It's already been a month since I joined the Millenium team and I haven't yet taken the time to introduce myself, telling you where I'm from and what I do in the process.
The Beginning
I don't know where my passion for RTS games came from, [it might have a relation to] my playmobiles when I was a kid or rugby which I started playing at age 9-10. Nevertheless, as soon as I stumble on something that has a teeny bit of strategy in it, I'm completely involved. I started playing RTSes before even having a PC as a friend introduced me to WC2. The damage has been done, I was immersed in it.
Afterwards, I was farming RTS game rooms (TN: equivalent of KR internet cafés in here, sorta - for gaming) in all the free time I had, on games like AoE1 and Vanilla SC as they came out. Back then, I was a mere sad noob that was getting owned badly by the computer... TT
Later on, once I was ready for online play, I went on battle.net. Elky was already in [South] Korea and players like MoMaN had left the SC:BW scene. Even when the BW scene was fading, BW had something that set it apart from the other RTS games, despite trying all the other games: WC2, DotA, even WoW. I was still feeling the urge to go back to BW and play games, on top of all the replays and VoDs from Korea.
The Protoss Inheritage
I felt that Protoss was the best fit (TN: or "was designed") for me since I started playing SC. I have a Zealot's soul. My Protoss side definitely came to light once BW was out when I was trying units like the Corsair and the Dark Archon. My strength point was my Dragoon & Reaver micro. For those who don't know the game well it's the spider and the caterpillar in the following picture ^^
(TN: Picture is no longer available T.T)
I miss those two units dearly since, in SC2, they were replaced by the Stalker and the Colossus, respectively:
After all, what they could have done is just add the colossus and keep the two other units. It would've been better, wouldn't it?
However, the bulk of my strength came from a timing-based production (having the right unit count at a given time t). One of my most famous builds, one that terrorized all my Zerg opponents was based on Zealots after expanding.
The Progamers
The Korean Progamers were obviously making me dream [I was there] / had me raving (TN: depends on the context). I drew some inspiration from their play and didn't hold myself from watching ProLeague VoDs. This is why I decided to show you some videos of my favorite Protoss players.
Garimto, nicknamed "The Zealot", had set himself apart from the other Protoss players by playing an aggressive style and abusive Speedlot usage. His reign lasted only for a moment but he will stay a legend and one of the best Protoss players (TN: ever?) in my opinion.
Nal_rA, also nicknamed "The Magician" stayed at the top of Protoss players for a long time. Thanks to his unusual style, he was able to do miracles with his exceptional micro.
Kingdom, the "Devil Protoss", was an extremely aggressive Protoss. His APM could reach the 400 mark. He was able to do everything and abused usage of proxy strategies.
Reach brought his contribution to the Protoss gameplay with his "aggro-macro" style. He was able to hold off with permanent harass by developing an absolutely perfect production, which often made the difference.
Much was definitely my favorite Protoss with his inventive and original style. However, he couldn't assert himself as the #1 Protoss.
Bisu quickly asserted himself with his timing-based macro style. He loved the Dark Templars and his specialty was to send them in the worker lines of his opponent at the best time. At times, his micro was lacking, but he still did what was necessary. He always took the advantage thanks to his builds. He managed to keep the #1 place in KeSPA's rankings for a long time.
Stork asserted himself after Bisu did and also became #1. Thanks to a style based on perfect micro, he could do it all. By abusing some timing windows, he would make the difference very early in the game.
I was inspired by many other progamers as well, such as Grrr, Anytime, Pusan.
To cap it off, here's a montage of the unit that every BW Protoss player is missing:
StarCraft 2
Like a lot of people, I was eagerly waiting for SC2. BW was getting old and I was dreaming that someday I could apply all my BW knowhow on a live RTS. My dream is coming true. I am having some good results on SC2 and this is merely the beginning.
And here it ends. I will speak more about my SC2 gameplay and my efforts on the game in another blog post.
Lost in the middle of the Fontainebleau forest, a courageous Protoss still resists the relentless invaders. Under his nonchalant rugby player looks, Benoit "Adel" Stripsteen hides a strong competitor who bets on his game sense more than his hand speed to crush his opponents.
I try to live SC2 as much as possible and if I could go pro at this game I won't hesitate one second. I practice everyday for this and if I have the opportunity to go to (South) Korea, I'll jump on the train and plane and live it as much as possible and try to impose my game style over there. I've given myself 6 months to rise up in SC2 and then see what's next.
Aside from that I've played rugby for 10 years, it's one of my hobbies. I'm on the field every chance I get. In life team spirit is something I've learned to apply especially through rugby and I've also done a couple of years of internship so I know how to tolerate people 24 hours a day, so that's not really an issue. On SC2 it's different though, I've never really been a "team play" kind of guy, it's something I practice from time to time but I always have issues when it comes to organizing the strategy as a team. I prefer being able to rely on myself because I'm really demanding towards myself and it's hard to play with friends or allies, whenever they do something that doesn't suit me it gets complicated as I have a very competitive mindset which makes it hard for me to play just for fun.
I also do rock climbing, when I have a chance I meet up with friends in a forest and we climb for a bit. Sure it damages your fingers but sport as a whole is a good source to stay in shape and I think you have to stay in shape to be competitive in SC2.
When it comes to my game play, I think my strength is my game sense because it's something I work on a lot with replay, trying to understand every unit, every phase in the game. I can concentrate on something very small that allows me to play to the fullest at key moments. In big LAN events you have to be very focused, you must set the bar high for results, at least that's how I see it, so it might be a bit harder to have fun and enjoy. But LANs are also a whole different experience.
Thanks to all the fans who support me, I'm always very happy when fans whisper me to congratulate me when I win an important game, it really warms my heart. But now I have to win the LAN against TuZeR, SarenS or maybe Aures who's still in the run and win the entire thing.
Sign me up been a fan since I saw him on day9 ages back where he smashed huk pretty hard in pvp really underated. but does seem to choke a lot still an amazing player really fun to watch.
Sign me up now. Been following him since beta and his pvp style has given me a 90% w/l ratio in that match up :D You should add the day 9 daily(ies?) on him to the OP.
definitely sign me up as well, he's a creative player with a very unique style; I actually predicted that he'd go not only past MVP but quite far in TSL, hopefully that'll be true as well. Adelscott fighting!
Since my very begining in StarCraft, i knew i was made for Protoss. I have a Zealot soul. My Protoss side was confirmed with Broodwar's Dark Archons and Corsair. My strengths were Reavers and Dragoons micro, as well as good timing pushes.
I was really inspired by Korean players and i'd relentlessly watch VODs from them. My favorite ProGamers were Garimto, Nal_rA, Kingdom, Reach, Much, Bisu and Stork.
I've been waiting for SC2. BW was getting old and I wanted to put all these practice years on a living a RTS. For now, my dream is happening and i manage to do some results on SC2 and it's only the begining.

