Anime often seems to centralize their focus on characters more so than other mediums and the easiest way to build character backstory is through flashbacks. I agree that the characters personalities should shed light on their past and be the driving force of their actions in the main plot line instead of flashbacks. Sometimes flashbacks can be good, but you are right, some Animes have the obligatory 1-2 episodes flashback for each character showing their backstory and it is rather lazy. | ||

Unlike boats though, the game itself doesn't seem to be all that good and it's just about reading text/story according to people? So if you can't read it, really not all that much point in playing.
