training does not scale, and that it's not mathematical. It's not because you train 20h per day that you will be the best player in the world. Mental state and balanced life matter a lot. You have to be happy in life, find your rythm and everything.

I don't want to bash you, but I rarely see such a wrong post.

+ you have no idea about doctor paychecks amount.

While it's true that training 20hrs a day won't make you the next bonwja and that you need mental state and balance as you point out, if you have a tremendous amount of talent and can practice 12-16hrs a day (without burning out or injuring yourself) you will almost certainly be better than the player, with a comparable amount of talent, who practices four hours a day but enjoys an excellent quality of life. I cannot think of a single sport or activity, whether physical (MMA, e.g.) or mental (e.g., chess), where participants do not benefit from additional practice -- again, assuming they don't hurt themselves or burn out.

Look at what the KESPA pros, despite still playing BW, who are reputed to pracice harder than anyone, have been able to accomplish in such a short time. There's no way that Jaedong, Flash, Fantasy and even some of the lesser known pros won't be top tier pros very shortly (and Sun and Rain arguably are arguably already) given that they supposedly practice 12+hrs a day and most of the SC2 pros, even the Korean ones, generally seem to top out at around 8hrs a day. (Feel free to correct me if you have different information.) Flash had said that at some points he was practicing up to 20 hours a day to prepare for Proleague matches. Jaedong said he would practice 13hours a day, six days a week. This level of dedication, when coupled with talent, will make you a champion. If the KESPA pros don't go on to dominate in the next six months, then perhaps the alternative view -- that you don't need to practice like a madmen to be a champion will hold sway. That Stephano has been able to accomplish so much in SC2 despite his off and on practice routine is a testament to his genius. As a general rule, however, the person who trains the hardest and smartest, other things equal, is the most likely to win.
To be is to be the value of a bound variable.

Just ignore it. Nazgul wrote a good post. But yea you know its Stephano. He beats everyone these days and there is always some sort of an excuse. We pretty much used to that by now as a Stephano fan. Stephano is one of the best players in the world and has been a for long time. People just cant get there head around that.