Thumbs up. New Fan here. I play protoss and I used to think that gateway units were AWEFUL!!! Maybe I'll try to get all their upgrades and see what I can do then thank you Adelscott.
I feel that these fanclubs popping up everytime a player wins in the TSL is kinda serving as a spoiler to people who are waiting for the Vods :I
Yes and I dont get it why people make fanclubs for every single player as soon as they win in the TSL.
i can only speak for myself: i knew hardly anything about him, and after watching the TSL games i thought he deserves some kind of honor in this forums!
If u dont wanna join this little fanclub, just let it be. We are building a fanbase for this player AND supporting esports...
B2T: Thx for the interview link, ill add it right now!
Sign me up ! I've always thought very highly of adelscott after i saw day9 do a daily on his no gas pvp style. Always thought he was a very original player and yesterday he showed that he can beat the best players in his own way ^^!
I guess it's mostly my fault for not minimizing the fanclub section. But I wish people would wait a day or two before making fanclub threads after the player in question plays an anticipated game.
That aside, the guy played really well. I wouldn't call myself a fan just yet, having only seen two games, but beating MVP is obviously no small feat. Adel must be feeling pretty damn good about himself now. ^^
And man, these games really made me appreciate how tough zealots are. Those things just did not die. O_O

really? maybe the admins should minimize the fanclub section by default to prevent such things?
Adelscott's play in the RO32 in TSL3 was very impressive. Regardless of circumstances, it is clear that his take on PvT has merit and this will most likely be the style that will take Protoss into the future of this match-up.
Hey guys, welcome to my house. Lost in the middle of the Fontainebleau forest, a courageous Protoss still resists the relentless invaders. We don't have that many successful progamers in SC2 as compared to the beginning of SC:BW (in fact, the only name that is coming to my mind is Adelscott :x), but I'm very proud to see such a nice guy play such enjoyable games at the highest level !
I don't even understand your logic grush. Mech isn't a tier. You can win versus protoss by mixing in bio with mech but pure mech is very hard versus protoss because of how mobile and cost effective protoss ground is against tanks/thors w/o bio support. Also void rays dominate mech. You can go mech you just need bio and banshees to protect your army.
finaly protoss joins terran and zerg who can WIN games with tier 1 - 2 units without doing anything cheesy ... T: MMM Z : ling-baneling bust , Mass roach ... its really rare to see a toss winn without imortals or collosi or void rays or DT-HTs .. yes thats allot of ors lol :D VASY ADEL !!! vivement que P&T cast tes games du TSL !!!
I'm glad Adel won! :D I hope he'll regain confidence in PvZ, but now the most important will be the PvT against Kas, which would be very hard, but Adel is the terran killer then it should be ok
P&T: Hello Adel how are you? A: I feel great, hy everyone P&T: So to start this of, where does your nickname come from? A: It's a nickname I have since the Broodwar days. Back then I was in a team where everyone had beer nicknames. Adelscott was the only one left (laught). P&T: Why don't you tell us more about your career in starcraft. A: Well I began playing sc1 a while after it came out and I also stayed on sc1 for quite long even when broodwar was out. In 2002 I finaly started playing on broodwar and It took me a lot of time to become competitif and to get admitted in the french national team. I did participate in some lans and clanwars, however I made better results in 1 month of sc2 than in 5 years of sc1 so I guess I wasn't that good in sc1. I guess it also had to do with the fact that I started sc1 later than other people. P&T: Did you meet other broodwar player like MoMan or Aures? A: MoMan had already stopped broodwar. I only saw him a little at the end of broodwar. In fact I played broodwar after all the good people had stopped. P&T: So is that why you won? A: (laught) P&T: Are there any players you had troubles againts in broodwar and how is it in sc2? A: Well the only player I had a lot of problems whith was SarenS. I actually never won a bo3 against him in broodwar. I sometimes took some games of Kenzy and Aures who I already new in broodwar. I think I took the upper hand in sc2. P&T: Did you, like many players, check out w3? A: I had a brief passage on w3. I played less than 500 games because I realized that the game didn't suit me. I prefer games where croudcontrol and macro matter rater than games that are build around heros. P&T: Why did you pick Protoss in sc2? A: When I first played sc1 at the age of 15 I didn't even have a computer, so I had to go to a cybercafe. I instantly fell in love with protoss because the