The contract seems far too good to be true. I feel like there must be a drawback somewhere. I suspect that once you accept the contract, you are forced directly (Can't rebel against the rabbit thing) or indirectly (You lose your powers? Your wish? Your life?) to fight the witches. So far, the witches have been portrayed as evil, but that's mostly because of what Mami's said, and because they look alien. Things probably aren't so black and white though.
It's interesting to note that the seed didn't recharge Mami's magic - rather, it sucked the darkness out of her jewel. And if the girls recharge their magic by killing witches, I wonder if it's safe to assume that witches do the same by killing magical girls.
I think I could listen to the OP all day. I kinda wish they'd give us a proper ED. By the way, in IS it was suggested that charging towards someone with a long range weapon is bad. I dunno about you, but it seems strategically sound to me. =/ Also, Merry is cute. + Show Spoiler [MSMM 2] +The "sucking out the darkness"-part is interesting. Perhaps if a magical girl uses too much magic it will transform into a witch? So if you don't want to become one, you need to kill other witches to save yourself from the darkness accumulating in your jewel.
If you take a look at the gif above (or the fight scene), one of the recurring parts in the background is a butterfly (mark of the witch) and a egg-jewel (magical girl "device"). Butterflies are commonly associated with death, rebirth, metamorphosis and the cycle of life. What does the egg-jewel stand for? Also the symbols always appear next to each other in a never-ending circle, so they have to be connected by more than just being enemies. + Show Spoiler +That doesn't make sense though. It's like: You're using too much magic and becoming a witch. How do you solve it? USE MORE MAGIC TO KILL A WITCH
+ Show Spoiler [MSMM 2] +To further speculate: No, in that case it would be too late for you. When your magical power is gone / tainted, you have no chance to defeat another witch. But since your contract demands that you defeat them, you'll have to fight another witch. Either you get killed without your magic, or you use magic, reach the taint threshold and become another witch.
Edit: That would also work with the cycle of life or the death and rebirth imagery of the witches butterfly. And would lead to a constant supply of witches for the magical girls to defeat, only to become one in the future. You could even tie some sort of "there will always be evil in the world" balance to this.
Unrelated to that, we learned that the Grief Seeds have charges (and can be shared). I wonder if one charge removes all taint or if they are limited in some way. They are also considered a reward and if you listen carefully, they not guaranteed to "drop" when you defeat a witch. So if you are unlucky, you could defeat a few witches, don't get a Grief Seed and have no way to remove the darkness from your magic.
Watched Wandering Son / Hourou Musuko right now. Pretty art style and a serious, somewhat confusing story (as expected). Definitively recommended, but it's not some lighthearted fun series. It seemed like they skipped A LOT of the earlier story, but I haven't had the time to read the manga yet, so that might be my imagination.

The parameters of the duel are that if your shields deplete, you lose. So they give him this mech that he's never used before that has an attack that drains your shields to zero, and he loses by unwittingly using it. I hope that the LNs weren't written this poorly -_-
At least now it's plausible that they don't use them for war. With only 467 in existence, it'd be pretty impractical to use them; losing one in battle would be incredibly costly. + Show Spoiler +While his ability is useless in duels, there's no doubt in my mind that real combat will occur by the end of the series. Especially considering the first ep.
It's not impractical to use IS in battle. With limited numbers, it just means that mass production isn't an option. The IS has a wide variety of weaponry (presumably), has shielding, is stupidly maneuverable, and can fly. It's your run of the mill overpowered mech. Just because you can't deploy them everywhere doesn't mean they won't be effective in battle. Yes, losing a suit would be costly, but they'd be so good at killing stuff that it wouldn't matter. For instance, aircraft carriers are ridiculously expensive and losing one would be catastrophic, yet they're still used because air superiority is invaluable. + Show Spoiler +I just hope that the show gets better. It's been really meh so far. I'm just frustrated I guess : / I agree that the show has been pretty mediocre so far. The fights aren't bad, but the story is kinda lacking.
I have Hourou Musuko and Fractale downloaded, but I should probably start studying for the quiz I have tomorrow. I've wasted enough time on LoGH, IS, and Madoka already lol.

Oh yeah, since the magic girls compete against each other to kill the witches, I wonder if Madoka and Sayaka(?) will end up having to fight each other or even Mami one day.
The video on Yumekui Merry 2 from gg just stopped at 19:20. The audio kept going though. Right when it got to the good part
I think I'm gonna keep watching the show for Merry and the Dream Demons. Merry is too awesome. Did anyone else notice that she sounds EXACTLY like Kirino from OreImo? I looked to see if it was the same seiyuu, and oddly enough, it's a different seiyuu in her first ever role. Go figure.
@ Spazer: I've been putting LoGH off for a few days. I'm six eps behind lolol

Incidently, gg released a v2 for Yumekui Merry a little while after the initial release. Aren't you using MAL updater? It should've picked it up.

The trailer is on youtube ;b I was hoping sawako would be cuter *.*

I think I need to reinstall it. It keeps bugging out on me. Then when I use task manager to close it, it won't re-open -_-
Edit: I just remembered, I torrented Kore wa Zombie desu ka? and the Onii-Chan show like three days ago, and still haven't watched them. D:

Woot UTW just released Fractale. Now time to finally check that out.
Vacation is drawing to a close, so my viewing will slow down dramatically. I watch maybe an ep or 2 a week when I'm in school, and a ton over breaks. Winter break I watched/read: Umineko ep 7 All of Shiki All of Ichigo Mashimaro Iblard Jikan Finished Mirai Nikki Disappearance And 60 eps of LoGH
And over the rest of term I'll probably get through about 20 eps total lol.

