It's already been a month since I joined the Millenium team and I haven't yet taken the time to introduce myself, telling you where I'm from and what I do in the process.
The Beginning
I don't know where my passion for RTS games came from, [it might have a relation to] my playmobiles when I was a kid or rugby which I started playing at age 9-10. Nevertheless, as soon as I stumble on something that has a teeny bit of strategy in it, I'm completely involved.
I started playing RTSes before even having a PC as a friend introduced me to WC2. The damage has been done, I was immersed in it.
Afterwards, I was farming RTS game rooms (TN: equivalent of KR internet cafés in here, sorta - for gaming) in all the free time I had, on games like AoE1 and Vanilla SC as they came out. Back then, I was a mere sad noob that was getting owned badly by the computer... TT
Later on, once I was ready for online play, I went on battle.net. Elky was already in [South] Korea and players like MoMaN had left the SC:BW scene. Even when the BW scene was fading, BW had something that set it apart from the other RTS games, despite trying all the other games: WC2, DotA, even WoW. I was still feeling the urge to go back to BW and play games, on top of all the replays and VoDs from Korea.
The Protoss Inheritage
I felt that Protoss was the best fit (TN: or "was designed") for me since I started playing SC. I have a Zealot's soul. My Protoss side definitely came to light once BW was out when I was trying units like the Corsair and the Dark Archon. My strength point was my Dragoon & Reaver micro. For those who don't know the game well it's the spider and the caterpillar in the following picture ^^
(TN: Picture is no longer available T.T)
I miss those two units dearly since, in SC2, they were replaced by the Stalker and the Colossus, respectively:
After all, what they could have done is just add the colossus and keep the two other units. It would've been better, wouldn't it?
However, the bulk of my strength came from a timing-based production (having the right unit count at a given time t). One of my most famous builds, one that
terrorized all my Zerg opponents was based on Zealots after expanding.
The Progamers
The Korean Progamers were obviously making me dream [I was there] / had me raving (TN: depends on the context). I drew some inspiration from their play and didn't hold myself from watching ProLeague VoDs. This is why I decided to show you some videos of my favorite Protoss players.
Garimto, nicknamed "The Zealot", had set himself apart from the other Protoss players by playing an aggressive style and abusive Speedlot usage. His reign lasted only for a moment but he will stay a legend and one of the best Protoss players (TN: ever?) in my opinion.
Nal_rA, also nicknamed "The Magician" stayed at the top of Protoss players for a long time. Thanks to his unusual style, he was able to do miracles with his exceptional micro.
Kingdom, the "Devil Protoss", was an extremely aggressive Protoss. His APM could reach the 400 mark. He was able to do everything and abused usage of proxy strategies.
Reach brought his contribution to the Protoss gameplay with his "aggro-macro" style. He was able to hold off with permanent harass by developing an absolutely perfect production, which often made the difference.
Much was definitely my favorite Protoss with his inventive and original style. However, he couldn't assert himself as the #1 Protoss.
Bisu quickly asserted himself with his timing-based macro style. He loved the Dark Templars and his specialty was to send them in the worker lines of his opponent at the best time. At times, his micro was lacking, but he still did what was necessary. He always took the advantage thanks to his builds. He managed to keep the #1 place in KeSPA's rankings for a long time.
Stork asserted himself after Bisu did and also became #1. Thanks to a style based on perfect micro, he could do it all. By abusing some timing windows, he would make the difference very early in the game.
I was inspired by many other progamers as well, such as Grrr, Anytime, Pusan.
To cap it off, here's a montage of the unit that every BW Protoss player is missing:
StarCraft 2
Like a lot of people, I was eagerly waiting for SC2. BW was getting old and I was dreaming that someday I could apply all my BW knowhow on a live RTS. My dream is coming true. I am having some good results on SC2 and this is merely the beginning.
And here it ends. I will speak more about my SC2 gameplay and my efforts on the game in another blog post.
See you next time!

Hey guys, welcome to my house.
Lost in the middle of the Fontainebleau forest, a courageous Protoss still resists the relentless invaders. Under his nonchalant rugby player looks, Benoit "Adel" Stripsteen hides a strong competitor who bets on his game sense more than his hand speed to crush his opponents.
I try to live SC2 as much as possible and if I could go pro at this game I won't hesitate one second. I practice everyday for this and if I have the opportunity to go to (South) Korea, I'll jump on the train and plane and live it as much as possible and try to impose my game style over there. I've given myself 6 months to rise up in SC2 and then see what's next.
Aside from that I've played rugby for 10 years, it's one of my hobbies. I'm on the field every chance I get. In life team spirit is something I've learned to apply especially through rugby and I've also done a couple of years of internship so I know how to tolerate people 24 hours a day, so that's not really an issue. On SC2 it's different though, I've never really been a "team play" kind of guy, it's something I practice from time to time but I always have issues when it comes to organizing the strategy as a team. I prefer being able to rely on myself because I'm really demanding towards myself and it's hard to play with friends or allies, whenever they do something that doesn't suit me it gets complicated as I have a very competitive mindset which makes it hard for me to play just for fun.
I also do rock climbing, when I have a chance I meet up with friends in a forest and we climb for a bit. Sure it damages your fingers but sport as a whole is a good source to stay in shape and I think you have to stay in shape to be competitive in SC2.
When it comes to my game play, I think my strength is my game sense because it's something I work on a lot with replay, trying to understand every unit, every phase in the game. I can concentrate on something very small that allows me to play to the fullest at key moments. In big LAN events you have to be very focused, you must set the bar high for results, at least that's how I see it, so it might be a bit harder to have fun and enjoy. But LANs are also a whole different experience.
Thanks to all the fans who support me, I'm always very happy when fans whisper me to congratulate me when I win an important game, it really warms my heart. But now I have to win the LAN against TuZeR, SarenS or maybe Aures who's still in the run and win the entire thing.
