I was gonna post this on the sc2 general forum in response to the "incontrol haters" thread but it got closed so I thought I'd post it here. If Geoff or a large number of people dislike this or find it inappropriate pm me and I'll edit it down, or a mod can delete it. Thanks and much <3 Geoff I'm gonna go all Sigmund Freud on this. Think in your own mind what the stereotypical gamer/forum lurker is. If you are honest with yourself, you know that it is someone who is socially awkward, to skinny or to fat to have been popular in high school and not very athletic. Someone who may have been the subject of bullying and certainly wouldn't normally belong in the "cool crowd." Now look at Geoff "InControl." He certainly does not fit the stereotype of a gamer or forum lurker. He's outspoken and confident. He was on the football team in high school. He's dating a beauty queen and is an intimidating person physically (don't lie, you wouldn't be talking shit to him at a bar on Saturday night unless you were really really drunk). Geoff represents everything that a typical gamer and forum lurker is not and most likely will never be. On top of that, he is even better at video games than most of us. People hate him because they know they're never going to be as popular as he is or have a girlfriend that is as pretty as his is. I agree that he is not always politically correct and sometimes is just plain wrong. Yes he can come off like a jerk at times. I believe though that he is under a lot more scrutiny than normal because of who he is and what he represents. He is what a lot of people want to be but are not. At least that is my perception of the swell of Incontrol haters. Personally, even though I don't always like what he says, I can't help but like Incontrol. He tries hard to grow esports and put out good content for the community. I'm a fan because of his straight talk and passion for the game and the community.

Yes, people only dislike Incontrol because he has a pretty girlfriend. Everyone loves Justin Bieber's music but they are just jealous of his money ofc. This is a horrible way to respond to criticism and makes you look shallow. For all your forum lurker bashing this is literally one of the most antisocial outlooks possible. "They just don't like me because I'm prettier than them..." "They just don't like me because I'm smarter than them..." Actually make an argument instead of setting up strawman forum dwellers.

You don't actually "sign up" for a fanclub ![]() There are just these thread with all the good stuff and the news from the players, and you write your "sign me up!!!!!111" in there to show that you are a fan of them. These are just more like special threads about the players, nothing more ![]()

But if you actually speak up, then that shatters that illusion for alot of fans. Now that athlete is human, has personality flaws, says things you disagree with. For example, alot of people actually get mad when celebrities of any sort voice their opinion on politics. For me personally, Destiny is the player that can get on my nerves. I find him funny often, but he says stuff that makes me cringe sometimes. I like him more than I dislike him, and realize that just because 10% of the time, he says stuff I don't like. But I realize he's just a regular trying to make it as a pro, and I can accept him for his flaws and watch him, or just avoid him. As for Destiny's fans .... that's another story :p. As for the rough weekend, I think alot of people simply don't appreciate how tough the pool play is at MLG. You can sweep the open bracket, but it just doesn't compare to the five guys you have to face in pool play. These players are so good. I've read how much flak a guy like Haypro has gotten over time, people saying things like "quit wasting time in Korea and just quit", but these are the sort of guys you've facing. Look at the list of players that went 1-4 and 0-5 in pool play. It's pretty much as all-star team of foreigners. Especially with the mentality that some have that Koreans are a tier above, then that's usually a 0-2 start (given the current foreigner), so you have 3 other matches against extremely good players. To put things in perspective, WhiteRa and Tyler both dominated the open bracket. Tyler goes 0-5 in pool play, then wins 2-0 in the championship bracket against ThisIsJimmy who made it out of the open bracket. WhiteRa, who got so much love for what he accomplished in the open bracket, then loses to Select, who went 1-4 in pool play. Choya, a Korean, who makes it out of the open bracket loses immediately to inControl. The competition is pretty damn tough. edit: I'm an idiot. Great song.

if he were 18 of course it'd be critical... but that's not hte case. people are over emphasizing the importance of these MLGs and NASLs and IPLs and stuff. if Geoff keeps losing its clear he can move into a management position with EG... now that EG has its own house and is expanding new management positions will need to be filled. what better way to fill them than with a long time veteran player with a long track record of success. none of the other EG managers were ever actually down in the trenches. The General In My Army will have at one time in their life been on the front lines firing a machine gun and gunning down the enemy. Not some well meaning accountant/salesman who couldn't get a free bonus man for hitting 20,000 points playing Pac-Man. I think Geoff's best future is in EG management as the entire team takes off to unprecedented heights of success.

No need to apologize, I know the month in the Team house will improve the entire team EG. I bet and quote me "the ENTIRE team will place better next MLG individually" I know it. Talking living and Eating Starcraft the next month will improve the entire team 10 fold and I cant wait to see the entire team doing well to shutup all the EG haters. Shit soon they will be all wanting to be a fan like me . Maybe it has something to do with age as Im 28 and have been following EG since the early days and know how much dedication EG has. Soon enough people will see EG as a force to be reckon with (as it isnt already) and will be leading the way in the western scene. Any word about when Puma is coming or if he is Geoff...? I think EG needs some more solid Terrans as it seems your lacking in that race department.. anyway love watching MLG and I would love to come watch ya live sometime if only I wasn't Canadian and over thousands of kilometers away lol anyway Prove to the EG haters in Raleigh because Im sick of them! GL Geoff cant wait to watch your stream!