computer would zealot rush me and I found that very strong. So the protoss spirit contaminated me and never let go. Furthermore I also think protoss is a race adapted to me. When you play protoss you don't have to have insane macro or super high apm, what you need above everyting else is a excellent vision of the game. You also are not allowed to make any errors or to be surprised by anything. In termes of macro protoss realy isn't the most complicated race compared to zerg or terran. When sc2 came out I could have changed races but I really wanted to play protoss because I like this race. All in all I simply think protoss coresponds to me. P&T: Could you tell us witch protoss players inspier you? A: All protoss players inpire me. I watch a lot of replays to get a better vision of the game. But to tell you one name I find genius very inspiering. P&T Tell us a bit more about your late scout, witch we came to name Adelsout (laught). It seems you don't like scouting very early why is that and how do you deal with chease? A: It is true that I don't like scouting to early, mostly because you have 1 less probe mining and the intel you get in return realy isn't worth that. For example if you scout after the gate against terran you will see 1 barracks. Then you have to get away when the marine commes out and thats it. Same thing against zerg, when he has zergling he will chase your probe away. Shure you can also harass a little but having a probe mining is better especially earlygame. That is why I prefer to focus on my timings and on probe micro. However against a player who I think is weaker than me I might scout earlier to be save and to harass. P&T This leads us to our next question. If your oponent knows your not going to scout early dont you fear all in builds like 6 pool or proxy racks? A: By scouting later I get an economic advantage so I put that to use to make my builds save against almost all allins there are. If I feel that I can be save against anything then I realy have no reason to scout to early, do I? Versus terran I scout afer the core because there is no reason to scout earlier. Sometimes I still lose to proxy racks or early pools but only if I made a mistake. P&T: What do you think your weakness are and where do you want to get better? A: Well I don't have the highest apm compared to other playes. So on longer games with a lot of multitasking I might not be as fast to react as others or to keep up the macro during a fight. P&T: Any last words? A: I would like to thank team Millenium and theyr staff who does excellent work a well as all my sponsors (msi, materiel.net, winnamax)
Sign me up ! I switched toss when i saw adel pown everybody with as many apm as me I dont understand, this guy hasn't the best macro, he hasn't the best micro, he got 80 apm and he is just incredible. He mb got the best game sense !
This guy just doesn't get enough love. Protoss can be played as the macro race and destroy. You don't need to just rely on the deathball to win. Count me in.
I mean he's obviously gonna win... (i hope) :/ I think his style will really suit Kas's. They know each other really well, from Go4Sc2 and other tournaments and armor upgrades will really do good vs Kas's Macro.
He just won the GA (gamers assembly) http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=215635 whitch is the biggest tournament in France. Other players present were: HasuObs, Strelok, Tarson, Bly, Sarens, Stephano. I would also like to mension the performence of Aures who made it to the finals defeating players like HasuObs and Stephano. I think I will keep an eye on him in the future

He basically doesn't scout and doesn't adapt to the play of his opponent. He just goes very fast 3 Nexus every game (watch M vs fnatic - vs KawaiiRice).
so it has to be something else. His unit composition is really strong imo.
Sorry but, Adel blames lag for 1) blowing three guardian shields to two slow lings that weren't attacking 2) not walling off 3) losing games 4) not scouting.
He plays ONE style, never adapts and blames lag when it fails.

He is positioning his units ALL THE TIME! For every engagement and for every time he's defending. That's his strength. And I'm such a fan of this play tbh.

He is still playing regularly. You can see him stream for on the MilleniumTV (in french), otherwise he is participating regularly in Monthly tournaments. He won a french event last saturday.
impressive, tough two one base play against polt, but i guess that's part of the game, who said we had to mine out the map before fighting, polt shoudl be more cautious

gg adel!
you just have to be ready for anything your opponent throws at you =) <3 adel
He will have a tough time during the finals against PartinG but he has no pressure, nothing to lose, he already has $10000 at least. And after seeing the games between CombatEX and PartinG, I think he is not that unbeatable. Let's pray for PartinG not being in his best form !
