Welcome to the SeleCT fanclub. Over the years, SeleCT has won our hearts with awe inspiring micro and his carefree personality. He's dominated several different strategy games, ranging among Warcraft 3, DotA, Dawn of War, and of course Starcraft II. Truly a G.O.A.T as far as eSports goes.
mm I don't think I'm gonna have a list or anything like that, just a "fanclub" thread for people to post interviews / upcoming showmatches / talk about who he is going to stomp next etc
Hoping for an incontrol vs SeleCT showmatch someday, but I doubt it will happen.
Select is a beast.... his unit control is honestly amazing and its a shame he isn't over there trying to qualify for GSL. His games today should showcase his resilience and skill.
'bout time SeleCT is a true beast! First noticed him for real when he played all through the loserbracket in MLG DC to end up getting 2nd. Quite impressive stamina
which was the tournament where he was in the losers bracket for almost the entire tournament and got to the finals after like 6hours or something of pretty much non stop starcraft? i think that endurance as much as the great games made me a fan!

MLG Washington DC
Sign me up! Been watching all of his replays since that tournament! :D
Finally! SeleCT's fanclub is up He's one of my favorite player and i don't have a lot of favorites I had my eye on him from the start when he appeared nowhere when i was watching BigT's stream for iem thing. Somehow he stuck on my mind from that day on and i always rooted for him since then
SeleCT FIGHTING!!
p.s. Op you forgot to mention his newly made nickname Octopus Terran
I hate the idea of bandwagon-ing, but after those games vs. Jinro, I can't help but be a fan. I think Select has shown he has what it takes to be a top starcraft player.
Glad to have him back doing stuff again, he kinda fell out of the scene while he was in Korea, shame he couldn't have stayed a bit longer though, could have gotten an invite to Code A
Like others have said, his TVT vs jinro in the GCPL was an insanely entertaining series. Never saw much of him outside of DC but that series def. made me a fan. Hope to see more of him in tournaments.
I knew this thread was coming from the Liquid vs. Dignitas games...coming back from a 50 supply deficit vs. Jinro is an accomplishment indeed. Go Select!

I think we all know how that would end... But yeah, love watching Select. I'm a protoss but he is the first sc2 player that i liked. His play is cool and he has amazing control and multitasking. That and when i saw him play 13 straight bo3's at MLG... what a boss.

Incontrol will always be SeleCT's mortal enemy at SC2 (even if it's just a fabricated thing). At least from a fan perspective I can't wait to see them play against each other in a big tournament or showmatch. Mainly because to be honest the criticism about his style of play was kind of unfounded. It was a really solid macro, and multitasking intensive harass style TvP. Irregardless of the fact incontrol praised him a lot recently, I still want to see the rivalry for entertainment purposes.
Big fan of his ever since his first tl open performances. Hoping he starts playing in the tl opens (i see his registered for the next one) so he can make it into TSL.
Sign me up. Fan of select long before his matches with Jinro. Actually rooting for SeleCT during the matches, and I consider myself a nice Jinro fan as well. Overall solid play, great decision making and superior multitasking.

Yeah, I would actually go so far to say that it isn't that huge a loss with the prizepool MLG put up. So if you compete regularly and do very well at MLG you can make a lot of money.
3864 points on NA ladder with 72.66% winrate, 3797 points on EU ladder with 68.67% winrate currently, a couple of TL Open wins, second place to Idra at a MLG...
wow, i´ve been a fan of select since the old DoW days. one of my favorite terrans. GO select!
and thx a lot for the stream, its spectacular. the way he just ROFLSTOMPED a 3.9k toss like he was a gold leaguer was aweinspiring. and the poor dude now has to play select again for the 4th time in a row or so. he´s probably going slit right now^^
lol I would have done alot better if i had time to analyze the replays, but I was going more so for the quantity of replays rather than the wins. His hyper aggressive build has some very big weaknesses I'm going to exploit in round 2.
That said, medivac play from such a highly skilled player would make any protoss slit their wrists unless they too are on that level.