What did you think about the end of Season 2 of LOGH?

IS 2 + Show Spoiler +The elitist class rep is falling for him already? I hoped that they would wait a few episodes before expanding the harem. I'm not sure if i like the show yet. It seems to be lacking something, but I can't put my finger on what that is.

Now for some predictions: - This has to be 24 eps. I don't think they can introduce the rest of the harem and still have a semblance of a plot in just 12. In fact, I think everything up until 12 will be harem stuff.
- New unclassified IS appears. Lots of throwaway student mooks lose to it (bet it's a man).
- Goal of the new IS is to take over the world or some equivalent for
the sake of equal rights for men great justice. Actually, scratch that. He's doing it because he's an evil villain.
- War breaks out which means our hero gets to use his fancy ability since it's not a stupid duel.
- Our hero fights the IS and loses.
- Missing sister is making cores for the enemy! OMG BEST PLOT TWIST EVER
- Houki has emotional breakdown upon learning this. Cue several episodes of angst.
- Everybody works together and beats the new IS. Bonus points if they left Houki behind at first and she arrives in the middle of battle.
I like my chances. Edit: I almost forgot. "First shift" implies that there'll be a second, third, and probably final shift as well.
+ Show Spoiler [Misc Madoka thoughts] +Mami is in the ninth grade. Where are her parents? Madoka has parents. Homura said some stuff about why Madoka shouldn't become a magical girl because she values her family, right? Why does Kyubey need to recruit new magical girls? This implies that new ones are needed. Are the numbers of magical girls decreasing (becoming witches?) or are the numbers of witches increasing (because of the corruption of magical girls?)? What is the criteria for becoming a magical girl? Why doesn't Kyubey just recruit everyone? For a genki girl, Sayaka can certainly be morose. Troubled past or something? Where the heck did that tea come from? O.o Kyubey is evil. I know that all happy rabbit avatars are evil because I watched Kobato. Rumor has it this is the cover for the ED single: + Show Spoiler +![[image loading]](http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/1133/1294997168566.th.jpg) I don't think it's been confirmed by a reputable source though.
Merry is cuuuuuute. Holy crap. And the art in this show is so good. Barring some horrible screw up, I'm gonna watch the rest of this show.

Okay, long spoiler post going in here + Show Spoiler [Yumekui Merry] +Was it just me or did that Merry ep make little sense, unless of course that was my fault for watching it over x1 speed, but what I grasped from it was:
They have some random chick who wants to become a nurse, and she has a dream demon that she's friends with. The whole episode is pretty much plot development, with Merry staying over, showing that the main char has a family, (mom's dead more stereotypes :D) w/ a overused transfer student (female of course) who seems to/will be important.
After that, some random dream eater comes, kills the dream demon that was introduced this episode (probably as showing a vessel type interaction), and takes over the girls consciousness, then the ep ends, trying to show more of a connection between the main character Merry and Yumeji.
+ Show Spoiler [Infinite Stratos] + For IS I think its pretty generic, with the plot line + character development. The harem growing is pretty standard once they put 1 male character... The fact that the story seems pretty much all about his past, and like a fight in present time. Looking @ the next ep seeing another girl is pretty well... I don't know . TBH This seems like it'll just your average shounen/harem type anime, but the fighting animations are pretty nice, with the exception of the weapon variety being the same as gundams DRAGOON system + beam sword anyone?
Modoka seem's okay, but is just starting of slow (its late so I won't make another spoiler post about it). Hourou Musuko is pretty weird... and I haven't watched Fractale yet so T_T
|
I find Hourou Musuko a bit funny? lol, and Yumekui Merry bores me, I don't really like it. Infinite Stratos is entertaining as long i just watch it and not think about it. Madoka is pretty interesting for a mahou shoujo, and the witch stuff seems like im on drugs or something.

I'm not trying to diss anime, I LOVED Ghost in the Shell and Spirited Away, but most of the anime I come accross is so cheesy and gimmicky. Are there any more anime series/movies that are of similar quality to the ones mentioned?

It looks alright and looks like it's taking directly from season one, but they're just going to smash it all together in one hour and a half movie. Yeah, they could of made Sawako cuter, but whatever.

+ Show Spoiler [IS 2] +Meh, if there are only 467, that won't explain the implied societal changes at all. At least I was somewhat right about the summoning possibilities (I guess it's in the bracelet).
Not really impressed so far, but the tsundere is cute and the fights are pretty good, so I'll stay with it for now. Also it still looks nice and the tech is still interesting. (A bunny girl is the developer of the IS?)
+ Show Spoiler [Fractale 1] +I was right to wait for UTW with this one. Really beautiful visuals, please don't watch this one on FUNimation, it needs to be in HD.
Can't say much about the story, very slow paced. The girl is nice, and the ending was a little unexpected. I wonder what's up with the 3 idiots. :D

From what I've been told about the LN, the "plot" hasn't really progressed anywhere meaningful in 6 volumes. And the series still has a long way to go before it works its way through the content in the LNs.
I don't think anyone has any idea where this is actually headed, if it's even headed anywhere at all.

Yumekui Merry + Show Spoiler +That whole nurse thing was...odd. If I'm remembering correctly, she wasn't there at that point in the manga--so either they're pulling from an issue that I haven't read yet in order to speed up the progression of the story so it fits in a season, or she's just a character they made up for the anime. In either case, her insertion into the story is a little awkward.
