Korean culture doesn't feel nearly as wtf insane as Japanese does most of the time, though that's also enjoyable from time to time. I really get into some parts of Japanese culture, being a (mainly RPG) gamer and an anime and manga fan, of course, aside from Kpop and eSports there's really not much about Korea that draws me. well I've only watched one japanese variety show and my only impression from that is that jpop idol girls are alot more liberal on all things cheerfulness, makeup, clothing and boob size. i dont know how horribly unfair i just was to all the other jpop idols

There's a lot of face time with their idols through music show performances/ variety shows/dramas/etc etc etc, which makes kpop really easy to get into.

So I thought I was home alone and I was watching vampire diaries/we got married and enjoying my morning (I hadn't left my room yet). I had heard my mom and brother leave for school/work so I assumed I had the house to myself.. So as usual I am fangirling over girls day/miss a, freestyle rapping and beatboxing dubstep type shit at full volume... I went full retard. I make my own weird lyrics formed from words I like or some shit... and scream like a schoolgirl when romantic scenes happen.. so this carried on for over an hour with nobody saying shit. I was out of my room in my boxers screaming "SMACK YA BOOTY LIKE A LOCH NESS PIMP" while throwing out gangster hand signs and dancing only to find my mom and her bf staring at me mouths wide open trying to hold back their laughter,, unsuccessfully. I scream, run back into my cave, dive under my blanket and pretend nothing happened. I can't leave. I can't look anyone in the face ever again.. Damn that's hard. You will have to get over it one day. I know it's way easier to say it than to do it, but, if they laugh at you, just take a shit on their forehead. They will remember it, no doubt, but the awkwardness will pass. I've got caught up listening (not fanboying) to Kpop once, it was my dad. Since then he has a few Kpop songs in his playlist ^^. No one else knows though, even my closest friends. I guess they are not that close to me since I can't tell them. They didn't knew about Kpop since PSY's Gangnam Style (just like tons of people), and they still think it's kinda cheap. I have a story though. One night with these friends we put PSY on and I got an idea. I proposed to everyone "Okay, let's start from PSY on Youtube, and watch everything in the video suggestion bar !", and surprisingly, everyone got excited about it. So we did that, and it was the funniest, yet the weirdest party I had with them. I acted all the way like I was new to it, trying to make bad biased reactions like "OMG is this really a guy ?!" or "I can't believe that there is people who actualy know all their names ! I can barely recognize them !". Still, we had a ton of fun and we enjoyed the music. I almost got caught off guard when I began to sing a song along. Everyone were getting drunk, that's what made me do it, that's also what saved me xD. My inner self couldn't stop laughing. I think I should feel kind of guilty for acting in front of my friends, but now that we've done this, whenever I find the balls to tell them, I can say that it all started there. If it is, some of them got into it since then too xD. On October 30 2012 03:22 aloT wrote: Out of curiosity, why is it that the rest of you got into kpop and not jpop? Was it mostly because of bw/sc2? I watched my first anime/manga and knew lots about Japan long, long before I ever laid eyes on jessica. When I think about it I cant understand why kpop and Korean culture sucked me into oblivion while jpop and Japanese culture remained a far away novelty I personaly prefer how angul sounds, even if I don't dislike Japanese. But I remember something I read in an article that sums up exactly how I feel about Jpop. For pervy, try the J-pop group AKB48, a Japanese girl ensemble, with scores of members, who, affecting a schoolgirls-in-lingerie look in their video “Heavy Rotation,” pillow-fight, kiss, and share heart-shaped cookies mouth to mouth. Girls’ Generation is a group of preppy-looking young women in skinny trousers. When they wear hot pants, it’s to display the gams, not the glutes. Full article HERE. Though I think it's a repost.

Mainstream K-Pop was pretty much a carbon copy of the J-Pop idol system from the training systems, to the variety shows but a bit more tame. Look up AKB48 and their fan handshake meeting incidents if you want some fun. In the same sense, there's a lot of quality artists if you can weed through the crap AKB and all their subgroups, all the generic androgynous Visual Kei bands put out and all the shoddy Anime OSTs. This is probably my favourite Jap song. I disagree that it sounds much worse than Korean though. Also Pianist with an afro. + Show Spoiler [Afro-Pianist] + Urban Zakapa did an interview for their new album if anyone's interested http://www.hellokpop.com/2012/10/30/urban-zakapa-takes-part-in-interview-for-new-album-02/

Congratulations on your self-fulfilling prophecy. You hate it because you expected to before it ever came out and the second you heard one song you didn't like you immediately used it to affirm your pre-conceived belief. The album, like every other album on the planet had its good songs, its bad songs, and its mediocre songs. It had songs that were like many of the past songs and songs that weren't. Tough shit that you don't like it because it isn't identical to their first album from 9 years ago. Neither were any of their other albums. Learn to see past your own internal biases and you'll find there are good songs on the album. how do I hold all of your logic loops? I'll refrain from being mundane and answer the core of what you're actually asking, because your argument is based off a ton of assumptions and, from what I can tell from your posts, misinterpretation of their music thus far. for the rest of the average community, maybe it's an overreaction, much as your own view of their reactions is an overreaction. for some other long-time fans and I, definitely not. If you're a fan, you'd know that this is not the first time that they've changed the direction of their music. Every album concept has slightly shifted, and Epilogue was the one of the biggest shifts before 99. For one, is it because I hate that 'every album doesn't sound the same'? (pause for a sec; that's such a misinformed statement. and it isn't because I want everything to have the same sound, I loved epilogue but hated swan songs, etc.) No, it's because their new style simply takes off of every other band out there right now, and it's always something that they've strove to avoid. Now it sounds like something Big Bang would produce, and in all senses of that statement, it's true. All of the producers credited on the album come from YG who've also previously worked on Big Bang albums. Is this to say that the album is bad because of the pervasive YG touches heard on every track? By kpop standards, or by BB standards, the album itself is pretty decent, maybe higher than average. Compared to a work of art like Pieces, Part 1, this album is completely garbage. In a sense, the bar is raised because you expect so much more out of this group, and I put them on that pedestal for a reason. Why do people, yourself included, compare every T-ara release to Absolute First? Because it sets the fucking bar. I can argue that specific album and its corresponding repackage set the new high for mainstream kpop. Epik High dropping an album after a 2 year hiatus isn't like "lol we snsd we come bak afta 4months in Nippon to drop a single errbody gonna like dis shit even tho it aint intw no more." You have expectations ofc, but you understand the group may change after such a long time. As fans, you try hard to like the group that's changed and evolved (devolved huehue) because it's your favorite group. You attempt to come up with excuses for the group so you can continue to like them. You view 'Up' and you say to yourself "well this shit is fucking whack but this only a single! it dun matta if the album is fantastic!" Then you view '춥다' and you're like "well this is closer but this still that soft Winter's End shit and it ain't too hot but I guess I can fuck wit it." Then the album drops and you're just straight up "I'M SO APPALLED S M H" Maybe an ok track with 아까워, and the rest is Big Bangesque tracks? album is beyond redemption. And one track with Tukutz? Wait let me emphasize that once again. ONE. OUT OF TEN. This isn't even Epik High anymore. This is like Alex and Horan jerking around on their own without Clazzi. And that's the crux; this album isn't even an Epik High production anymore, it's just another kpop album. For this Big Bang album I'd give it 4 slaps outta 5.