Are you trying to justify your losses in a fan club thread of the player who beat you while insulting his fans? Please don't, it doesn't work.
On February 24 2011 04:39 Benjef wrote: Whats he been up to lately? I haven't heard any results of him for a while. Is he in Korea or NA?
He's in NA again for a while now and he is trying to qualify for the TSL. Apart from that, there aren't many tournaments around at the moment, but I'm sure he'll compete at the MLGs and in NASL if he get's a spot.

Select, is it okay to request a replay from you? I saw on your stream one against a P, close air spots, Metal, a few days ago. It was right after a game where he 4gated you. You won with a drop into his main and luring him out all the way past his nat to the 5 o clock third, and then you dropped his main with some units produced in the meantime.
This isn't an exceptionally epic game but I would really love it as an example of "slow playing" a drop to show a few people and I was wondering if there was any way you could upload it? Or if anyone has a recorded VOD of it? Don't mean to sound needy, it's just really helpful when pros post stuff like that ^^

You mean we should perpetuate a non-grudge because some people are can't handle or interpret simple criticism?
My favorite sc2 terran ever. This guy is crazy good. I remember watching his stream when he went 1 rax pressure+expand and toss went 3 gate and still had to pull probes to defend. He has probably the best multitasking in the game not counting former BW pros like Nada.
can't wait to watch these replays, playstyle/gameplan in game 3 was sick. Turtling with really good push/pressure timings to keep zerg down, pretty textbook TvZ to learn from.
Select is my favorite sc2 player after his games vs. incontrol and the past few days. I've always loved watching him but now I've seen his greatness. So nice too
damn, never before has any series made me want to revert to Terran. I switched to Protoss because my APM is <100 and Select showing why I made the right move.
That match vs Geoff was like watching the Terran stream his placement matches. Complete domination, spanking, outclassing. Select will win MLG Dallas 2011...he has phenomenal TvP.
On April 04 2011 03:31 GhettoSheep wrote: where did InControl criticize SeleCT's playstyle?
after the MLG select got second in, he basically said SeleCT used the same build every game or something and how there was no way he could keep up with that success using that build.
his "build" was MMM with lots of harass / nexus sniping / drops. Basically exactly what he did in game 2 this mlg but he added in nukes and bcs lol. He never said SeleCT was bad or anything, just that he needed to diversify his builds. I thought the criticism was really misplaced but it obviously just blew up / snowballed from that.
I've always admired Select but thought he played cheesy to often but I now understand him to be a total baller capable of anything, sign me up, best dropship play ever vs incontrol, wp dude!
Now you know how all us Dawn of War players felt back in WCG 05 and 06. "Oh you can't win bla bla bla". Well no shit, we had to beat this guy to win anything.
What's this? You'll pay for him to win you a ladder match?
Is that even legal?
Why is this illegal? I'm not sure who in the world would want to pay to get free wins on their account and I'm not sure it's select's best use of his time either...$350 for 100 wins? Not a really good payout for the effort and boredom required, IMO. About $26/hr if each game + ladder search lasted 8 mins long...

