Ah. All right. Thanks.
And after watching OreImo 11, I like the series more now, because Kirino stopped being an ungrateful brat for once. I felt genuinely happy.

You might've found the oldest version or something, look for either the 10th year memorial version or the renewed version from like 2007.
I just remember laughing nonstop at its requirement being DirectX 5

Do most of you watch on anime sites or download episodes? Is there a downside to any of them? I always watch them on sites but it seems most of you download. Can anyone link me a good site for downloading?

IS: Infinite Statos seems to be another harem anime. Then again, I'm not complaining. Half a month ago, I came here looking for harem/ecchi manga/anime so I'm fine with that. Besdies it's been a looooong time since I watched a mecha anime, IS might be right up my alley this season, provided it will actually have a plot. Besdies that I want Gosick to start. Also, wasn't "Haiyoru! Nyaru-ani: Remember my Mr. Lovecraft" start? When I googled it, it came up as "OVAs" and "finished" on MAL. I'm confused, anyone care to explain that to me? Is that a prequel that I found or did this show really already end?
I also don't understand the appeal of Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop. I mean they're good and action packed, but I find, that they are nothing to write home about. Anyone else feel that way, or is something wrong with me?

I watch most online. The downside is obviously, the megavideo 72min cap crap etc. Low quality etc. www.anime44.com , www.animecrazy.net , www.animedreaming.com are the sites on which I watch.
DL, is IMO only worth for the shows that are really good. Most anime from a season is just pure crap anyway. There are only a select few "noteworthy" shows every season, and even fewer worth downloading. If you plan on DLing, get them HD, 720p or 1080p. Each episode is around 1GB that way, but I don't mind it for the shows I really like. http://www2.tokyotosho.info/ and www.hongfire.com (I think?) for torrents. http://www.ji-hi.net/ for comparing Subber groups. Noteworthy are [UTW] and Mazui subs. If you plan on doing this longterm prolly get an external HDD, most of us have very small internal HDDs (mine is 250GB) so we need externals.
Also: try www.myanimelist.net and the MALupdater program. Will keep things nice and tidy for you if you're into anime/DLing from tokyotosho. From experience I can tell you, sooner or later you'll want to sign up to MAL. After 60+ shows watched It's hard to keep up with everything just in your head.

The biggest disadvantage to watching online is that the quality sucks. Generally, my policy is that if a show is bad enough that you're just skimming through it online, you should stop watching the show.
Regarding good sites to download: The best place to download is via IRC on the NEWS channel. How to use IRC has been gone over in this thread. TokyoToshokan, NyaaTorrents, Animesuki, and BakaBT are good if you want torrents. There are a bunch of good DDL sites too, though I don't really know about them.
Check MAL for the best sub group for each show. You can always torrent/use IRC from the sub group website.
Also, if you download lots of episodes you kinda need an external after a while. They're reasonably cheap by now though.
Edit - just googled around, here's something on ddl sites: link
Edit - lol, there's no need to get an external unless you're running out of space on your current drive. Anime just takes up a lot of room, so you start running low eventually.

Hey guys. I just finished Death Note, it's my first anime, and I loved it. I'm looking for a new series, something smart and complex like DN, no schoolgirls or aegyo (Miss Amane really really bugged me). If it's action-y I don't mind, but I'm not crazy for it. Anyone have any suggestions? I've seen Ghost in the Shell and the Animatrix as well, I like that vibe. Something like that would be great.

Cowboy Bebop if you havn't watched it yet. Spike will always be my favorite fictional character ever.
|
Thanks both of you guys. I will try to get an external HDD. I do use MAL though but thanks for the advice. Cheers.

Code Geass is really similar to Death Note in a lot of ways, and it has fighting robots

Nah, you're just going to get quite an experience.
Remember to stay for the scenes AFTER the ED. =p

Has it even aired yet? I really want to watch the new anime series even if they aren't anything spectacular; my backlog of older anime series are pretty unappealing right now.
Mostly waiting for Magica Madoka.

See http://randomc.net/2010/12/25/winter-2011-preview/ for previews, trailers, summaries and airing times. Also, UTW is subbing Fractale, yay. I don't know for sure which other groups are doing what, Fansubwiki is not up to date or has no real confirmations yet.
I'm currently working through the list that was posted for me. Started watching Full Metal Panic (because I hadn't watched it yet, what a mistake). More or less exactly what I was looking for. Also watched the Macross: Do You Remember Love? movie, quite good, but you can see that they tried to put a lot of information and series background into it.
I guess I'll watch all of the FMP stuff first, then continue with the other recommended things on the list, and after I'm done with that, the winter season should start. :D
But more important things first, final episode (12) of MTLR (uncensored) has been released, so I'm off to watch it now.

All of FMP novels have been translated, so read them.

SMG vs Commu vs Bullet Butler vs FMP vs Kyoukaisenjou no Horizon (catching up to release) vs Sword Art Online (catching up to release) vs Zaregoto/Ningen

Sword Art Online > Horizon > FMP > Zaregoto/Ningen > Commu > Bullet Butler > SMG.
Look I am even giving you an excuse to stay away from SMG.
Oh can you toss up Horizon and SAO if you have them up to date? Too lazy to look.
|
lol I thought you said you didn't find his (SAO/AW) stuff that good? >_> Or was that before you read SAO.
|
That was more a list for you, I have yet to grab SAO. I didn't think much of AW, but SAO is highly acclaimed in comparison to AW's average reviews.
And Horizon is pretty damn attractive after reading AHEAD series.
|
To be honest I'm prolly gonna go Commu -> BB -> Propeller spree (Evelio?), I'm holding off on LNs because I tend to prefer reading them physically, and I'm stocking up money for a giant buying spree <_<

Curse the Sumire arc on TWGOK. Now I have a constant want for ramen

If you haven't read the Count of Monte Cristo I would recommend Gankutsuou, it is a solid adaption IMO but not everyone that has read the book likes it.
Monster is probably the anime I've seen that reminds me the most of Death Note (edit: I haven't seen Code Geass yet), relatively old characters too for an anime.
Then I would also recommend Serial experiments Lain, the protagonist is a schoolgirl but there is none of the typical moe/aegyo. You should only avoid it if you can't stand a slow paced series.

Yeah, Macross: DYRL's only downside is that is crams so much into the movie. Takes 30~ some episodes worth of drama and crams it into 2~ hours. Funny thing though is that within the Macross universe, DYRL is actually a itself a movie, showing the events of the Space War with a slightly different turn towards the end of it (so its a movie about an in-macross-universe-movie based on events in the anime lol). But the animation of the movie was very well done, especially the Max and Milia battle. I had already seen the original Macross series via Robotech as a kid, so the compression of movie events didn't really bother me as much.
