+ Show Spoiler + ... ![]() It was totally Oberstein's fault. If he hadn't convinced Reinhard to treat Kircheis like everyone else, Kircheis would have had his gun. I didn't think he'd die though. I thought it'd be one of those bullshit things where a main character takes like a million shots and lives. Then I remembered the unexpected deaths that people mentioned. *sigh* That killed my day. First time I've cried in a while too... Edit: As for favorite character, definitely Yang.

I've seen Golden Wings, My Conquest is the Sea of Stars, and Overture to a New War. They're mostly pretty good actually. Golden Wings is a bit weak in animation, but that shouldn't be such a huge problem since it describes a young Kircheis and Reinhard.

But you will get more Tessa later on and everything is better with Tessa. That said, I need to watch season 3 already, got a little bit distracted by the new series and other stuff (for example someone convinced me to watch Dance in the Vampire Bund). Episode 1 was epic, the story up to episode 7 is also pretty good, but is this amount of naked loli fanservice really needed? But I guess I know now for sure that I'm not turned on by realistic naked lolis, even though I enjoy Mina Tepes (and other lolis) as characters. Are here other people who read To Love-Ru Darkness? If so, what's your opinion on chapter 4?

I really enjoyed the series (although I found the second season to be weaker compared to the first, which seems another uncommon thing).

But I think I'll give it another try. I dislike Spice and Wolf a fair bit. The premise is interesting enough; a young (male, this becomes important later on) merchant is on his regular trade route when he stops by a village during their wheat harvesting festival - the idea is that they show appreciation to the "ancient wolf" that had blessed their land many years ago. As per usual, the festival is a sort of capitalist bastardization of the events. Come one night he wakes up to find a human/wolf/thing stowed away in his cart - this is his encounter with the wise old wolf, which would set up the journey the two of them make to find and bring her to her "home." However, therein starts to lie some issues. 1) the author's not smart enough (might be different in the books). For a story so heavily laden with economy, merchantry, and financials it was a bit bizarre to see most of the plots revolving around some underhanded merchantry as opposed to direct economics. This is all the more bizarre when you consider that the protagonist is supposed to be relatively veteran when it comes to these things, and yet he makes the most stupid of blunders, and the plot device goes as such: a) MC makes retarded blunder that would throw people into prison for debt b) by fortune, quick wits, and Horo's cunning, he makes it out c) moves to next town d) go back to a this is aggravating, and further is compounded by 2) Horo's cunning tends to be long-winded (never direct, always does these willy-nilly coy BS that overdramaticizes the main character's plight for 5 episodes before being "solved" in some dumb way.) This then underlines 3) Most of the anime series ends up becoming more of a series of flirtation between the two than an actual "wise old sage vs young lad." While it's not too surprising for a Japanese LN (and I say this with an obvious sarcastic, distasteful tone) it really ruins the premise of Horo the character and starts a downspiral of bad. I don't recommend it unless you fall in love with Horo. I'm a staunch believer in that being the one and only reason people actually like the anime. Edit: TL;DR For the series to be good, Horo needed to be like Senjougahara from Bakemonogatari. Instead she ended up being like some random girl from a harem anime of your choice. Good game. There you go.

Oh, and the fact that the author just isn't smart enough to make real economic issues later on is also a huge issue. It does just turn into the Lawrence screw up-Horo saves his ass thing. Another thing is how the going back to homeland thing quickly turned into a plot device for the romance of the two, there is just not enough substance in the relationship of the two characters to make it work out in the long run. That leads to the author inserting more random characters as a device to prop up Horo and Lawrence. It is pretty boring to read after a while. Really at some point I was watching S&W just because I like the way Horo talks, nothing more.

Edit: TL;DR For the series to be good, Horo needed to be like Senjougahara from Bakemonogatari. Instead she ended up being like some random girl from a harem anime of your choice. Good game. There you go. Just to expand on this -- The biggest problem for me is that besides Lawrence and Horo, there are no remotely interesting characters in the show. That means those two need to be damn interesting, because they are the only two characters you're going to care about. I think that the show could work if the two had slightly more interesting conversations. But it doesn't quite, and the two aren't interesting enough (and their interaction isn't interesting enough) to carry the show. This is only compounded when one of them stops appearing for one reason or another for a couple episodes, at which point the show flounders completely. Another problem (which hasn't yet been mentioned) is the art. I watched season 1 ages ago, so I don't really remember it, but season 2 had really lazy animation, with shoddy looking backgrounds that hurt the show for me even more. It's ok, I guess, but for a show that has basically no action and a whole lot of sitting around talking, it would be nice to at least be visually appealing, to give me something to look at. Not to say that Spice and Wolf is a bad show -- I just don't think it's that great of a show either.

Then Kara no Kyoukai, because everyone loves Shiki. EDIT - Yes, I honestly think that the four from Seitokai no Ichizon has more depth than Horo. At the very least, I couldn't stomach more of the S&W books, I loved the Seitokai series.
