However the monogatari series is massively popular and incredibly successful as far as anime goes and also what i'd consider mainstream considering its popularity and how widespread it is. Would you consider SAO niche too? What about SnK? Genuinely curious about what your criteria for niche is, because you seem to imply mainstream appeal makes something not-niche? Also do you mean niche in the west or niche in japan? Because certain shows are bigger in the west than they are in japan and vice versa, or do you mean in both places? Also dating sims are far from niche in japan, they're pretty big as far as the anime community goes. | ||

"Dating sims" as you choose to call them are just a subset of romance-related shows, I think it is very picky to just pull them out of the general genre and refer to them as a niche because you believe they happen to include certain elements. By the way neither of them are really based on dating sims and especially the adaptations remove most of those few elements that exist so I don't really understand why you choose to call them that. | ||

Favourites NNB first, then closely by Himouto/Gate/Shirayuki. Even though nothing really happens in Shirayuki, it gives me such warm feelings watching it for some reason. | ||