Feel free to edit in anyway or make some for other fan threads. I used the trial version of Photoshop and even though it was the first time, by googling a few times for different mini tutorials, I was able to get the hang of it fairly quick. Apart from figuring out a few things by far the hardest part was organizing it all. I really needed to set up some sort of template layout before being able to get some speed behind it. It was hard to decide on a good way to distribute this. I finally settled for a standard post like this with all the information available to everyone and a PM to notify the person running the page of this post.
As a disclaimer: The idea originally came from the Cool/FruitDealer fan thread by jongim. Link and also Cool to see it in action: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=156570 I contacted him before starting to work on them because I wanted to make sure that I was allowed to. He was flattered I caught inspiration from his project and had no problems with me doing so.
I have made similar ones for some other fan threads.I really like the concept of the head cutouts. But one of the main reasons for me to do this was to give each a nicer and more organised look. With all the different layouts of the various fan threads, it becomes easy to lose overview. Using any type of header improves on this a lot. And I hope it will inspire other people do something similar for their favorite players, just like it did for me.
If you look closely you can see the edges of the picture. I have no idea why that is happening, I used screenshots of the forum as the background. To verify that I haven't made a mistake in this, before posting, I tested this again and the color codes are exactly the same on the far right as the far left, when you use the teardrop tool. There is no visual difference when I used a cut-out of a recent screenshot of the forum as the background layer as well as taking the color of the screenshot layer and ,for example, making a box on the current background layer, with that color. Maybe it's a super special color code that you just cannot replicate exactly? To make sure you can't blend pictures in or Photoshop screencaps or something? :O
Can't see if I already signed up but in any case do it again cause Selects well worth it, guys play is so nice, sick game sense and speed! gogo Select!
Sick games tonight, I still watch bw and for some reason select reminds me of Flash, idk why but his play does it seems like every move counts. Great job tonight man it's on game 3 so I dont know if you take this series but either way I'm a huge fan! :D
Favorite foreign terran! I think he has the most raw skill of any foreigner TBH (except maybe that idra guy). If I'm not already signed me up please do =)
Feeling bad for the people he meets on ladder. His micro is so ridiculously awesome, gets me thinking: "ok nice harrass, but it's over now"... 1 min later: "how the heck are those few units still alive and killing probes!?" Still don't understand how he didn't get through the qualifiers of GSL... I suppose he wasn't as refined in all the MUs as he is today, but the man is a beast.
I think in a few months SeleCT can take the title of best SC2 player outside Korea. He's not as refined as other players, but wow his multitasking is so good to watch in first person. And it was already absolutely amazing in VODs. When his builds and timings become more refined and catch up to his amazing mechanics, and more importantly when he hones his game sense more (hopefully in a team house environment), his rise will be truly inevitable.
Does anyone know some specifics on SeleCT's background? I've been hearing he's a "foreigner," "Korean American" and "North American," yet his name is usually accompanied by a Korean flag which would imply that he is a Korean national. I would assume he's Korean born and moved to the United States at a young age, but I'm not sure.

IEM Champion? Pfft Select took care of him ezpz. With this 2-0 over Ace and his recent 4-0 over Kiwi, it looks like Select has really started to figure out TvP.

Good to see seleCT owning it up, nice to see that very smooth and refined play that we all know him so well for. Those fast fingers with that 500 APM xp
How good wouldn't select be if he went to Korea and practiced with a Korean pro team. He have obviously showed that he has the potential to be one of the best (even though he is up there right now). Would love to see Dignitas go to Korea !
Sign me up, too. I've gradually become more and more of a fan of Select ever since early this year. Even though he just lost to MC, his playstyle won me over in the NASL playoffs. I love this guy.
I love seeing selects APM on IPL, Other pros APM 150- 200, Selects APM 350-400. No wonder he favors drop play, best way to put that APM to use. I wonder how much of it is APM spam though xp.
Sup son?! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ A very much deserved win right there! So glad to see you get a huge tourney win and to go with your Dignitas brothers to tear up Blizzcon! :D
I think he really deserves it because he's such a hard worker. Its easy to slump and never get back up, but SeleCt had a hard time and now seems to be stronger than ever.
SeleCT!! Grats for winning NA invitational :D I'm happy for you because I was afraid you would have lost hope after doing poorly in mlg but you came out stronger!
Congrats on winning the Blizz invitational and getting the invite! Just watched the video of MLG Anaheim and even though you lost there but you said u were gonna practice and it paid off.
Watching this guy play TvP is like watching Roger Federer play tennis. Both are so elegant and deadly.
Does anyone else remember his game versus Incontrol in MLG Dallas on Metalopolis? That was the craziest TvP I've ever seen, SeleCT played Incontrol like a cat-mouse game.

Since so many foreigner fans claim Select as one of their own, has Select ever been asked in an interview whether he considers himself a foreigner or whether he even thinks about it?
Does anyone know why SeleCT won't be attending either the IEM tournaments (he declined quals for IEM China and didn't enter at all to IEN NY) as well as not attending MLG Orlando? Is it because he's in Korea?
He's still planning on going to IPL 3 and, of course, Blizzcon... Both those are in October as well.

