I'd assume it's the first but if that's not the case just go ahead and tell us otherwise Anyways, have you tried watching Fate stuff? Most people were gushing about Fate/UBW that finished airing last season. It doesn't really matter but I'd prefer if every episode of at least 1 season is out so I can marathon it whenever I want. I wanted to watch the Fate stuff some time ago but it just seem a mess to try and figure out what to watch first etc.
You can go a head and watch the FSN Unlimited Blade Works anime that recently finished up. Then you can either wait for the FSN Heavens Feel movie(s) or go straight to Fate/Zero series if you are impatient. Of course the best would be to probably read the FSN VN then watch Fate/Zero. You can pretty much ignore the old Fate Stay Night stuff by Deen,

It's the only really big, easy to watch thing that comes to mind for me atm. It's just plain action, good at that and it looks nice. If you want to be a hipster go try out Bakemonogatari. Everyone in here besides Sent loves it but it's a bit weird.

So you watch Fate/Zero S1&2 and then move on to Fate/Stay/Night or what's the correct order? I'm not really interested in reading anything

Fate Stay Night should be watched before Fate/Zero for the correct order. That is what was intended but it doesn't matter as much for some people.

Hmm ok I just read quickly on wikipedia and it says the Fate/Zero is the prequel but I guess they pulled a Star Wars? Shit this is so confusing lol. I think I'll give Fate Stay Night a try first or what's this Unlimited Blade Works you talked about earlier? Edit: Ok fuck it Im doing blade works 1&2 > Fate/Stay > Fate/Zero. If I fucked up I fucked up. Thanks for the help

Fate/Stay Night is the original work, and then Fate/Zero was made afterwards, to basically elaborate on its backstory.
FSN was originally a Visual Novel, with 3 different 'routes'/story paths to it. The original anime was one story route, and that anime sucked. Unlimited Blade Works anime is another story route, and the upcoming Heaven's Feel movie(s?) is yet another. So basically, you aren't missing anything by skipping the original anime and watching UBW first. In fact, just anime-wise, that's probably the ideal way to do it.

It's really not confusing at all.
FSN came out first. It has 3 routes because it's a Visual Novel. It got really popular. So it got a shit-ton of spinoffs and other related media, and one of which was a prequel.
Star Wars is just a dumb anomaly that started at 4 and pretended that there would be a prequel that would be relevant.

Toad Ill be straight up: I wanna drop Shimoneta. Last ep was just unbearable.
If you still wanna keep watching it then thats fine, we've seen worst anyways (apartment anime). But Im very open to the idea of watching something else, anything else really.

Fate fag here. VN -> Zero -> Hollow Ataraxia is the only way to go. UBW Prequel was well done, but the series itself is only above DEEN due to the better quality animation. Its the Oblivion Recorder of Fate. Plus, even if you decide to go anime only, HF is 1 movie at the very least, and it'll be a long time before subs are out, as subbers will need the BR/DVD release first
TL;DR:
2006 - Very shit
2010 - Very very shit
2014 Episode 0 - Excellent
2014/2015 - Shit
More info: Zero is written after Stay Night to expand upon the events of the 4th war. It drop a lot of spoilers for Heaven's Feel early into the series as backstory, so watching it first isn't optimal. Heaven's Feel is best experienced if you have Fate (the route) under your belt, as they're meant to mirror and contrast each other.
|
? Both Fate/Zero and UBW are miles ahead of DEEN. UBW at least stayed pretty true to the route, the DEEN shit added a bunch of random ass anime only shit. UBW was done well.
I wonder if they would ever do HA, though I am not a fan of it myself.
|
UBW fucked up characterisation + inner thoughts pretty hard, and for a character orientated series that's awful. Same problem as Oblivion Recorder (ehem Miura), it favored fanservice scenes and SoL over important plot points. For example, the Caster fight, with the entire let me go schtick, a single monologue of: would've been fine, but instead it made him seems like a spoilt brat. Later on, it failed to show him jumping back to avoid the fatal wound, showing instead that Archer missed, possibly intentionally
|
It captured the spirit of the route rather well and what you are pointing out seems to be details. They pretty much nailed how everyone in UBW route was so getting some minor points different don't matter imo because the essence was captured. Adaptations aren't meant to be fully 1:1 (not that it is possible to do when switching mediums).
Whatever faults of UBW adaptation, it is still WAY better then DEEN so calling it barely better is pretty disingenuous.
|
Ye, but these thing are easily implementable, they're small but contributes greatly to the overall characterisation of Shirou (the entire point of the VN), and most importantly, it was cut while there was fanservice and SoL left in. Adapting Shirou successfully is the bare minimum for a Fate/Stay Night adaptation and UBW and DEEN both failed at that. DEEN made Shirou useless. UBW made Shirou a complete idiot by dropping most of his thoughts.
Even the sideplot (RinxShirou) is borked.
