@ Sentenal: I've seen Robotech as well, but not Macross. Is there a difference?

I'm looking for a new series, something smart and complex like DN, no schoolgirls or aegyo (Miss Amane really really bugged me). If it's action-y I don't mind, but I'm not crazy for it. Anyone have any suggestions? I've seen Ghost in the Shell and the Animatrix as well, I like that vibe. Something like that would be great. Darker than Black (Noir vibe, nice plot, interesting characters) Code Geass (Secret hidden power, mecha-battles, political drama) Noir Ergo Proxy Baccano! (Noir vibe, engaging plot, black humor) Noein (deep story) Requiem for the Phantom (skip the second story arc)

Is there a difference? Short story: Robotech is Macross+Space Cavalry Southern Cross+Genesis Climber Mospeada Long story: + Show Spoiler + Carl Macek wanted to bring Macross to the US in the 80s, however back then, a series needed like 50 episodes to be airred. He also had the rights to the other two shows I mentioned above. So, he basically fused all 3 shows together into one. The "Macross Saga" of Robotech is essentially Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, except in English, mostly Americanized names (Rick rather than Hikaru, for instance), and slight modifications to Macross's plot, to make it fit more in line with the following two shows. Key differences between Macross and The Macross Saga: Protoculture in Robotech was an alien fuel source used to power their Mecha. Protoculture in Macross was an ancient civilization where both the Zentraedi and Humans are descended from. In Robotech, the SDF-1 was completely destroyed at the end, and the entire bridge crew other than Lisa died. In Macross, this didn't happen. Also the SDF-2 eventually goes off on a Space Mission, where it had gotten destroyed in Robotech. In Macross, obviously the Invid and Robotech Masters didn't exist. In Macross, there are other forces in the Galaxy you learn about in later shows (like Macross 7 and Macross Frontier... And technically Macross 2, although that isn't considered canon). There are probably other differences that I'm forgetting. Then after the Macross Saga, Macek put Space Cavalry Southern Cross as the "Masters Saga". The plot of the original Southern Cross got massively altered compared to the treatment of the other two shows. It got altered into the sequel to Macross in Robotech. After that, Mospeada was added as "The New Generation" saga. Other than being made into a sequel of Macross/Southern Cross, the plot of this was let relatively untouched. Just name changes, mostly. The events of Macross Plus, Macross 7, and Macross Frontier never happen in Robotech. The events of the Masters saga, New Generation, and Shadow Chronicles never happen in Macross.

And since I already watched Plus, are 7 and Frontier worth watching too?

Macross Frontier has some of the best animation of Mecha battles outside of Gundam Unicorn. However, towards the end it sort of drops the ball, but is still worth the watch.

Now Im sorry if im interupting some discussion here but as its a anime thread I'd like to ask for some advice. What good both new and old animes should I get my hands on? They can be famous or not, doesnt matter. Any kind of genre. I just want them to be good ones. So basically I have watched quite alot already. Trigun, Berserk, Hellsing, Naruto, Bleach, One piece, Saikano, Fullmetal Alchemist, Full metal panic, Black Lagoon, Akagi... and so on. But these are the more should I say famous animes, ofc not all of them are but anyway... so I think I have missed ALOT of animes that could be good, especially the more new ones 2009~ and the older ones ~2000. Any suggestion would be awesome.

The spoiler tag contains a bunch of charts with a ton of recommendations. Edit: As for 2010, I've only been around for the fall season but The World God Only Knows is a solid show. And OreImo is if you like slice of life comedies. By the way, does anyone know the timeframe for the release of the alt-ending to OreImo?

But would be nice to know since I know of rougly just 50% of them so its alot to download.

Also, is there a good way to turn romanizations into katakana/hiragana/hanguel? I've been looking for this kind of thing to no avail. EDIT: minor stuff.