I could watch that clip over and over again - it would never get old! Awesome baneling targeting!
Checked sc2ranks just now.... SeleCT has made it into GM!!!! I know before BlizzCon he was still in Masters, so some time between then and now he made it in. Congrats SeleCT! You played amazing at BlizzCon. We all know you were hoping for a better placement (and could see your disappointment), but you made some spectacular moments that will never be forgotten (e.g. clip above).
Recently he's become one of my all time favorite terrans, just a magnificent player all around. And I can technically call him a foreigner of sorts :D And he's my idol in terms of micro and aggression (and handsomeness).
Did anyone else think that SeleCT's English improved? Maybe I just have not heard him speak in awhile, but during his interview, at BlizzCon, after his win against Dimaga his pronunciation and clarity impressed me. :3
does anyone know why he doesn't stream anymore? I saw it a few times like 6 months ago, and once maybe 1 month ago, but recently theres been nothing T_T
Seems to me like he's been practicing in secret, he was mentioned after his game with Dimaga in ASUS ROG tournament that he skipped MLG to practice for bigger tournaments.

I've seen him stream quite a few times in the last month or two, he lives in Korea though, so his streaming times are different than before. It's not regular like jinro or kawaiirice or someone like that, but I have seen him a few times.

I think so, I remember when I first started following the pro scene just after release, he had a few interviews and I found him hard to understand, wasn't very fluent. But he's even translating for Koreans now at various events Speaks very well, writes perfectly etc.
Hope Select wins the Stars Invite! gogo. Good times coming up for SeleCT imo after his TvZ has improved so much, to go along with his great TvP.
Congratulations on getting 2nd place in the ASUS tournament! TBH I didn't even expect Select to get past Dimaga so to get 2nd is really good. Select has definitely improved a lot in the past couple months.
So depressing to watch SeleCT lose those games...he didn't play even close to what he usually does. I hope he sticks around in Korea...I heard he was leaving in December.

SeleCT's micro and drop play, such as the show he displayed vs MacSed is extremely enjoyable to watch. I hope his results in 2012 exemplify the caliber of player his is. He definitely doesn't get enough attention as a top foreigner Terran.
SeleCt if you read this man I am proud of you bro! You played great and beat some really good players, made it all the way through to the champ bracket. It's all about seeding man i know you can make top 16 next MLG. GL!
I started watching professional esports when my friend told me to watch Halo at MLG Dallas in Spring 2011. I got bored and switched to SC2 and Select was playing against Naniwa. I didn't give a shit that he lost, I was immediately a huge Select fan. I learned the basics of sc2 by youtube searching games of Select or watching any replay of his I could find. Ever since, he has been my favorite player. No matter who was winning GSL or who was the foreigner hope, Select was my favorite player. I always regret not getting out to a live event to meet select and see him play in person. That being said, I am glad he is doing what he truly wants. Even me, as a huge fanboy, admits that his results haven't been spectacular. I hope he is very successful in Dota 2. Frankly, I don't know jack shit about Dota myself as SC2 was the first and only esport i watched/played. However, if he plays it professionally, you can bet that I'll watch. TY so much Select for providing incredible entertainment in SC2. You're play at Blizzcon and MLG Raleigh are two of my favorite esports memories. GL in Dota 2 and whatever else you hope to pursue in the future, I will be cheering you on!
Hope he does well with QPAD but QPAD isn't exactly the strongest team. Hopefully he'll help turn them around, would be awesome to see SeleCT with a really competitive team and see him stomping people!
These speedy HOTS medivacs were made for Select! I remember when the medivac speed/acceleration was nerfed in the beginning of the WOL, Select took a huge hit and was forced to switch his play back to something else. I remember a game on Metalopolis where he kept microing (load/unload), drop somewhere else, and everyone on the forum was complaining that Select was a medivac abuser. Well, guess what? He's back!

Anyone know what happened to SeleCT? The last things I can find out about him are like 2 years ago, and since then nothing. I saw him in one of 2GDs videos at TI5 for like a half minute and remember that he went back to SC2, but can't find anything about him. Is he still playing, or did he retire again to do other stuff?
Enjoyed watching his stream last night. Looks like hes only playing for fun at the moment, but maybe if he shines brightly in LotV, since he was always good at small skirmishes, he'll come back as a pro :D
